Chapter 35: A Bitter Medicine and a Stubborn Heart

“Madam, Qiu Zhi has secretly brought Wei Xiuyuan into the manor.”

Mother Chen smiled.

“Take them to the Young Master’s courtyard to wait for me.”

The maid acknowledged the order.

“Yes.”

Qiu Zhi, head bowed, led Wei Xiuyuan forward, both dressed in servant attire. She whispered softly, “The Young Master’s room is surrounded like an iron barrel. What are we going to do?”

They had arrived, but it seemed there was little they could actually achieve.

Wei Xiuyuan murmured, “We must at least see him.”

A maid stepped forward, blocking their path.

Qiu Zhi looked up, her face falling into a bitter expression.

“Sister Xueyue, is something the matter?”

Xueyue smiled.

“Lord Wei, our madam requests your presence.”

Wei Xiuyuan’s expression remained calm.

“Please lead the way.”

Xueyue gestured.

“This way, please.”

Wei Xiuyuan followed Xueyue’s steps.

Qiu Zhi quickly trailed behind, her face so crumpled it resembled a steamed bun.

Following Xueyue, Wei Xiuyuan arrived outside Ji Xiao’s courtyard gate. His gaze immediately fell upon Mother Chen, standing there in luxurious attire.

Wei Xiuyuan performed a proper junior’s bow.

“Ziyan greets Auntie.”

“You are not worthy of such a greeting,” Mother Chen sneered.

“I can allow you to enter, but you must promise to remain silent. Should you violate this, you can forget about staying in Ancheng.”

Wei Xiuyuan was silent for a moment.

“Very well.”

“Let’s go.”

Mother Chen led them to the room adjacent to Ji Xiao’s, bordering the connecting wall between the two rooms.

Only Mother Chen and Wei Xiuyuan were present.

“Get out—!”

Ji Xiao’s voice echoed through, causing Wei Xiuyuan’s eyelashes to tremble.

Mother Chen’s lips curved into a faint smile. *What’s impossible? He still couldn’t hold out.*

Next door, the maid Wan Yue, beautiful in appearance, spoke with a sweet voice.

“Young Master, I am merely following orders. I implore the Young Master to show this servant some pity.”

Ji Xiao lifted his gaze, giving her a cold look, and slightly parted his legs.

“Do you truly believe I have any interest in you?”

Wan Yue looked down, noticing the distinct lack of any arousal, and was stunned.

“Young Master, you… why is there no reaction?”

Ji Xiao’s brows were indifferent.

“Even if you were stark naked, I would have no reaction. Why bother with this charade? Go back and report to my mother.”

Wan Yue hesitated.

“Perhaps the medicine hasn’t fully taken effect yet…”

Ji Xiao simply said, “Then you may wait.”

Wan Yue stepped closer.

“Young Master, may I… may I touch you?”

A flash of murderous intent flickered in Ji Xiao’s eyes.

“Do you wish to die?”

Wan Yue recoiled a step, gritting her teeth.

“The medicine Madam gave the Young Master, if not acted upon, will cause harm…”

“If I can’t get hard, how can I act?”

“Let me touch…”

“Dare to touch me, and I’ll chop off your hand!”

“…”

Wan Yue looked distressed.

“Then let’s wait another quarter of an hour. If the Young Master still has no reaction after that, this servant will report to Madam and fetch an antidote for you.”

“Fine.”

“Young Master, may this servant watch?”

“Watch all you like.”

Ji Xiao openly spread his legs for her to see, knowing full well his trousers remained on.

Next door, Mother Chen’s face darkened.

Wei Xiuyuan’s eyes, however, showed a hint of amusement.

A quarter of an hour later, Wan Yue looked dejected.

“Young Master, your face is drenched in sweat, yet why can you still not rise?”

Ji Xiao’s voice was slightly hoarse.

“Because you are a woman.”

Wan Yue sighed helplessly.

“This servant will go report to Madam now. Please wait a little longer, Young Master.”

Next door, Mother Chen exited the room with a dark expression. She waved her hand to dismiss all the guards, personally opened the door to Ji Xiao’s room, and left without a backward glance.

Wan Yue also followed her out.

Wei Xiuyuan entered Ji Xiao’s room and immediately saw him, face glistening with sweat, legs wide apart.

Under Wei Xiuyuan’s gaze, Ji Xiao immediately pitched a tent.

Wei Xiuyuan blinked.

Ji Xiao’s voice was husky.

“Close the door.”

Wei Xiuyuan turned and closed the door.

Ji Xiao strode forward, scooped him up in his arms, and headed towards the bed.

“Your body is burning hot… Mmph.”

Mother Chen returned to her courtyard.

Father Chen was holding Chen Jin beneath a tree.

Chen Jin’s small hands occasionally grasped at the leaves, and he giggled joyfully.

Seeing his wife return with a grim expression, Father Chen quickly handed Chen Jin to the waiting wet nurse and inquired, “How did it go?”

“He was given a potent aphrodisiac, and for nearly half an hour, he couldn’t get an erection even with the beautiful Wan Yue by his side. What do you think?”

“…”

Mother Chen flung her sleeve and sat on a stone stool.

“If it were you, I doubt you’d last even a quarter of an hour!”

Father Chen said helplessly, “Even if I couldn’t last a quarter of an hour, that would be due to the medicine’s effects, not my true intention.”

Hearing this, Mother Chen grew even angrier.

“Yet he endured for a full half an hour without getting hard—”

“Enough,” Father Chen coaxed, leaning closer. “Just because he doesn’t marry, does that mean he’s not our son?”

Mother Chen huffed.

“How can affection between men last? Wei Xiuyuan is willing to be with him now, but when his future is bright, will he still be willing?”

Father Chen replied, “That is Xiao’er’s business…”

“He’s a distinguished *zhuangyuan*, recalled to the capital, poised for rapid advancement. Is it possible he won’t marry and will devote his entire life to our son?”

“That is also Xiao’er’s business…”

“Get out of my sight!”

“…This husband was wrong.”
