Chapter 88: A Hero’s Debut and a Master’s Revelation

Meng Yingxing stood firm in front of the girl, the Ting Tian Sword pointing diagonally, fearlessly blocking the three white-robed figures.

“All three are Lesser Star-Grade scum; you’re more than enough to handle them,” Xiu Qingcheng reminded Meng Yingxing in his mind.

Although Xiu Qingcheng had said that when she first met Meng Yingxing, his strength at the Upper Star-Gazing Grade for his age was truly weak, with very few people being that low.

However, many people, after passing this stage of cultivation, would hit a bottleneck and never improve for the rest of their lives, just like these three white-robed figures in front of them, who were older than Meng Yingxing but weaker in cultivation.

In the spiritual cultivation world, they basically had no place to stand, and perhaps working for the rich and powerful was their most suitable fate.

‘Who exactly are these three working for?’

The girl behind Meng Yingxing was probably truly desperate. Seeing someone willing to help, she immediately reached out from behind and frantically clutched Meng Yingxing’s arm.

“Young hero! Young hero, please help me! These people have been chasing me all the way, and I really can’t shake them off!”

“Miss, calm down. Please let go first.”

Upon hearing this, the girl quickly released Meng Yingxing’s arm.

“Who are you? I advise you to mind your own business!”

The white-robed man eyed Meng Yingxing warily, then said coldly, “If you can pretend you saw nothing, we can let you live. Otherwise, don’t blame us for being impolite!”

Hearing this, Xiu Qingcheng sneered.

‘These white-robed figures are quite good at bluffing, but they haven’t even considered the strength of her disciple compared to their own.’

‘Is this gap something they can even contend with?’

“Tianfeng Sect disciple Meng Qingcheng. What are your intentions, chasing a weak woman in broad daylight?”

Meng Yingxing swung the Ting Tian Sword, pointing its tip at the three in front of him.

“Why are you still using the name Meng Qingcheng! Can’t you change it?!” Xiu Qingcheng suddenly found the name very strange and strongly demanded Meng Yingxing change his alias.

“I think it’s very good, Master,” Meng Yingxing innocently rebuffed Xiu Qingcheng’s opinion.

“It sounds good, I like it, I’ll use it, and I’ll use it often!”

“Tianfeng Sect!?”

The white-robed men visibly tensed when they heard Meng Yingxing was from that renowned spiritual cultivation sect.

The three of them completely lost their earlier arrogance. They exchanged glances, seemingly hesitant to fight.

“What’s there to fear about the Tianfeng Sect! Just a mere Middle Star-Grade! We three have the advantage! Drag the girl over here!”

The leader of the white-robed men finally overcame his inner hesitation, gritting his teeth, he swung his sword and gave the command.

As his voice fell, the three men’s blades emerged from their white robes, and they attacked Meng Yingxing in a sharp, triangular formation.

“Although they’re all pretty weak, there are three of them after all, so be careful,” Xiu Qingcheng reminded him.

Though she had great confidence in her disciple’s strength, it was still necessary to remind him when appropriate.

Meng Yingxing twirled his sword, then charged forward to meet the three.

The Killing Sword, which had never formally faced an enemy, appeared in the world for the first time in Meng Yingxing’s hands.

Chop, obliterate, eradicate, slay—this set of sword moves ruthlessly pressed the three, and in an instant, a chilling gleam of blood appeared.

Meng Yingxing had expected to need a lot of strength to repel them, but he didn’t realize these three were not as strong as he had imagined. He even wondered if the three opponents combined were as strong as a single strand of his Master’s hair.

Accompanied by cries of agony, the three stumbled out of Meng Yingxing’s attack range, all bearing injuries of varying degrees.

“These three have the same sword techniques; they must be practicing the same sword cultivation method,” Xiu Qingcheng mentioned her discovery during the battle.

Since the three of them were no match for Meng Yingxing, the leader of the white-robed men, clutching his wound, gritted his teeth and gave the most correct order.

“Go!”

The three white-robed men had come swiftly and fled just as quickly, like receding tide water.

“Hmph! Trying to escape?”

Adhering to the principle of killing them all, Xiu Qingcheng still wanted to command Meng Yingxing to pursue, but Meng Yingxing stopped in place, showing no intention of chasing.

Meng Yingxing had no desire to actively take human lives unless they actively came crashing onto his sword.

Xiu Qingcheng, learning Meng Yingxing’s thoughts, pouted and casually said, “A group of rabble, indeed there’s no need to waste extra effort.”

The girl, who had been protected by Meng Yingxing, saw her pursuers flee and immediately pounced on her savior.

“Little benefactor! Thank you so much for your help! If it weren’t for you, I’m afraid I would have…”

Meng Yingxing saw her rushing towards him with tear-filled eyes and quickly shifted his body to dodge.

He merely disliked her; he was simply unaccustomed to such contact.

“It’s nothing. Upholding justice and helping others is one of the Tianfeng Sect’s tenets.”

Hearing this, Xiu Qingcheng first stuck out her tongue inwardly.

‘It was clearly she who told Meng Yingxing to do it, wasn’t it?!’

The girl whimpered, then finally got a clear look at the young man before her.

The young man had immortal bones, as handsome as if born of heaven.

She had lived for nearly twenty years and had never seen such a handsome youth.

“Little benefactor truly has excellent skills; as expected of a Tianfeng Sect disciple, a hero emerges in youth.”

Hearing this, Xiu Qingcheng inwardly fumed again.

‘Again with the Tianfeng Sect! Meng Yingxing is her disciple, and she taught him, alright?! How come all the praise is being snatched by the ‘Grand Master’?!’

“Miss, you flatter me. My master taught me well.”

Meng Yingxing habitually bowed to the girl before him, then praised his master.

Hearing this, Xiu Qingcheng’s heart immediately felt much better.

‘Good, good, good, she loves to hear this. Her good disciple knows how to respect his master!’

“Miss, why were those three chasing you?”

Meng Yingxing had rescued the girl, and he felt he should at least know the reason why those three were pursuing her.

At the mention of this, the girl shivered, as if reliving an unpleasant memory.

“I don’t know either.”

“My name is Zhou Yue’er. Two days ago, I passed through Yezhi Town, preparing to return to my hometown, Anyuan City. But I never expected that as soon as I left Yezhi Town, those three started chasing me.”

“At first, I gave them money, and they took it, but they still kept chasing me. They probably wanted my life.”

“I don’t know how I offended them.”

After listening, Meng Yingxing seemed to be deep in thought.

“Master, what do you think?”

“Me? I’m watching with my eyes inside your scabbard. Cough, it seems it’s still the old cliché of snatching a maiden. Those three are probably subordinates kept by some powerful local magnate.”

“The magnate accidentally took a fancy to this Zhou Yue’er, and just had his people snatch her.” Xiu Qingcheng had already reached a conclusion.

In Jintian Kyushu, although there were laws and regulations among the common people, and a set of standards in the spiritual cultivation world, such incidents were still commonplace.

Meng Yingxing thought about it, and it seemed this was the only explanation.

Afterwards, Meng Yingxing instructed Zhou Yue’er to leave quickly and hide as far away as possible.

“Little benefactor… could you escort me home? After I get home, I will definitely offer generous compensation.”

Perhaps still feeling somewhat insecure, Zhou Yue’er tugged at Meng Yingxing’s sleeve, pleading with him in a pitiful voice.

The ship’s horn, signaling its imminent departure, sounded in the air.

Meng Yingxing shook his head at Zhou Yue’er.

“Apologies, Miss, I have a mission to attend to and cannot accompany you. Keep this money for the boat fare.”

Meng Yingxing righteously took some money and placed it in Zhou Yue’er’s hand, while Xiu Qingcheng cried out loudly in Meng Yingxing’s head.

‘He saved the person and still gave her money?!’

‘Disciple, you’re so… I’m crying to death!’

Under Zhou Yue’er’s reluctant gaze, Meng Yingxing returned to the boat.

“Young hero, excellent skills.”

When Meng Yingxing boarded the boat, the boatman who had chatted with him earlier immediately came over, looking at him with great curiosity.

“I saw you just swinging this sword around, and those people were defeated?”

“They retreated! Truly impressive.”

“So what exactly happened with those people? Young hero, tell us about it?”

Although these ordinary people didn’t dare to go up and rescue anyone, they still wanted to know the gossip.

Meng Yingxing simply told him the whole story.

“Yezhi, ah, it’s right next to Zhongyang Town, where you’re headed. To have run this far, that girl truly has admirable perseverance,” the boatman exclaimed after hearing the gossip, then asked, “Where’s your female companion? Why didn’t she come back with you?”

Meng Yingxing glanced at the hilt of his sword behind him.

Just now, Xiu Qingcheng had been in her sword form, carried by Meng Yingxing behind him.

‘Female companion?’

Meng Yingxing chewed on the word, and after a while, he fabricated an excuse, “She’s watching the scenery over there. I’m going to find her.”

The boatman nodded with a smile, letting Meng Yingxing pass.

Finding an unseen corner, Xiu Qingcheng appeared with a ‘pop.’

“I just thought carefully, these three white-robed figures, could they be related to the matter we’re investigating?”

Xiu Qingcheng re-donned the veil that couldn’t be retracted in her sword form; she had put the veil in Meng Yingxing’s pocket earlier.

“It should just be a coincidence.” Meng Yingxing shook his head.

“If these disappearances were really that obvious, perhaps we wouldn’t need to investigate them. Moreover, those white-robed figures aren’t the monsters the Xu family mentioned.”

“True.”

Xiu Qingcheng nodded, then the topic changed abruptly.

“So, did you like the girl just now?”

“She’s quite pretty and delicate; would you consider getting to know her better?”

“It’s a pity we really have a mission, otherwise I’d really want you to escort her home.”

Xiu Qingcheng was truly heartbroken over her disciple’s pathetic luck with women. If her actions were in her previous life, her good buddies would all call her ‘Godfather’!

“Master!”

Meng Yingxing called out, somewhat urgently.

“I already said I have no such intentions!”

“So, what about her don’t you like?”

“Her heart.”

“She’s not as beautiful as Master,” Meng Yingxing suddenly said honestly, his face flushing, his gaze drifting elsewhere.

‘If he said that, would it be disrespectful to the immortal master?’

Xiu Qingcheng was stunned. She touched her face, which could bring ruin to nations.

‘Wait a minute, could it be that the biggest obstacle to Meng Yingxing’s luck with women… was actually herself?!’
