Chapter 116: The Japanese Crisis and the Looming Threat

It was around seven in the evening at the new home of Bai Mengqi and Zi Yanran.

After the New Year two years prior, the two had moved into this new residence, leaving their old neighborhood behind.

There was no other choice. Bai Mengqi’s true identity still remained largely undisclosed, and an unfamiliar environment was essential for her to maintain her true appearance without constantly having to switch genders.

Another reason was to manage their family. Since Bai Mengqi and Zi Yanran returned home three years ago for her cousin Fang Qi’s wedding, a steady stream of relatives had been dropping by. This was especially true for those residing in Jiangcheng, where many of Bai Mengqi’s friends and family worked, and most of them were aware of Bai Mengqi and Zi Yanran’s relationship.

They sought out Bai Mengqi for all sorts of matters, creating an endless string of problems, but Zi Yanran generally handled everything that could be resolved.

Zi Yanran had purchased a villa, situated about a dozen miles from her parents’ home, offering a tranquil and secluded environment.

Looking at Zi Yanran now, despite her age this year, she still appeared to be merely fifteen or sixteen. This was a direct benefit of her dual cultivation with Bai Mengqi and her independent practice.

Upon her return this time, she wrinkled her nose playfully before entering with a bright smile.

“Oh, so you’re willing to cook tonight?” Zi Yanran exclaimed as she stepped inside, finding Bai Mengqi and their two children seated at the dining table, watching her. The table itself was laden with a lavish dinner, clearly the work of a professional chef.

However, raising children meant that not knowing how to cook was simply not an option. Thus, Bai Mengqi had diligently taught herself culinary skills. Given her exceptional learning ability, mastering cooking was naturally effortless for her.

“I had no choice,” Bai Mengqi chuckled. “These two little rascals insisted I do it myself, so I made just one meal. Go wash your hands.”

Zi Yanran immediately set down her bag, walked into the bathroom, washed her hands, and returned.

As soon as she sat down, she posed a question.

“The Ability Bureau personnel, they came looking for you today, didn’t they?” Zi Yanran inquired.

Bai Mengqi remained unperturbed, knowing that with an aunt working at the Jiangcheng Ability Bureau, she would certainly receive advance notice of such matters.

“Yes, the Director-General personally called,” Bai Mengqi replied. “They want me to lead a team to Japan to bring back our citizens trapped there. I also need to investigate the situation on the ground while I’m there.”

Yet, Zi Yanran harbored a degree of concern.

“Japan won’t give you trouble, will they? After all, you caused quite a stir there three years ago.”

Bai Mengqi let out a light laugh.

“They can barely protect themselves; how could they bother with something from three years ago? Besides, I wasn’t using my true appearance then, nor did I leave them any evidence.”

Zi Yanran sighed softly, choosing not to press the issue any further.

She smiled at Ziyi and Zixuan.

“Don’t just sit there stunned; eat! Your father hasn’t caused much trouble these past three years, but this trip might stir up another big commotion.”

Ziyi and Zixuan were certainly well aware of Bai Mengqi’s capabilities.

Though they appeared to be only eight or nine years old, their cultivation had endowed them with a maturity beyond their peers.

“Go, Dad! Stir up an even bigger commotion this time! We support you!” Zixuan grinned mischievously at Bai Mengqi.

Bai Mengqi shot Zixuan a look.

“Eat your dinner.”

Zi Yanran felt quite reassured about Bai Mengqi’s current abilities. With Bai Mengqi’s power, unless she encountered multiple S-rank cultivators besieging her, she was practically invincible.

Moreover, the so-called virus, or rather the spreading abnormal energy in Japan, might be deadly to others, but for Bai Mengqi, it held only benefits, no harm.

“Just be careful, that’s all I’ll say,” Zi Yanran added, reiterating her concern.

The two did not dwell on the matter.

“However, Zi Yanran, you should also make some preparations in advance. According to Director Mu, I have a bad feeling. I sense that this abnormal energy-infectious virus has probably already entered our country’s territory. I even feel that the world is about to descend into chaos because of this virus.”

Jokes aside, Bai Mengqi felt it necessary to discuss serious matters.

Upon hearing this, Zi Yanran glanced at Bai Mengqi. Seeing the worry in Bai Mengqi’s eyes, she roughly surmised her thoughts.

“Prepare in advance? Are you telling me to prepare for a disaster? Could it really escalate to that point?”

Bai Mengqi shook her head.

“Who knows? But when a sealed place like Mount Fuji, a natural sealing ground, has one of its seals broken, I can’t shake the feeling that it might lead to instability in other sealed areas.”

Bai Mengqi’s worries were genuine. Not long after the seal in Japan was opened, abnormal fluctuations began to appear in various sealed locations, including True Martial Mountain.

It seemed a powerful force was attempting to break free from within.

At this moment, Pure Yang True Person of True Martial Mountain sat cross-legged before the裂缝, continuously using his power to suppress the trembling spatial rift.

If Bai Mengqi were present, she would notice a tiny crack appearing on what was once an impregnable seal.

“Alas! This is not good. I never imagined the seal in Japan would collapse prematurely. Does this mean the era of the ‘Heaven-Earth Separation’ is coming to an end? Judging by this development, I fear the sealed lands will be unsealed one by one.”

Pure Yang True Person’s face was etched with sorrow.

It wasn’t just True Martial Mountain; the seals of other Ability organizations in the Summer Kingdom that had built their sects on sealed lands also experienced problems simultaneously.

The following afternoon, in a room at Jiangcheng International Airport.

Bai Mengqi stood quietly, dressed in a white women’s suit.

Shortly after, the door opened, and a group of young men and women, dressed in various styles, entered, led by Su Ruosha.

Upon entering, they immediately greeted Bai Mengqi respectfully.

“Master, we’ve arrived.”

Without waiting for the newcomers to reply, Bai Mengqi sternly addressed the eighteen disciples who had arrived, including some journalists.

“Mengqi, everyone is here. Besides these Ability Bureau members, everyone else is also at your disposal,” Su Ruoxi stated with a serious expression.

Bai Mengqi nodded at Su Ruoxi, then turned her gaze to the assembled group.

“You should all be mentally prepared. This mission is to venture into the world of ability users. If anyone is unwilling to embark on this dangerous journey with me, you can speak up now. I won’t force you.”

Bai Mengqi could not guarantee the safety of this trip to Japan, as the country was currently in great turmoil.

“Master, we are not cowards. Given such a major event, as disciples of an ancient clan, it is our duty to set an example,” Yao Zi quickly declared.

As soon as she voiced her stance, the others also expressed their determination.

“In that case, let’s go.”

With these words, Bai Mengqi led them onto a special plane bound for Japan.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the situation was dire. Cities had completely ceased to function.

The Japanese government had urged its citizens to remain indoors and avoid venturing out, warning them to be wary of people suddenly succumbing to madness.

Throughout the city’s streets and alleys, numerous ability users were battling mutated creatures, beings that had transformed due to excessively high spiritual energy.

Even the weakest of these mutated creatures possessed the combat strength of an E-rank ability user.

Furthermore, if an ability user mutated, their combat power would only be higher.

These mutated individuals attacked all non-mutated beings.

Initially, the Japanese authorities hesitated to kill these creatures directly, but they were later forced to use lethal force. These mutated humans were truly devoid of reason; if not killed, they would kill others and continuously infect more, causing the number of mutated creatures to endlessly multiply.

The Japanese government, along with liaison officers from various countries stationed in Japan, were currently aboard warships. Many military vessels, including those from the Summer Kingdom, were anchored in Tokyo Bay.

The warships were packed with people, all citizens of various nations, yet they could only remain docked in Tokyo Bay, hesitant to bring anyone back.

They were unsure whether any of these individuals were infected, having discovered that some infections manifested very slowly, correlating with the amount of abnormal energy absorbed.

Beyond those on the warships, many more people were trapped in secure shelters and various buildings across Japan.

At this time, the embassy phones on the Summer Kingdom’s warship were ringing off the hook, with a constant stream of distress calls from Summer Kingdom citizens.

However, at present, no country knew how to conduct a rescue. The abnormal energy infection was far more terrifying than they had imagined.

Ability users dispatched into Tokyo were immediately attacked by numerous mutated creatures and then fell silent, indicating they had perished.

It was practically impossible for Japan’s ability users alone to quell this incident.

At this moment, on an aircraft carrier, ambassadors from various nations were confronting the Japanese government.

“What exactly have you done? Even in this state, you still won’t tell the truth?”

“Could you be secretly conducting some unspeakable experiments?” an ambassador from a certain country demanded.

The Japanese officials sent to appease the ambassadors were at a loss for words.

They desperately needed the help of other nations, yet they dared not reveal the full truth.

The Summer Kingdom’s ambassador remained calm, as the Summer Kingdom had long been aware of Japan’s situation. The other nations were mostly European countries and those from other continents.

“Ambassador, perhaps it’s best to explain this issue after the incident has subsided. Telling you now would be meaningless, wouldn’t it?” a Japanese foreign affairs official said helplessly.

As dusk approached, a Summer Kingdom military aircraft suddenly landed on the Summer Kingdom’s aircraft carrier.

Immediately after, Bai Mengqi and her group disembarked.

As soon as she descended, military officers and Ability Bureau personnel, who had been waiting there, immediately came forward to greet her.

“Miss Bai, you’ve finally arrived,” a middle-aged ability user stepped forward, saluting.

Su Ruoxi promptly introduced the man. He was Song Ming, the Director of the Ability Bureau’s Operations Department, dispatched from headquarters specifically to assist the military.

“Mengqi, this is Director Song, Song Ming, from headquarters. He’s in charge of this mission in Japan.”

Bai Mengqi nodded to him.

“Director Song, hello. Let’s skip the pleasantries. What’s the situation like?” Bai Mengqi asked.

Song Ming motioned for Bai Mengqi to follow him.

They entered the aircraft carrier and proceeded to the command center, which was filled with liaison officers constantly on the phone.

“The situation in Japan is not optimistic. The infection is spreading too rapidly. Many of our Summer Kingdom citizens are trapped across Japan. Besides a portion of tourists, at least a million more Chinese nationals are stranded,” Song Ming reported.

Bai Mengqi’s expression shifted after hearing this.

“That many? I alone cannot rescue all of them.”

Song Ming offered a bitter smile.

“We know. This isn’t something that can be resolved by human effort. The most pressing issue we need to address now is whether you can identify if the Summer Kingdom citizens currently on the warship have been infected by the abnormal energy.”

Indeed, this was the most urgent matter to resolve.

“Let me see.”

Bai Mengqi immediately closed her eyes, releasing her divine sense to envelop the entire aircraft carrier, scrutinizing the Summer Kingdom citizens who had been rescued aboard.

Firstly, ordinary people could not possess spiritual energy fluctuations; such fluctuations only existed within cultivators.

Upon inspection, it was quite surprising. Bai Mengqi discovered that many people harbored spiritual energy fluctuations, a peculiar kind that was in a state of violent flux.
