Chapter 40: The Rose Squad

The attack on Tantan City ended in the Bloodkin’s defeat.

Even at this very moment, the scattered Bloodkin were still constantly fleeing the pursuit of the Humanoid Weapon Research Society.

The three Bloodkin who had been squatting outside the convenience store eating ice cream retreated from the campus immediately, and were chased by the Research Society’s subsequent forces, nearly losing their lives.

Aibrune, too, after being shot in the head by Su Xiaoxiao, though not dead, was somewhat dazed and blurry-eyed, staggering away in another direction.

As if by coincidence, the four-person Bloodkin squad eventually reassembled in a dark alleyway.

“Captain! What are you doing, Captain!”

“So you’re still alive. I thought you’d been caught by the Humanoid Weapon Research Society’s forces and were finished.”

The three members of the Bloodkin squad seemed not to be worried about Aibrune, their captain, at all. One of them, after reaching a safe location, even began regretting the ice cream he had lost halfway through his escape.

“Hey! Are you guys serious? I was shot in the head by someone, and you all act like it’s none of your business?!”

Aibrune clutched his blood-stained head, wincing in pain, slowly sliding down the wall to sit on the ground.

“Captain, why are you speaking so rudely, Captain! You’re a noble from the upper echelons, a graduate of Alpha Academy.”

“How did the Humanoid Weapon Research Society not catch you? How did you escape?”

“Ah, I thought I could become captain.”

‘Hey! You three bastards, that’s enough!’

Aibrune felt like he was going to collapse.

He had just been beaten to a pulp, and now his teammates were infuriating him to death. If he weren’t so dizzy, he would definitely draw his sword and fight these fair-weather friends.

“That shot was really vicious. Good thing it wasn’t an Exterminator bullet, otherwise my life would probably have ended there.”

Aibrune held his head, looking severely injured, but in reality, his wounds had already healed.

‘Hehehe… how interesting.’

‘Not only did I meet that Humanoid Weapon named Tina, but there were actually other Bloodkin present in this city. No mistake, that heterochromatic-eyed girl who shot me in the head was definitely a Bloodkin.’

‘And… was it power granted by Evran?’

‘That aura was too familiar, so familiar that he didn’t need any identification to recognize it; it must be Evran’s familiar.’

Aibrune lowered his eyes, a slight smile curving his lips.

“Are you blind, you damn fool, you just noticed now?!” Aibrune snapped out of his thoughts and continued to passionately bicker with his teammates.

“To be injured by a human, I thought you’d get away completely unscathed.”

“Who do you take me for? Even a Bloodkin like Auston was killed; it’s good enough that I managed to escape.”

“Sigh, why didn’t she kill him?”

“Damn it!” Aibrune couldn’t take it anymore. Even with his head spinning, he wanted to stand up and fight them. The three team members quickly laughed, helping their captain up, then pushing him back down.

What made it even more unbearable for him was this.

His handsome, dashing golden hair, tall stature, dignified demeanor, and elegant speech—that steel-plated loli hadn’t been moved by him at all! It was simply inhumane!

Oh, well, she wasn’t human to begin with—it was simply un-mechanical!

“Just kidding, don’t mind it.”

“Can your head be repaired? It looks quite seriously injured. You can block even sniper rifle bullets, so how did you fail to protect your head? That’s a critical vital spot; you might have lost your life.”

Aibrune sighed, lit a void-cigar in his hand, took a deep breath of air, and slowly exhaled non-existent smoke rings, beginning to recount his story.

“It was a slightly noisy morning, and I met a loli I fancied. The moment I saw her, I knew I had fallen in love with her. My heart would forever belong to her—”

Aibrune gazed deeply at the sky, his eyes like profound lakes, ripples slowly spreading across their surface.

The team members’ faces instantly darkened with annoyance, and they urged him impatiently:

“Get to the point!”

“Oh, well, I didn’t manage to get the girl I fancied, and I got beaten into an idiot by another bad loli.”

Suddenly, the three squad members all froze at the same time, then exclaimed in unison:
