“—What do you think? I’ve learned how to embroider handkerchiefs, Wade!”
After a day of tireless work, Wade returned to the sanctuary of his home.
Of course, he went home; where else would he go?
He was not the kind of man who enjoyed spending his evenings carousing after work.
His newlywed wife was waiting for him at home, so he naturally returned to her without delay.
“A handkerchief?”
As he stepped through the front door, Lamia had already rushed to his side, clutching the handkerchief she had just finished making.
“Yes.”
It wasn’t precisely ‘just finished’; it had actually been ready that afternoon. However, she had held onto it, brimming with excitement, eager to present it to Wade upon his return.
Wade had grown accustomed to this routine. Each day, upon arriving home, he was greeted not by respectful, deferential servants, but by the lively, effervescent Lamia.
Her boundless energy infused the entire mansion with a vibrant, cheerful atmosphere.
“Yes, you mentioned needlework last time, didn’t you? So I learned this. The maids taught me. Take a look, what do you think?”
“Oh? Then I must have a good look.”
Wade smiled, accepting the handkerchief, and his gaze fell upon the embroidered pattern.
It was a blue iris, or more precisely, the emblem of the Knight Order.
This was likely a suggestion from one of the maids. Given that he was a knight, an iris was indeed a most fitting gift.
As for the color…
Since the Knight Order was affiliated with the royal family, their emblem typically used gold. However, Lamia had paid no mind to such conventions, choosing instead her preferred shade of blue—or rather, the very color of Wade’s eyes.
“This is remarkable. This is far beyond a beginner’s skill.”
Though Wade understood little of embroidery, this handkerchief felt significantly more refined than the one Lamia had given him previously.
In the past, the handkerchief she’d given him had merely featured his name, embroidered simply, almost like a casual doodle.
This one, however, was a meticulously crafted piece of art.
“Really? You like it that much?”
Lamia leaned closer, her long, golden hair, carrying a sweet fragrance, cascaded like water across Wade’s chest. She looked up at him, her sapphire-blue eyes wide with anticipation and a hint of nervousness.
Wade said nothing, only lowered his head and kissed her lips.
His kiss was tender, like a gentle spring breeze or soft rain, yet the profound affection it held made Lamia tremble. She embraced Wade tightly, softly returning his kiss.
After their kiss, Lamia’s face flushed a deep crimson, like a ripe apple. She buried her face in Wade’s embrace and whispered,
“Wade, I love you.”
Wade gently stroked her golden hair and murmured into her ear,
“I love you too, Lamia.”
“Wade, should we… should we try again tonight… to conceive an heir for the Royal Palace?”
Lamia asked, gathering her courage.
Wade paused, then held Lamia even tighter.
“Yes.”
He nodded.
****
The crescent moon hung like a hook, casting its silvery glow across the land.
Night had fallen deep, yet the Royal Palace was far from silent.
On the contrary, the inner chambers of the palace were brilliantly lit.
In the King’s study, as always, the lamps burned bright.
Wade sat at his desk, a report laid out before him.
This report came from the palace’s spies, conveying a critical piece of intelligence.
“Trouble at the border?”
Wade frowned deeply.
The northern border had always been a volatile region.
A fierce people known as ‘Barbarians’ resided there.
These Barbarians were savage and warlike, frequently raiding border villages, plundering wealth, and leaving a trail of destruction.
In the past, despite their ferocity, the Barbarians had never posed a significant threat to the Royal Palace.
After all, they were merely scattered warriors, lacking unified leadership or advanced weaponry.
However, this report indicated a change: the Barbarians had seemingly found a new leader who had united all their tribes.
Furthermore, he had trained a formidable army and, from some unknown source, acquired advanced weaponry.
“This is not good news.”
Wade’s brows furrowed. If the Barbarians had truly unified, it would undoubtedly present a grave threat to the Royal Palace.
“I must go to the border and see for myself.”
Wade made his decision. He could not allow the Barbarians to jeopardize the safety of the Royal Palace.
“Your Majesty, it is late. You should rest.”
The voice of a maid drifted from outside the door.
“I understand.”
Wade gathered the report and left the study.
“Your Majesty, the Queen is still waiting for you.”
The maid informed him.
Wade nodded and returned to the royal bedchamber.
Inside, Lamia was already asleep.
She lay peacefully on the bed, like a sleeping beauty.
Wade quietly lay beside her and drew her into his embrace.
“Good night, my love.”
Wade kissed Lamia’s forehead, then closed his eyes.
****
The next morning, Wade awoke early.
He kissed Lamia’s forehead, then dressed, preparing to leave the bedchamber.
“Where are you going?”
Lamia awoke and asked, looking at Wade.
“I’m going to the border. There’s been a problem there.”
Wade replied.
“I’ll come with you.”
Lamia immediately declared.
“No, the border is dangerous. You cannot come.”
Wade refused.
“Why can’t I go? I am your wife. I should face danger with you.”
Lamia insisted stubbornly.
“Please listen, Lamia. The border is truly perilous, and I cannot allow you to be exposed to such risk.”
Wade said softly.
“But…”
Lamia started to protest further, but Wade interrupted her.
“There are no ‘buts.’ Wait for me to return home.”
Wade stated firmly.
Lamia looked at Wade, and finally, she nodded.
“Alright, but you must be careful.”
Lamia conceded.
“I will.”
Wade kissed Lamia’s lips, then left the bedchamber.
Wade departed from the Royal Palace and headed directly towards the border.
Border City, a city situated right on the border line.
A standing army was permanently stationed here, tasked with defending against Barbarian invasions.
When Wade arrived at Border City, the city gates were already closed.
“Open the gates.”
Wade commanded.
The soldiers on the city wall recognized Wade and immediately opened the gates.
“Greetings, Your Majesty.”
The soldiers instantly knelt in salute.
“Rise.”
Wade instructed.
“Thank you, Your Majesty.”
The soldiers replied.
Wade entered Border City and proceeded directly to the Border City’s castle.
Inside the castle, the Border City’s general was already awaiting Wade’s arrival.
“Greetings, Your Majesty.”
The general immediately knelt in salute.
“Rise, General.”
Wade said.
“Thank you, Your Majesty.”
The general replied.
“Tell me, what exactly has happened at the border?”
Wade asked directly.
The general handed Wade a report.
Wade took the report and began to read it.
The report largely corroborated the intelligence received from the palace spies.
The Barbarians had unified their tribes and trained a formidable army.
Moreover, they appeared to have acquired advanced weaponry.
“What is the name of this Barbarian leader?”
Wade inquired.
“His name is Mundo.”
The general stated.
“Mundo?”
Wade frowned.
He had never heard that name before.
“What is the background of this Mundo?”
Wade pressed.
“He was originally just an ordinary Barbarian warrior, but during a battle, he unexpectedly obtained a divine artifact.”
The general explained.
“A divine artifact?”
Wade was taken aback.
“Indeed, a divine artifact. After acquiring it, his strength surged dramatically, and he gained the recognition of the Barbarian tribes, ultimately uniting them.”
The general elaborated.
“A divine artifact… This is truly not good news.”
Wade’s brows knitted together.
If Mundo had truly obtained a divine artifact, his power would be immense.
“Where is he now?”
Wade asked.
“He is currently at the Barbarian Royal Court.”
The general replied.
“The Barbarian Royal Court?”
Wade questioned.
“Precisely, it is the center of the Barbarian tribes.”
The general confirmed.
“I understand.”
Wade nodded.
“General, immediately assemble all soldiers and prepare for an expedition.”
Wade commanded.
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
The general promptly went to gather the soldiers.
Wade walked out of the castle alone, gazing into the distance, his eyes filled with worry.
“A divine artifact… This is truly troublesome.”
Wade muttered to himself.
****
The Barbarian Royal Court, a city composed of countless tents.
This was the heart of the Barbarian tribes, and the dwelling of their leader, Mundo.
Mundo sat upon his throne, and before him knelt a group of Barbarian warriors.
“Leader, when do we attack?”
One Barbarian warrior asked.
“Not yet. The time is not right.”
Mundo replied.
“Why? We are ready.”
The Barbarian warrior asked, perplexed.
“Because we still need one more thing.”
Mundo stated.
“What thing?”
The Barbarian warrior inquired.
“Something that will guarantee our victory.”
Mundo said.
“What is that?”
The Barbarian warrior pressed.
“An item known as a ‘Holy Relic’.”
Mundo revealed.
“A Holy Relic?”
The Barbarian warriors exchanged puzzled glances.
“Precisely, a Holy Relic.”
Mundo confirmed.
“Where is this Holy Relic?”
The Barbarian warrior asked.
“In a place called the ‘Valley of Death’.”
Mundo replied.
“The Valley of Death?”
The Barbarian warriors’ faces contorted with fear.
The Valley of Death was an exceedingly perilous place.
Poisonous mist perpetually enveloped it, and it was teeming with various monstrous beasts.
No one had ever returned alive from the Valley of Death.
“Are you afraid?”
Mundo sneered, looking at the Barbarian warriors.
“No, we are not afraid.”
The Barbarian warriors immediately asserted.
“If you’re not afraid, then come with me to the Valley of Death.”
Mundo commanded.
“Yes, Leader.”
The Barbarian warriors instantly responded.
Mundo rose from his throne, gazing into the distance, his eyes blazing with ambition.
“Wade, your throne will soon be mine.”
Mundo murmured to himself.
****
The Valley of Death, a valley shrouded in poisonous mist.
Here, the toxic fog was ever-present, making it impossible for any living creature to survive.
Mundo led his Barbarian warriors into the Valley of Death.
The poisonous mist was thick, and visibility was extremely low.
Mundo walked at the forefront, a massive axe clutched in his hand.
This axe was the divine artifact he had acquired.
The artifact emitted a faint green glow, dispelling the surrounding poisonous mist.
The Barbarian warriors followed closely behind Mundo, gripping their weapons tightly, their eyes filled with vigilance.
After a long march, they finally reached the depths of the Valley of Death.
Here, a colossal altar stood.
Upon the altar rested a box.
“The Holy Relic is inside.”
Mundo declared.
He ascended the altar and opened the box.
Inside the box lay a gem radiating a blood-red light.
“This is the Holy Relic.”
Mundo announced.
He picked up the gem and embedded it into his axe.
The axe immediately began to emit an even more dazzling blood-red light.
“Hahahahaha, Wade, your death is at hand!”
Mundo roared with laughter.
He savored the immense power surging from the axe, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
“Let’s go! We attack the Royal City!”
Mundo commanded.
“Yes, Leader!”
The Barbarian warriors instantly responded.
Mundo led his Barbarian warriors out of the Valley of Death and headed directly for the Royal City.
****
At the Royal City, Wade was patrolling the city walls.
He gazed into the distance, his eyes heavy with concern.
He wondered when the Barbarians would launch their assault.
Just then, a rumbling sound echoed from afar.
Wade immediately looked towards the horizon and saw a vast, dark mass of figures approaching.
“The Barbarians are attacking!”
Wade stated gravely.
“Immediately notify all soldiers to prepare for battle!”
Wade commanded.
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
The soldiers promptly went to inform the others.
Wade stood on the city wall, watching the approaching Barbarian army, his expression grim.
The Barbarian army was vast, and their weaponry had become remarkably sophisticated.
“I never expected them to attack so quickly.”
Wade muttered to himself.
“Your Majesty, what should we do?”
A general asked.
“We have only one option: defend the Royal City to the last man.”
Wade declared.
“But, the Barbarian army’s numbers are too great. We are no match for them.”
The general countered.
“I know, but we have no other choice.”
Wade said.
Just then, the Barbarian army had reached the foot of the Royal City walls.
Mundo rode a towering warhorse, his axe glowing with blood-red light.
“Wade, come out and face your death!”
Mundo roared.
Wade stood on the city wall, looking at Mundo, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
“Mundo, do you truly believe a single divine artifact is enough to defeat me?”
Wade sneered.
“Hahahahaha, Wade, you underestimate me far too much!”
Mundo cackled wildly.
“Today, I shall show you what true power means!”
With these words, Mundo raised his axe and brought it down fiercely towards the Royal City.
A blood-red beam of light shot from the axe, striking the Royal City wall with immense force.
With a thunderous crash, a colossal裂痕 immediately appeared on the Royal City wall.
“This…”
Wade and the generals all wore expressions of shock.
Mundo’s axe possessed such terrifying power.
“Wade, are you still not going to come out and die?”
Mundo bellowed.
Wade’s face darkened considerably. He knew that if Mundo continued his assault like this, the Royal City would eventually fall.
“General, you lead the soldiers to hold the city walls. I will go out and confront him.”
Wade instructed.
“Your Majesty, that is too dangerous!”
The general immediately tried to dissuade him.
“I know, but I have no other choice.”
Wade stated.
After speaking, Wade leaped directly from the city wall.
“Wade…”
The general cried out.
Mundo saw Wade jump down and immediately showed an excited expression.
“Hahahahaha, Wade, you finally decided to come out!”
Mundo cackled wildly.
“Mundo, today I will show you who the true king is.”
Wade said coldly.
Wade drew the longsword from his waist and charged towards Mundo.
Mundo raised his axe and swung it down at Wade.
The axe and longsword clashed violently, emitting a piercing metallic shriek.
Wade was forced back a few steps, but Mundo remained completely unmoved.
“Wade, your strength is too weak.”
Mundo sneered.
“Is that so?”
Wade snorted coldly, then charged at Mundo once more.
This time, Wade’s speed was even greater.
His longsword, like a venomous serpent, struck at Mundo with cunning precision.
Mundo wielded his axe, blocking each of Wade’s attacks.
However, Wade’s attacks grew swifter and fiercer.
Mundo gradually began to feel the strain.
“Damn it!”
Mundo roared in frustration, then brought his axe down fiercely on Wade.
Wade dodged sideways, then thrust his sword towards Mundo’s chest.
Mundo hastily retreated, but he was still wounded by Wade’s blade.
Blood flowed from Mundo’s chest.
“You…”
Mundo stared at Wade, his eyes filled with shock.
He had not expected Wade’s strength to be so formidable.
“Mundo, today is your day of reckoning.”
Wade said coldly.
Wade charged at Mundo again, his longsword striking like a violent storm, relentlessly assailing Mundo.
Mundo desperately wielded his axe, struggling to parry Wade’s onslaught.
However, his injuries worsened, and he gradually felt himself weakening.
“Damn it, I will not lose!”
Mundo roared defiantly, then raised his axe and brought it down on Wade.
The axe glowed with blood-red light, hurtling towards Wade like a comet.
Wade’s face grew exceptionally grim. He sensed the immense power contained within the axe.
He knew he absolutely could not meet this blow head-on.
Wade hastily retreated, then thrust his sword fiercely at the axe’s blade.
With a sharp *crack*, a fissure immediately appeared on the axe’s blade.
“This…”
Mundo and the Barbarian warriors alike wore expressions of profound shock.
Wade had actually managed to damage a divine artifact.
“Mundo, your end has come.”
Wade said coldly.
Wade charged at Mundo once more, his longsword, like a flash of lightning, plunged towards Mundo.
Mundo attempted to block, but he was too late.
The longsword pierced directly through Mundo’s chest.
“You…”
Mundo looked at Wade, his eyes filled with bitter unwillingness.
He had never imagined he would die by Wade’s hand.
Mundo’s body crashed to the ground.
Seeing Mundo dead, the Barbarian warriors immediately showed expressions of terror.
“Mundo is dead! Flee!”
The Barbarian warriors scattered and fled in all directions.
Wade watched the fleeing Barbarian warriors but did not pursue them.
He knew that the Barbarians were no longer a threat.
Wade turned to look at the Royal City and saw Lamia on the city wall.
Lamia stood on the city wall, watching Wade, her eyes filled with worry.
Wade smiled at Lamia, then returned to the city wall.
“Wade, are you alright?”
Lamia immediately rushed over and embraced Wade.
“I’m fine.”
Wade gently patted Lamia’s back, his voice soft.
“That’s wonderful!”
Lamia breathed a sigh of relief.
“Your Majesty, we have won!”
The generals approached, exclaiming excitedly.
“Indeed, we have won.”
Wade’s face broke into a smile.
“Give the order: all soldiers are to return and rest.”
Wade commanded.
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
The generals immediately went to relay the command.
Wade returned to the Royal Palace with Lamia.
Inside the palace, Lamia clung tightly to Wade, unwilling to let go.
“Wade, you must not do such dangerous things again.”
Lamia pleaded.
“Alright, I promise you.”
Wade said softly.
“Wade, should we… should we try again tonight… to conceive an heir for the Royal Palace?”
Lamia whispered softly.
Wade paused, then held Lamia even tighter.
“Yes.”
He nodded.
The crescent moon hung like a hook, casting its silvery glow across the land.
Night had fallen deep, yet the Royal Palace was brilliantly lit.
From the inner chambers of the palace, waves of joyful laughter echoed.
****
‘So impressive? This is far beyond a beginner’s level; she’s made such incredible progress.’
Seeing the blue iris, Wade’s smile grew even softer, imbued with an unfeigned tenderness. Perhaps the wedding research he’d done earlier that day had kept him in a romantic haze, leaving Wade with a perpetually cheerful demeanor.
“So I told you, I’m a genius! No matter what it is, I can complete it perfectly.”
‘Including becoming a wife, I am a perfect wife!’
“Ha…”
Wade chuckled helplessly, folded the handkerchief, and placed it into the pocket of his knight’s uniform.
Of course, it had to be kept in his work clothes. Then, in a couple of days at work, he would make an incredibly casual display.
“Oh, how did you know my wife embroidered a handkerchief the color of my eyes? Yes, that’s right, she said she likes my eyes.”
Just thinking of such a scenario made it hard for Wade to suppress the smile playing on his lips.
Returning home and heading to the bedroom with Lamia had become the most ordinary thing.
They had both implicitly agreed that Wade’s bedroom was also Lamia’s. They slept together, and even some of her spare undergarments and pajamas were conveniently stored in Wade’s wardrobe, as were her pillows and bedding.
Wade’s room, frankly, wasn’t very large.
Because he had always slept alone, and a queen’s room felt too spacious for one person, he had chosen a relatively smaller room as his bedchamber.
But today, Lamia sat on the bed, watching Wade take off his work jacket and put on ordinary casual clothes. As she watched him rummaging for his change of clothes beside the bed, she thoughtfully rubbed her chin with her finger, looking deep in thought.
“Wade.”
“Hmm?”
Wade hadn’t finished changing; his head hadn’t yet emerged from his pullover T-shirt, making his voice sound muffled.
“Isn’t your room a bit small?”
“It’s fine, I think.”
“—Then where will the crib go?”
“…Huh?”
With a soft *plop*, Wade’s head popped out of his collar, his short golden hair a disheveled mess from the friction of the fabric, making him look slightly flustered.
“A crib, it’s a place for the baby, and there are those ones you can push, with toys and bells hanging overhead… and crawling mats, things like that?”
As Lamia spoke, she accurately mimed pushing a cradle, as if she were truly soothing a child at that very moment.
Wade glanced at Lamia, then at the parenting book on the table—she had probably found it in the reference section of the library during her idle hours that day.
He had only bought books to fill the library’s empty shelves, mostly titles that the maids and servants wanted. He had even told them they were free to use the library as long as they maintained cleanliness, proper categorization, and didn’t bring in any prohibited materials. The butler organized all these books, ensuring they were all perfectly normal.
A parenting book… of course, it was a normal book, as there were certainly young mothers working in the mansion. He just hadn’t expected… Lamia to discover it.
“The child can have their own room. It can serve as the nursery. It doesn’t necessarily have to be crammed into this room.”
‘If the child has their own room… who will look after them?’
‘I can arrange for the maids, my grandmother, and the other servants in the house. They are all good people and can take turns caring for the child.’
‘But what about the child’s parents?’
“What?”
‘The child’s parents, you and I.’
As Lamia said this, she pointed at him, then at herself.
‘We can’t always be away from the child, can we? We need to be around them often, to educate them through our words and actions. That’s how they’ll grow up healthy—right, Dad?’
Listening to Lamia’s words, Wade’s eyebrows furrowed.
It wasn’t from annoyance or impatience—there was nothing to be annoyed about with such a matter. He simply hadn’t expected… Lamia to have thought so far ahead?
And she’d even considered the matter of parental companionship? And what was this ‘Dad’ appellation?
‘Are these all things from the book too?’
Looking at her serious expression… was she truly planning to have a child with him?
A Demon Lord, using the body of a human woman, then having a child with the human man who had been her adversary for so long?
Wade was momentarily unable to process everything, which was why his eyebrows were furrowed. He was simply trying to think, to understand, to figure out what step Lamia was on.
‘No… no, she—is she serious?’
He had thought that all her previous thoughts about having children and ‘milking’ him were just half-joking ‘grand ambitions’ in her mind, expressed in an exaggerated way, but…
Not only was she planning to have a child, but she intended to raise it properly?
‘Lamia… you… do you really need to go to such lengths?’
