Join the ServerWhen Little Night arrived at the central commercial district, the surrounding crowds had already been evacuated by temporarily deployed police maintaining order. In their place stood numerous Exterminators clad in black-green military uniforms, standing guard at the scene.
The people of Tantan City were still unaware of the Exterminators’ existence. Even if they occasionally caught a glimpse, they simply assumed they were some kind of special operations unit and knew nothing of the stories behind them.
But incidents serious enough to require government special forces were always highly unusual. Ordinary citizens could only suppress their curiosity and refrain from speculating too much.
As she entered the vicinity of the central commercial district, that familiar Other Beast aura registered in her mind once again.
Little Night leaped lightly, descending from the sky and landing softly on the ground.
Seeing someone in casual blue shorts and a jacket enter the evacuated zone, the surrounding civilians—who had no idea who “Butterfly Night” the Exterminator was—exchanged glances and fixed their gazes on her from a distance.
“Is that the new S-rank Exterminator? She looks really young—like a student?”
“Thin arms and legs, pretty fair skin… kind of looks like a girl, doesn’t she? Is she really S-rank?”
“What’s that thing on her back? It’s bigger than she is.”
She tugged her cap lower. Though she heard the distant murmurs, she paid them no mind. She seemed long accustomed to others’ evaluations of her.
She walked straight forward and asked:
“Has any abnormal situation occurred at the site? Any movement from the Bloodkin enemies?”
The Exterminators froze for a moment. Then they glanced at the rank insignia hanging on Little Night’s chest and immediately realized—this was the S-rank Exterminator newly assigned to Tantan City, as previously notified by higher-ups.
They snapped to attention in respect.
“Yes, ma’am. No abnormalities at the scene so far. A large number of flyers rained down from the sky earlier—likely the enemy’s declaration of war.”
The Other Beast aura was still present.
The previous squad had already scouted underground and discovered something utterly unbelievable.
“What is it?”
“We originally thought the aura came from a large number of Other Beasts scattered throughout the area, so we kept expanding our perception range across the entire zone. But based on the survey results… it may not be a group at all.”
Little Night swept her gaze around.
The Other Beast aura enveloped everything—seeping into every crevice, leaving no gaps.
If a swarm truly existed, the count would easily reach into the hundreds.
The squad had placed markers in various locations. When connected, the marked points formed a certain outline on the map.
Someone speculated that it might not be a group after all—but a single, enormous individual Other Beast.
“An individual? Covering such a wide area?”
“Yes. Judging by the scale, it qualifies as a colossal-grade Other Beast.”
Colossal-grade Other Beasts represented the highest danger level in Other Beast classification.
Participation required at least A-rank personnel, plus a formal request for S-rank Exterminator support.
Their height typically reached that of a thirty-story building. Should one appear in the heart of a human city, the resulting destruction would be catastrophic.
In other words—right now, directly beneath the central area of Tantan City, buried deep underground, lurked one colossal-grade Other Beast.
Little Night’s eyes sharpened.
If that was truly the case, the severity far exceeded their initial assumptions.
Before Sheffield was slain, for some unknown purpose, he had buried such an enormous Other Beast beneath the ground.
And coincidentally, the declaration flyers from the Round-Dance Theater Legion had appeared in exactly the same location.
There had to be some connection between the two.
It possessed a power unimaginable to ordinary people.
But there was still one extremely strange detail.
Although it was a colossal Other Beast, it showed no movement whatsoever. The aura it emitted didn’t feel like…
How to describe it? It was more like an empty husk—one whose Exterminator aura had not yet been fully eradicated.
“You mean… what’s buried underground is actually just a corpse?”
“Yes.”
Little Night stared down at the ground beneath her feet. Standing alone in thought, she immediately issued orders:
“Notify the Research Society at once—prepare to open Imaginary Space at any moment. If any abnormal aura fluctuations are detected, do not hesitate.”
“Understood. What about the flyers that fell from the sky earlier, ma’am? How should we handle them?”
“From now until sunset, I will remain here the entire time. Prepare for the worst. Issue simultaneous reinforcement requests to both the Exterminator forces and the Research Society in advance.”
Little Night appeared highly experienced in combat—decisive and resolute.
Yet deep in her heart lay considerable unease.
Underground lay the corpse of a colossal Other Beast, and the enemy’s intentions remained unknown.
Soon, powerful enemies would descend from the sky—and it was uncertain whether the Orderly Exterminator barrier could hold back that Bloodkin queen.
“The dead cannot be revived… the dead should not be revived… The same applies to Other Beasts. It’s nothing more than a cold corpse now, just a skeleton. It shouldn’t be capable of anything… Maintain strict surveillance.”
“But we still need to think carefully about how to deal with the Round-Dance Theater Legion’s Bloodkin. How many enemies will come?”
“For a very long time, it’s been said that Queen Dolores and the S-rank Exterminator Flash Spirit were archenemies fated to clash at every turn. They fought countless times, yet neither ever managed to claim victory over the other.”
“Victory” here meant killing the opponent—a life-or-death duel that decided everything.
With Flash Spirit’s strength, he could suppress Dolores, but he never succeeded in killing her.
Dolores, too, repeatedly used her special abilities to put Flash Spirit in humiliating positions, yet she could never deliver a fatal blow.
Their battles were always deadlocked—growing more furious with each encounter. Whenever they met, they would inevitably wage full-scale war with great fanfare.
As for what exactly happened on those battlefields to breed such deep hatred between them—no one knew.
To the point that, afterward, whenever someone mentioned Queen Dolores in Flash Spirit’s presence, he would sullenly go eat takoyaki.
On the Bloodkin side, the usually haughty Queen Dolores would fly into a rage at the mere mention of Flash Spirit—stomping on her nearby guards in fury.
Unfortunately, Flash Spirit perished in the Other Side War.
If he were still here, facing a situation like this… what approach would he take?
Little Night lifted her head somewhat wistfully, gazing at the faintly darkened sky.
Flash Spirit was the figure she aspired to—the back she must strive to chase.
There would surely be a way to handle the Round-Dance Theater Legion.
Right now, this city needed her to protect it.
Meanwhile, a certain someone—continuously admired and idolized by his junior—was still at school, getting along harmoniously with his cute classmate, completely unaware that any incident had occurred.
