Join the ServerJi Xiao: “I know.”
Mo Lin set down the knife, producing a crisp clatter against the countertop.
He turned around, his eyes dark and gloomy as he stared at Ji Xiao. “Finding a boyfriend who looks so much like me, who are you trying to sicken?”
Black Cat: “[Answer carefully. He’s on the phone with Zhou Jinzhu.]”
Ji Xiao: “…”
Ji Xiao met his gaze, stating earnestly, “A-Zhu doesn’t resemble you.”
Mo Lin: “Is that so?”
“Mo Lin, I’m with A-Zhu, but it’s not because of you. It’s for the mission.”
Mo Lin fell silent for a moment, then asked, “Then why won’t you let me go?”
“Just consider this place your rented apartment. I can stop bothering you, but you have to live well, alright?”
“Is there any point to this?”
Mo Lin’s face was pale.
“Since you have a boyfriend, can’t you just live your life well? Why do you insist on holding onto me?”
“Mo Lin,” Ji Xiao pressed a hand to his shoulder, feeling him stiffen. He spoke softly, “Let go of the hurt I caused you. We had good times too, didn’t we?”
“Get lost.”
“…”
Ji Xiao withdrew his hand and walked out without a change in expression.
Black Cat: “This Mo Lin is tricky, you know. I don’t think he’s ever going to fall for you.”
Ji Xiao: “Give me the female lead’s information.”
“Alright,” Black Cat said, sounding curious. “Are you planning to imitate the female lead?”
Ji Xiao did not answer him. As he walked towards Zhou Jinzhu’s home, he meticulously pondered Qu Qian’s details.
Zhou Jinzhu, seeing him return, showed no sign of having overheard their conversation. He greeted Ji Xiao with a warm smile.
“I have to go out for a bit. My editor needs me for something.”
“Do you want me to come with you?”
“No need! I won’t be gone too long.”
Zhou Jinzhu pulled on his coat, leaned in, and kissed the corner of Ji Xiao’s lips. “I’m off!”
“Okay.”
Ji Xiao walked to the window, opened it, and lit a cigarette, watching Zhou Jinzhu’s car drive away.
Only then did he pick up his phone and dial a number.
“Hello, who is this?”
“Mo Lin’s friend, Sheng Xiao. Do you remember me?”
“Ah,” Qu Qian chuckled. “Of course, I remember! Have you and Brother Mo made up?”
“No,” Ji Xiao said, leaning back against the window, his eyes clear. “Qu Qian, after spending a few days with him in the hospital, did you notice anything unusual?”
In the original plot, Qu Qian discovered Mo Lin’s psychological issues, slowly guided and accompanied him, and they became a loving couple.
Qu Qian was silent for a moment. “I did notice some things.”
“He hasn’t had many friends these past few years. When he talks to you, he seems very relaxed.”
Ji Xiao slowly exhaled a puff of smoke.
“Qu Qian, do you consider Mo Lin a friend?”
Qu Qian: “Of course.”
“Where do you live now?”
“Yunsheng Community.”
“Where do you work?”
“Nanyun Street,” Qu Qian laughed. “Mr. Sheng, are you conducting a census?”
“Yunsheng is quite far from Nanyun, isn’t it? Would you mind moving?” Ji Xiao said. “Chang Sheng Apartments, right across from Mo Lin. Interested?”
“Is the rent expensive?”
“Your rent will be waived.”
“Oh, that’s too kind.”
“Just consider it helping us manage things. You’ll cover your own utilities like water and electricity.”
Qu Qian: “Let me think about it.”
“Alright.”
Ji Xiao hung up the phone.

C City Second Middle School, Grade One, Class Three.
“Sheng Lin, your uncle is looking for you.”
Hearing the teacher’s words, Sheng Lin looked at Qin Ce.
Qin Ce turned his head, pretending not to see. It wasn’t him they were looking for, so he wasn’t going.
Sheng Lin had no choice but to stand up and walk out of the classroom alone.
“Uncle Zhou.”
Zhou Jinzhu looked at his face, which bore some resemblance to Mo Lin’s, and gently patted his head. “Let’s go, we’ll talk on the sports field.”
“Okay!”
Though Sheng Lin was a little puzzled, he followed him outside.
Zhou Jinzhu narrowed his eyes. “I just realized, you look a bit like me.”
“Uncle Zhou, you just noticed? Dad said I looked a lot like you the first time he saw you,” Sheng Lin pouted. “But I don’t think we look alike.”
Zhou Jinzhu’s eyes flickered. “Is that so? Brother Xiao said that?”
