Chapter 14: A Cat’s Dilemma and a Ticklish Secret

In the room next door.

Sheng Lin lay on the bed, his eyes red-rimmed, cradling the white cat.

Qin Ce was sprawled beside them, occasionally stroking the cat and then ruffling Sheng Lin’s hair, letting out a soft chuckle.

The moment the door opened, the two boys and the cat all turned to look at the newcomer.

Zhou Jinzhu walked to the bedside, sat down, and gently patted Sheng Lin’s head. “Are you still upset?”

Sheng Lin turned his head away, his voice muffled. “Dad is just too much!”

“Where did you get this cat?”

“I found it. It likes me and wants to stay with me. I want to keep it, but Dad… he’s just too much!”

“Your dad is afraid of cats.”

“That’s a lie,”

Sheng Lin’s eyes widened as he looked at him. “How could Dad, such a big person, be afraid of cats?”

Zhou Jinzhu chuckled softly. “What animal is Xiao Lin most afraid of?”

“Snakes.”

“Well, a snake is so small, and Xiao Lin is such a big person, so how can you still be afraid of snakes?”

Sheng Lin blinked. “But I’m a child; Dad is an adult.”

Zhou Jinzhu replied, “Cats are bigger than snakes, though.”

Sheng Lin pondered, “It seems… they are.”

Qin Ce rolled his eyes. “Why make it so complicated? Everyone has something they’re afraid of. What does that have to do with size? Our math teacher even climbed onto the podium last time because a cockroach scared him.”

Sheng Lin’s thoughts trailed off. ‘I remember that.’

He worriedly stroked the white cat.

The white cat rubbed against him, letting out a soft, “Meow~”

“What about the cat, then? It doesn’t seem to have an owner. If we abandon it, it’ll die, won’t it?”

Zhou Jinzhu suggested, “Let’s keep it in Xiao Ce’s room. You can come visit whenever you miss it.”

Qin Ce’s eyes widened. “???”

Sheng Lin tilted his head. “Ce Ce~”

“Fine!”

Zhou Jinzhu smiled. “Then, Xiao Lin, will you stop being angry with your dad? He didn’t mean to be harsh earlier.”

“Okay~”

As Zhou Jinzhu stepped out, he met Ji Xiao, giving him a knowing look that indicated the matter was resolved, before heading to the kitchen.

Ji Xiao sat on the sofa, pulling out a lighter to ignite the cigarette dangling from his lips. He lowered his head, lost in thought.

Black Cat offered a friendly reminder. “Smoking is harmful to your healt—”

Ji Xiao interrupted, “If I smoke too much, will I die?”

“Not exactly… it just affects your lifespan…”

“You weren’t so concerned about me in the last world.”

“…I take it back.”

‘In the last world, we weren’t close, and he was addicted to smoking. How could I dare to advise him?’ Black Cat thought, feeling wronged.

Ji Xiao leaned back on the sofa, legs crossed. “Why are you so quiet all of a sudden?”

Black Cat asked, “Do you have any ideas for this world’s mission?”

“No.”

“…” ‘How incredibly straightforward.’

Zhou Jinzhu prepared a table full of delicious dishes.

Ji Xiao ate with a look of contentment.

After dinner, Ji Xiao went to wash the dishes.

Sheng Lin stood by the kitchen doorway, peeking his head in, his eyes wide and expectant. “Dad, I’m sorry.”

Ji Xiao quickly finished washing the dishes, wiped his hands, and turned to look at him.

Sheng Lin slowly walked over and hugged his leg, looking up. His eyes, so similar to Ji Xiao’s, were glistening.

“I didn’t know you were afraid of cats, Dad. I’m sorry I scared you.”

Ji Xiao knelt down and hugged him. “It’s okay. Dad should apologize too. I shouldn’t have been so harsh earlier.”

Sheng Lin wrapped his arms around Ji Xiao’s head. “I’ll keep it at Ce Ce’s place and come visit it often, but I won’t bring it home, okay?”

“Okay.”

Ji Xiao effortlessly scooped him up and began to walk out.

Qin Ce waved at him. “Xiao Lin, come down quickly! Let’s go do our homework.”

“Okay~”

Sheng Lin patted Ji Xiao’s shoulder. “Dad, put me down.”

Ji Xiao complied, setting him on the floor.

Sheng Lin declared, “I’m going back to get my homework.”

He scurried back to retrieve his homework, then dashed back, and together with Qin Ce, they darted into the room.

Zhou Jinzhu watched his nephew close the door, a soft smile gracing his lips. “They get along quite well.”

Ji Xiao reached out, pulled him into his embrace, and kissed his forehead. “Can their bond compare to ours?”

Zhou Jinzhu pushed against him, whispering, “Stop messing around. They might come out any moment.”

Ji Xiao pressed him onto the sofa, gently nipping at his lips. “Homework won’t be finished that quickly.”

“Xiao Ge!”

“Be good.”

‘Be good, my ass!’

Zhou Jinzhu jabbed his index finger sharply into Ji Xiao’s waist.

“Ugh—”

Ji Xiao let out a muffled groan, jolting upright from the sofa, his face dark. “Zhou Jinzhu!”

The original body was ticklish.

Ji Xiao was also ticklish.

Being poked in the waist was absolutely unbearable.
