Chapter 70: The Defeated Maiden Won’t Meet the Sword Immortal Chu

The demonic cultivator leader roared in pain, his hood falling to reveal a rotting face. The Wanfa Immortal Sect female cultivator shuddered, her pupils sharpening.

Her weapon—a string of eighteen ancient coins linked by golden thread, with a delicate sliding track—was exquisite. Urging her spiritual energy, it glowed gold as she charged, clashing with multiple demonic cultivators.

Remarkably, she held her own!

In contrast, the late Foundation Establishment cultivator behind her, her junior brother, faltered. While the lead demonic cultivator was Golden Core, the others were Foundation Establishment—manageable for him.

“Senior Sister, I’ll help!” he shouted, but cowered, too scared to advance. He merely tossed talismans, using spiritual energy to lob them at the enemies.

An explosive talisman detonated near a demonic cultivator, its scorching blast affecting nearby civilians. One aimed at the Golden Core cultivator was caught in a demonic qi shield and hurled back.

Hiss—

The junior brother dodged with a spell, the talisman exploding harmlessly behind him where no one stood. Otherwise, it could’ve killed Qi Refining cultivators.

The female cultivator, fighting fiercely, glanced back with a frown.
“Junior Brother Xu, don’t waste talismans.”

He muttered, scratching his head awkwardly.
“Got it, Senior Sister. Leave your back to me!”

“What’s going on here?”

Watching from the woods, Chu Huaizhou found it bizarre, like a game cutscene. What a cliché duo. Were they about to be defeated by demons, setting up the hero’s rescue?

The female cultivator seemed familiar, but he couldn’t place her.

Xia Baiqian, clinging to his arm, explained sweetly,
“Probably Wanfa Immortal Sect cultivators on a mission, unaware it involves Youming Sect demons. Wanfa’s in the Giant Spirit Dynasty, and that young cultivator’s mid-Golden Core—quite the talent.”

Chu stroked her head, noting her talisman-sword fusion matched his knowledge, but the sliding track on her coin sword was new. Talismans shot from the hilt through the track—something absent 300 years ago or in his game.

Maybe added in a later patch.

If this girl alone could defeat the Youming Sect cultivators and save the caravan, they’d move on. The Nine Nether Lands were vast; there’d be other chances to tail demonic cultivators or steal their tokens for infiltration.

But as they turned to leave, the cowering merchant—Zhao Degui—silently approached the Wanfa female cultivator.

Sensing him, she spoke calmly without turning,
“President Zhao, don’t worry. I can handle this. It’s dangerous—step back to avoid the fight’s fallout…”

Her words cut off with a sharp, anguished scream.

“Yaaah—!”

Zhao Degui, revealing late Golden Core cultivation, unleashed a chilling, ink-thick demonic qi from his palm, striking her. Her black-and-white Wanfa robe dimmed, blasted as if by a heavy blow. She flew back like a broken kite, blood spraying in a stark red arc under the sunlight.

Chu Huaizhou: ??? Another expert?

The junior brother gaped, shouting,
“Senior Sister Cheng!”

Zhao Degui’s late Golden Core aura flooded like a tidal wave, suffocating him. Helpless, he glanced at the unconscious female cultivator, then pulled a red-patterned talisman from his sleeve.

Activating it, a blinding white light enveloped him, the air twisting with spatial ripples—a rare teleportation talisman.

As it glowed, Zhao Degui sneered,
“Young friend, since fate brought us here, why leave? Stay as our Youming Sect’s guest.”

With a casual wave, a foul, ink-thick toxic mist spread, enveloping the junior brother. The talisman’s light dimmed, struggling like it was mired in mud, then flickered out. The spatial ripples stilled, as if smoothed by an invisible hand.

“No! Impossible!”

Desperate to save himself and his senior sister, he hurled glowing talismans—fireballs, jade ice, wind blades—to dispel the mist.

“You’re done for!”

As firelight scattered, Zhao Degui frowned, annoyed, and waved his sleeve again. The toxic mist came alive, forming a tough black veil around the junior brother.

The talismans’ blasts were contained, shielding the civilians.

“Damn fool!” Zhao Degui snapped coldly.
“These are my hard-won guests. If you harm even one, you’ll ruin my plans!”

Running low on talismans to no avail, the junior brother collapsed, tears streaming, voice trembling.

“Please, spare me! I swear I won’t tell anyone! She’s a true disciple—her master’s Transformation-stage! If she dies, Wanfa will scour this place, and your Youming Sect is finished!

Let me go! I’ll say she died to a demon beast—Wanfa won’t investigate!”

Zhao Degui’s expression didn’t shift. With another wave, the junior brother’s eyes rolled back, and he fainted.

Brushing his sleeve, he scoffed,
“Since when does the Youming Sect care about the righteous sects’ faces? Don’t they tremble at our name?”

Watching from the sidelines, Chu Huaizhou: …
