Chapter 91: The Ghostly Phantom and the Jingguo Shrine

Bai Mengqi moved like a phantom, weaving through the streets at a speed that made it impossible for the supernatural practitioners to pursue her immediately.

The psychics tasked with monitoring Bai Mengqi’s movements were similarly struggling to keep up.

Psychic abilities consumed energy, and Bai Mengqi, intending to mislead her hidden pursuers, deliberately avoided revealing her true destination. She led them on a circuitous chase, never approaching their actual location, making them believe she merely wanted to shake them off.

When they finally let their guard down, Bai Mengqi suddenly locked onto her true target.

She ascended into the air, then, with incredible speed, plunged into the underground base where they were hiding.

Naturally, she did not enter through the main entrance. Instead, she tore directly through the ground, much like a burrowing missile.

Only after Bai Mengqi had initiated her move did the psychics within the base finally react.

“This is bad! The target has discovered our base! Stop her immediately!”

One of the male observers instantly transmitted a warning to the other supernatural practitioners in the base.

By the time the other practitioners within the base responded, a massive hole had already been blown open in the ceiling of their stronghold. Immediately afterward, an outwardly ordinary high school girl leaped down from above.

This high school girl was, of course, Bai Mengqi in disguise.

“So, you were hiding here all along,” Bai Mengqi declared, her voice laced with murderous intent.

“You fool!” the arriving practitioners from the base roared in unison, launching their attacks at Bai Mengqi without hesitation.

However, Bai Mengqi’s true objective was not them. She transformed into a whirlwind, effortlessly scattering the practitioners who had surrounded her, then moved directly to the location of the psychics.

“Utterly clueless,” Bai Mengqi scoffed, casting a dismissive glance at the scattered practitioners before preparing to enter the psychics’ hiding place.

Inside were the three psychics and their superior.

This particular location was the Tokyo Supernatural Security Bureau, an official agency similar to Xiahua Nation’s Supernatural Bureau. The Divine Guard Unit could be considered their headquarters.

As the capital’s security bureau, Tokyo’s strongest practitioner was an A-rank individual.

Just as Bai Mengqi was about to step inside, a bolt of lightning suddenly erupted from the doorway.

The lightning surged forward like a thunder beast, lunging at Bai Mengqi.

Yet, with a casual wave of her hand, Bai Mengqi conjured a storm of spiritual energy that effortlessly dispersed the lightning.

“Xiahua National, this is the Tokyo Security Bureau of Japan. Are you attempting to disrupt relations between our two nations by openly attacking a government institution?” A middle-aged man emerged from within.

He stood firm in the doorway, blocking Bai Mengqi’s path, for those three psychics were far too crucial.

However, Bai Mengqi had no desire to argue with him.

“Get out of my way. I don’t have time for your chatter.” Bai Mengqi unleashed a palm strike, sending a torrent of spiritual energy directly into the man. The A-rank practitioner immediately vomited blood.

Yet, this powerful blow did not force him to retreat.

He clung desperately to the doorframe, refusing to fall, or rather, refusing to let Bai Mengqi enter the room. He gazed at her with an expression of resolute defiance, as if prepared for the worst.

Seeing that he would not yield, Bai Mengqi approached him with an intensified murderous aura, ready to deliver an even more devastating strike.

“Do you truly wish to die so badly?” Bai Mengqi questioned as she advanced.

The A-rank practitioner, still spitting blood, struggled to respond, “I fight for the safety of my nation; my death would be meaningful. This is my duty. Xiahua National practitioner, you are perfectly capable of leaving Japan, so why do you not? Why do you come to disrupt the peace of our country?”

Hearing his impassioned questioning, Bai Mengqi fell silent for a moment.

“Do you even know what I intend to do?”

“I do not need to know. This is Japan, not your Xiahua Nation. Even if there are matters at hand, as a practitioner from another country, you have no right to interfere,” the A-rank practitioner replied with unwavering conviction.

Bai Mengqi found herself speechless in the face of such reasoning. However, some principles could only be discussed with one’s own countrymen; attempting to reason with a hostile foreign practitioner was naturally futile.

With a casual flick of her hand, the A-rank practitioner was sent flying backward, slamming into the wall. He could not get up; even clinging to the doorframe could not change the outcome.

The disparity between their strengths was simply too vast.

Nevertheless, Bai Mengqi did not deliver a killing blow. Their conflict stemmed from differing allegiances, not personal enmity.

Moreover, this particular action had nothing to do with the Xiahua Nation; it was purely Bai Mengqi’s personal initiative.

“Don’t kill them. They are merely following orders; they have done nothing wrong,” the A-rank practitioner pleaded again as Bai Mengqi entered.

Psychics were invaluable assets, especially those skilled in monitoring enemies. Such individuals were even rarer.

No number of ordinary practitioners could compare to the worth of a psychic with significant abilities.

Bai Mengqi ignored him, walking instead to the door of a nearby sealed room.

With a single palm strike, she effortlessly blasted open the bolted door and stepped inside.

As Bai Mengqi entered, three individuals were inside, their faces contorted with fear as they looked at her.

Logically, Bai Mengqi should have eliminated them, as their continued existence would certainly be detrimental to the Xiahua Nation.

Who knew if the two nations would clash again in the future? Supernatural practitioners would be the first to engage, making the abilities of these three a significant threat.

However, Bai Mengqi was currently acting as an individual, and the two nations were not at war. After a prolonged moment of contemplation, Bai Mengqi merely stirred her divine sense, causing all three to immediately fall unconscious.

They would remain in a stupor for at least a day, preventing them from reporting Bai Mengqi’s actions.

Having accomplished her task, Bai Mengqi exited the room. Before leaving, she addressed the A-rank practitioner.

“What I am doing is my personal endeavor, unrelated to the Xiahua Nation you speak of.”

With those words, Bai Mengqi vanished in a flash.

Subsequently, the practitioners in Tokyo completely lost track of Bai Mengqi.

Bai Mengqi immediately sought out a safe location to recover her strength.

Only after Bai Mengqi had departed did the base’s practitioners assess the situation. Upon confirming that their precious assets had not been killed, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

These three individuals were vital members of the Tokyo Security Bureau. If they had all been killed, the loss would have been immense.

Due to this incident, the Cabinet was already in an uproar.

A group of men in suits sat within a solemn conference room.

With so many events unfolding in Tokyo, they could not remain indifferent. Moreover, the Emperor’s palace had been attacked not long ago.

The sheer volume of incidents during this period was overwhelming, and none of them were minor matters.

“Nomura-kun, did you deploy the military to attack that unknown practitioner? What exactly do you intend? Do you wish to draw the military into the conflict between practitioners?” one elder sternly reprimanded.

Nomura, the middle-aged man in question, immediately responded.

“Do you understand what that practitioner is trying to do? They are undermining Japan’s national destiny! They have already destroyed all the other arrays, leaving only the Jingguo Shrine. If we do not stop their continued actions, the consequences will be unimaginable!”

However, his statement was immediately criticized by another individual.

“Nonsense! Our nation’s destiny long ago emerged from the shadow of that war. The Jingguo Shrine no longer needs to exist. Neighboring countries have consistently voiced their objections. As long as we close the shrine and cease our worship, that powerful practitioner will surely leave Japan.”

The men bickered, each blaming the other.

Finally, the man seated at the head of the table roared, silencing their argument.

“Silence, all of you! Do you only care about your own interests? Perhaps it is better for you to leave Japan. According to the information I have received, this person is likely the female practitioner who caused such chaos on Mount Fuji. She is an S-rank practitioner. If she hadn’t been unwilling to kill innocents indiscriminately, Tokyo would have long become a battlefield. Do you still dare to confront her so aggressively? Or has someone authorized the Security Bureau to act?” the Prime Minister demanded.

At these words, the entire room fell silent. All other issues were negotiable, but authorizing the Security Bureau to confront Bai Mengqi was an action the Prime Minister could not accept.

After all, the Security Bureau was an official government agency. Allowing a government body to directly intervene would give the opponent a reason to attack government institutions.

Seeing that no one admitted responsibility, the Prime Minister sighed in frustration.

“Fine, heed my orders. Halt all operations. This cannot continue.”

Thus, the operation targeting Bai Mengqi was forcibly brought to a halt.

Such was the terrifying power of an S-rank practitioner. Unless both sides were willing to fight without restraint, the government had no choice but to compromise.

In truth, they had already sought assistance from the Four Great Clans behind them.

However, while the Shinobi Clan outright refused, the other three clans only agreed to mobilize practitioners from the Japanese supernatural world to assist, with no intention of directly intervening themselves.

If S-rank practitioners from those families had arrived, Bai Mengqi might indeed have found herself in serious trouble.

Many of them had already ascertained Bai Mengqi’s objective: to destroy the Jingguo Shrine.

The shrine was protected by Japan’s most powerful practitioners, so there would ordinarily be no issues. If even Abe Haruha could not protect it, then the arrival of others would be meaningless.

Soon, the sky gradually darkened, and night descended.

Abe Haruha sat within the pavilion where the divine statue resided, his eyes closed in contemplation. Suddenly, however, he seemed to sense something and slowly opened his eyes.

“It seems the one destroying the sub-arrays has a special helper after all,” the divine statue spoke again.

Abe Haruha immediately questioned, “Not just that woman?”

“Hmph! The other party has consistently interfered with our neighbor, that legendary Miko. It appears they intend to use the power of this Xiahua National practitioner against us,” the divine statue replied.

Deprived of their five Yin Gathering Points, the malevolent spirits had indeed become quieter, their aura significantly weakened.
