Chapter 31: The Succubus’s Delectable Scheme

Succubi are fascinating creatures. Their method of converting magical energy is quite unique. As Lilith had mentioned before, they delight in witnessing convoluted emotional struggles.

They invariably draw delicious magical energy from these emotional outbursts, even going so far as to call it “spiritual sustenance.”

In essence, they are gleeful spectators who revel in twisted emotions.

Such emotions are, of course, absent among demons, who traditionally prioritize pure power over sentiment. This is precisely why succubi have migrated en masse to human society.

Humans, once sated, inevitably turn their minds to romance, creating unpredictable emotional entanglements that are, to succubi, a divine delicacy.

Even now, Lilith was savoring the awkwardness churning within Wade’s heart.

Taking a husband’s surname, being called “wife,” living together, sharing meals and beds—these are all perfectly normal for an average couple. Most families in the world operate this way.

Lilith wouldn’t have been interested if it were just an ordinary household. The crucial point was this: it was the White Knight.

Knights are an intriguing profession. They consistently perceive themselves as noble and sacred, distinct from ordinary mortals who succumb to worldly desires. This sense of exceptionalism seems deeply ingrained, perhaps influenced by human literature.

Standing at the pinnacle of knighthood, the White Knight, in particular, must consider himself even more unique. Unlike the “workers” who become knights merely for livelihood, he, who battles the Demon King, ought to feel far more “holy” than common folk.

Therefore, a man such as he should never be swayed by a woman.

Even less should such a man be beguiled by a demon.

How could such a man—possibly harbor feelings for his arch-nemesis, the Demon King?

Yet, it is precisely these kinds of emotions that are most delectable to a succubus.

With just a single mischievous tease, Lilith found it utterly delicious to watch his embarrassment and discomfiture, as if his innermost thoughts had been laid bare.

This could also be considered an operation for her, a Great Succubus under the Demon King’s command, to probe Wade’s true feelings.

‘White Knight,’ indeed. When faced with an intriguing member of the opposite s*x, he was quick to develop feelings.

‘But isn’t that what makes it even tastier? To struggle within, unwilling to accept, constantly telling oneself this path is wrong, yet ultimately surrendering as so-called emotions drag one into the abyss.

‘To soothe a restless heart with kisses or embraces, to mask inner unease with even more fervent passion—that’s where the true delight lies!’

‘Oh, how appetizing… Just imagining the White Knight finally shedding his armor and wearily seeking the Demon King’s solace, Lilith felt as though half a year’s worth of magical energy would be replenished.’

This, however, was merely the beginning. Softening a stubborn man like the White Knight would surely take some time.

As for the Demon King…

‘Hmph, of course, I wish the Demon King happiness too.😋’

“…”

Seeing Lilith flash another mischievous grin, Kaze instantly knew she hadn’t come for anything serious. He didn’t mind, though; merely glimpsing the Demon King in a state of relative calm was enough.

“Here is freshly brewed tea and newly made pastries. Please, make yourselves comfortable.”

Wade frowned slightly at Lilith’s smile. From just those two simple sentences, he could discern that this woman was far from simple. Her words, specifically directed at him, were deliberately chosen.

As expected, then… If they were Lamia’s relatives, they had to be demons.

And certainly not actual family, but rather a familial relationship fabricated by other demons.

[Lilith and… Kaze? They actually came. I don’t recall summoning them.]

“…”

As Wade pondered the true identities of these two demons, Kaze’s name was unfamiliar to him. However, the name “Lilith” echoing in Lamia’s thoughts startled him.

‘Lilith? The Great Succubus she constantly grumbled about in her mind, the one always hatching terrible ideas?’

‘Ha! I knew she wasn’t a proper demon! All this current mess is because of that wicked woman!’

“Alright… alright, thank you, Mr. Nairt. Um… I’m Senia, and this is Ragnar. We’re your next-door neighbors, in the house right there…”

Taking the tea offered by a servant, Senia introduced herself first. Following the old Pope’s instructions, she referred to herself and her “husband” beside her.

As apprentice knights, both were still young, appearing to be in their early twenties. Although adults, they shouldn’t have been so nervous undertaking such a mission.

However, the sudden appearance of another man and woman—Kaze and Lilith—made Senia and Ragnar feel immense pressure. Even without revealing their demonic energy, their mere presence and gazes were enough to unnerve the two apprentice knights.

‘They are absolutely not ordinary people!’

‘If they are Mrs. Nairt’s relatives, then Mrs. Nairt… is she also someone very special…?!’

“Welcome, both of you. It’s good news that the old house next to ours has finally sold. If you ever need help, please don’t hesitate to come over.

“Even if I’m not home, you can speak with my butler or the servants; they will assist you as much as they can. We’ll certainly be seeing a lot of each other in the future, so please bear with us.”

“Ah—ah, yes, thank you, Mr. Nairt!”

The others around her made her feel immense pressure, but thankfully, Wade appeared to be a normal person. His warm, gentle smile instantly put Senia at ease.

Ragnar, her junior beside her, also nodded along. He, too, seemed to have realized that Wade was the most approachable among them.

‘As expected of someone close to the Grand Commander…!’

[Your Highness, how have you been these past two days? Are you comfortable here?]

Kaze did not speak aloud. Instead, while Wade was occupied greeting the two humans, he communicated with Lamia using their mental link.

This was a common method of communication among demons, akin to a private “group chat.” Both Lamia and Lilith could hear Kaze’s voice.

[Hmm, it’s alright.]

Wade, however, couldn’t hear Kaze’s voice. He could only hear Lamia’s through his mind-reading ability. Her sudden, laconic reply of “it’s alright” caught him off guard.

Yet, he showed no outward reaction. He merely continued chatting with the two new neighbors while keeping a close eye on Lamia’s movements.

‘Is she planning to exchange information with those other two demons?’

‘Ha, I knew it. The Demon King is definitely here to act as a spy.’

‘Perfect. This is my chance. Let me hear what you’ve figured out in the past day and a half, and I’ll discover your primary objective.’

[So~ Demon King, what have you been up to since arriving here? I’m quite curious what living with humans is like~]

Lilith also joined the mental conversation. Unlike the serious Kaze, her tone sounded much livelier.

[Hmm… what have I been up to…]

‘…As expected, they’ve started exchanging information.’

Wade took a deep breath, waiting for Lamia to disclose everything she had done during this time.

[They’re all trivial matters. I’ve only been in contact for a day and a half, and I haven’t managed to weaken him yet. His strength is considerable. That armor of his must be for concealing his identity and enhancing his defense. Even in human form, he still possesses some combat ability. Last night, he attacked me with three sword strikes outside, and this morning, he even gave me an over-the-shoulder throw. He truly has solid combat skills.]

‘—😨…?’

‘Wait, what segment is this?’

‘Is this the “complaining to the family” segment?!’

‘Besides, wasn’t that an accident? You were the one who put your hand on my shoulder!’

[Oh…? He dared to do such things to Your Highness, that fellow…😠]

Wade suddenly broke into a cold sweat. He felt Kaze’s furious gaze and had an ominous premonition that the brown-haired man was about to do something to him.

And… was it his imagination? He could almost hear sparks crackling beside the man’s hair. Was Kaze perhaps a demon who had cultivated from a candle?

‘Please, don’t start a fight here, there are still ordinary people around…!’
