Join the ServerPursuant to Article 87 of the Alice Code, I hereby pronounce judgment: Moxin Bruen and Ryurik Serna are guilty of colluding with foreign powers, violating feudal contracts, and plotting rebellion. For these crimes, they are sentenced to death.”
Lucia clutched a heavy codex to her chest as she solemnly announced to the onlookers, while Miko held an umbrella for her.
Serving as a temporary judge, she knew nothing of courtroom proceedings, but her enthusiasm had successfully swayed Chloe.
Besides, compared to Una, who had experience as an interrogator, or Alice, who had once been a real judge, the people of Aflos were more familiar with Lucia.
She stood at the very center of the makeshift court, receiving the eager gazes of the crowd below.
Calling it a court was generous; it was really just an open space. People had brought wooden chairs and arranged them in a circle. Two lordly seats were placed, and with Lucia standing there, it became a court.
Yet the people’s enthusiasm was not dampened by the court’s simplicity, for this was the first time they had witnessed such a spectacle.
The lords who usually towered above them were now reduced to lowly prisoners, treated just like poachers and bandits.
Bruen and Ryurik stood shoulder to shoulder, clad in black-and-white prison garb, their faces etched with terror.
If they dared to look up, they would see two nooses hanging above their heads.
People chattered and laughed about the lords’ sordid deeds. They cared little for the words spilling from Lucia’s mouth, focusing only on the impending deaths of the two lords.
Chloe sighed. She sincerely hoped this trial would set a legal precedent in her domain.
She wore a particularly eye-catching dress today, with a V-shaped back that revealed her fair skin and a hem cut so short that her shapely thighs seemed about to burst forth.
Many had forgotten the execution, their eyes firmly fixed on this dazzlingly beautiful lord.
This was Anna’s strongly recommended outfit, supposedly exuding an aura of nobility. Damn it, she should have known better than to trust that woman’s nonsense.
And unless it was her imagination, her chest seemed to have grown again, the fabric stretched tight, her cleavage slightly exposed.
Xina, by contrast, was quite reserved. She wore a knee-length blue dress and even had light makeup—applied by Lucia. Leaning back in her chair, she appeared elegant and beautiful.
Chloe was momentarily captivated.
Then Xina yawned, closed her eyes, and fell fast asleep, instantly shattering the beautiful illusion.
Chloe coughed awkwardly and turned her gaze forward.
Anna and Anjie sat in the front row, watching Chloe intently.
Una and Constantine focused all their attention on the trial proceedings; they shared a strange obsession with this.
Wuxu glanced around alertly, as if searching for suspicious individuals.
The executioner had already placed the nooses around the necks of Ryurik and Bruen. Bruen trembled all over, his face deathly pale. Ryurik wore a mournful expression, devoid of his usual arrogance.
Lucia turned to Chloe, requesting permission for the final step.
Chloe nodded, and Lucia signaled the executioner to pull the lever. With the sound of ropes tightening, two more souls were dispatched to report to the gods.
Chloe felt nothing in particular. They had paid for their crimes, that was all.
She hoped this would soothe the spirits of Xili Village.
Next came a long, tedious series of trials for the knights and soldiers involved in the rebellion. The heaviest sentence among them was ten years of hard labor in the wastelands.
The audience, uninterested in scenes lacking visual impact, picked up their stools and left. Within tens of minutes, only a handful remained.
This mundane trial lasted from noon until evening.
Chloe rubbed her eyes sleepily, the blood-red sunset filtering through her fingers into her vision.
Huh? Had she fallen asleep too?
She massaged her shoulders, feeling a dull ache throughout her body.
Xina and Anna walked past her, chatting and laughing, signaling that the trial was finally over.
Just as Chloe tried to stand, a hand reached out in front of her.
“Thank you.”
Chloe grasped the hand and used it to pull herself up, the pain of prolonged sitting now evident in her buttocks.
Sitting in such chairs was murder on the rear; she should have Lucia procure new lordly seats.
Looking up, Chloe saw that the person before her was Alice.
Because of what had happened earlier, Chloe hadn’t met Alice’s gaze in a long time. Though she had been looking for opportunities to reconnect, Alice had deliberately avoided her.
Now she was finally willing to speak!
As Chloe was still organizing her words, Alice was the first to ask, “Why call it the Alice Code?”
“Because you compiled it,” Chloe answered matter-of-factly.
“No, these were all summarized by Julius Caesar. I merely extracted the contents from my mind.”
Her younger sister had always wanted to study law; perhaps this fulfilled her wish as well.
“Let me ask you a question. What kind of person is my sister…?”
Alice blinked, pondered for a moment, then hesitantly replied, “She is strong and reliable, loving me like a mother.”
“In my eyes, she was actually just a fragile, clingy little girl.”
In Chloe’s memory, whenever her sister encountered difficulties, she would run to Chloe for help. She was a cute little sister who would cry in her brother’s arms.
Alice was quite shocked. She frowned and asked doubtfully, “Is that so?”
“Well, everyone has two sides.”
Chloe was no exception.
On one hand, she wanted to maintain her current daily life, to live peacefully with Alice and Xina.
But on the other hand, she was prepared to destroy the entire world. To save her sister, she wouldn’t mind turning the world upside down.
She could not accept her sister’s death. That was not the future she wanted.
If she had to trample every corner of this world to bring her sister back, she would do so.
“Let’s go home for dinner!”
Xina waved to Chloe, the sunset just behind her, casting a long, slender shadow.
“Lucia said she’s making your favorite steak.”
“I like steak too… Hey, let go of Una!”
Una pushed away Anna, who had sneaked up behind her, wearing a look of disgust.
“I’m exhausted.”
Anjie tried to collapse onto Constantine’s shoulder, but Constantine dodged nimbly. Anjie then lunged toward Wuxu.
“Don’t come near me. If you’re tired, go sleep in bed.”
“But I want to sleep in master’s bed~”
Anjie looked at Chloe, licked her lower lip, and made a slurping sound.
“Don’t get any ideas about Chloe.” Alice shook her fist, annoyed.
Chloe brushed her side hair aside and saw everyone looking at her.
She let out a sigh, burying the memories of Xia Ni deep in her heart.
Until she fulfilled the mission of the Chosen One, let her live as Chloe.
—Together with everyone.
