Chapter 65: The Arrival of the Flying Car

“Get in the car first. What if zombies come while you’re standing outside?”

“My uniform…”

“Forget it.”

“…”

Ji Xiao lay comfortably on the bed, propped up by a pillow, watching Liang Qiujian with a smile. “Sit down. Isn’t it tiring to crouch?”

Liang Qiujian, who hadn’t decided whether to go to the driver’s cab or sit on the sofa by the bed, froze.

He moved to the sofa and just sat down.

With a “rip,” the sound of fabric tearing was especially crisp.

Ji Xiao looked at his waist down.

Liang Qiujian: “…” He clamped his legs together.

Ji Xiao: “Pfft.”

Liang Qiujian said awkwardly, “These pants are a bit small…”

His body was all muscular; squeezing into them was already an achievement.

Ji Xiao raised his hand. “I’ll get you a bigger pair.”

“Don’t—”

Liang Qiujian lunged forward and grabbed his hand. “Don’t change them. I’ll go upstairs and get my uniform.”

“Maybe,” Ji Xiao looked up at him from his lying position, “there’s no price to pay at all. I can exchange for anything without any consequences. It’s just a pair of pants.”

“Better safe than sorry,” Liang Qiujian let go of his hand. “It’s just a pair of pants. I’ll go get them. Don’t leave the car. I’ll be right back.”

After saying that, he got out of the car.

As soon as he left, Ji Xiao also got out.

He took out a cigarette from his pocket, put it between his lips, and lowered his head to light it.

Black Cat: “Stop smoking. Get back in the car. Zombies are coming!”

Ji Xiao took a drag and put the lighter back in his pocket. Raising his eyes, he looked at the two zombies staggering toward him.

Decayed. Disgusting.

The smell of smoke couldn’t mask the stench of rot in the air.

[Give me an AK.]

Black Cat: “It’s expensive. Cold weapons are cheaper.”

[…Then give me a red-tasseled spear.]

A red-tasseled spear appeared out of thin air. Ji Xiao reached out and caught it.

As the two zombies wobbled closer, he swept the spear diagonally. The force was so great that it sent both heads flying.

A pair of best friends hiding in the convenience store across the street witnessed this cool scene.

“It’s him, it’s him! It’s Bro Xiao! So handsome!”

“Shut up.”

“Let’s go ask if we can join him!”

“Get back—damn it!”

Ji Xiao walked over to a tilted trash can by the roadside, straightened it, and stubbed out his cigarette.

Turning around, he saw two women approaching him one after the other.

The one in front had her long hair casually tied to one side, wearing a not-so-clean dress. The one behind had her hair in a neat high ponytail, sporting a tracksuit with obvious bloodstains on the sleeves and front.

Soon, the woman in the dress ran up to him, her baby-faced smile bright. “It’s Bro Xiao, right? You’re Bro Xiao!”

Ji Xiao raised an eyebrow. “A fan?”

“Yeah! I’m your fan! My name is Luo Xin. Bro Xiao, since the world’s gone crazy, can we team up? My best friend is awesome! She’s super tough!”

“…”

Ji Xiao looked at the woman behind Luo Xin.

Her eyes were slightly cold, her red lips tight, in a protective stance toward Luo Xin, her gaze constantly wary of Ji Xiao.

Ji Xiao didn’t say anything. He turned his head to look at Liang Qiujian, who was walking toward them carrying a bag of clothes.

Luo Xin heard footsteps and turned around. “Whoa! Is he a bodybuilder? Bro Xiao, is he your partner?”

“Mm.”

Liang Qiujian reached Ji Xiao’s side, shot an unhappy glance at Luo Xin, then looked at Ji Xiao. “You know her?”

Ji Xiao curled his lips. “She’s my fan.”

Luo Xin nodded eagerly, eyes shining. “Yes, yes!”

Liang Qiujian: “Do you sleep with fans?”

Ji Xiao’s smile deepened. “I do.”

Liang Qiujian turned to Luo Xin seriously. “He sleeps with fans. Not safe. You’d better go.”

Luo Xin: “?”

After a moment, she finally understood. “I don’t mind—”

“Can—”

The friend scooped her up and quickly walked away.

Not until they returned to the car did Liang Qiujian’s expression toward Ji Xiao still seem off.

Ji Xiao took off his shoes and lay back on the bed.

Liang Qiujian hung up the wrung-out clothes and pants from the bag, then walked over and sat by the bed, curious. “Do you really sleep with fans?”

Ji Xiao chuckled softly. “Never before.”

Liang Qiujian breathed a sigh of relief.

Good, never before. And there wouldn’t be any chance in the future.

“Zhang…” Liang Qiujian paused. “Bro, do you have a place you want to go? Your parents…”

“What about your family?” Ji Xiao asked.

“I’m an orphan. No family. So,” Liang Qiujian lowered his head, “wherever Bro wants to go, I’ll take you there.”

Hearing him call him “Bro” repeatedly, Ji Xiao looked pleased. “How old are you?”

“Twenty-six.”

“I’m twenty-three.”

“…” I know. As a fan.

“Older than me,” he looked at him blankly.

Liang Qiujian felt a bit awkward. “Everyone calls you Bro Zhang, Teacher Zhang… So I just followed along.”

If he knew, he wouldn’t ask him to call him “Bro”; even calling him “Dad” would be fine.

Ji Xiao closed his eyes.

Black Cat: “In the storyline, when all of you died, the apocalypse hadn’t ended yet.”

[Check the world line.]

Black Cat: “This…”

[Check?]

Black Cat: “Check.”

Liang Qiujian waited for a while. Seeing that Ji Xiao had closed his eyes and stopped talking, he assumed he was asleep. He reached out to pull the blanket over him, then tiptoed to the window to look outside.

Occasionally, a few scattered zombies wandered by outside.

This was only the third day.

He wondered what the world would become if this continued.

In just three days, many people had abandoned their homes and fled, with robberies and lootings popping up everywhere.

The floor-to-ceiling windows of many street shops were smashed, leaving the interiors in shambles.

Where had those people fled to? Was it safe outside?

Black Cat: “There’s a genius blessed with luck. A year from now, he will research the use of new energy. Under his leadership, he will gradually recruit talented individuals, create faster means of transportation, restore the network… and ultimately end the otherworldly invasion, leading humanity into a new era.”

Ji Xiao: [Where is he?]

Black Cat: “Right now, he’s still in City A, following the school’s evacuation team.”

Ji Xiao opened his eyes. “Let’s go to City A.”

Liang Qiujian turned around. “You’re still awake.”

“Mm. Let’s go to City A, okay?”

“Okay,” Liang Qiujian nodded. “But the network and electricity are gone now. I don’t know the way… I’m not sure if the car’s navigation still works.”

“This car’s navigation works.”

“Mm, then I’ll go drive.”

“Thanks for the hard work.”

Liang Qiujian grinned. “No hardship.”

He picked up the car keys and headed to the driver’s seat.

Ji Xiao: [Go be the navigation.]

Black Cat: “What?”

Ji Xiao: [I said go be the navigation.]

Black Cat: “…”

Liang Qiujian started the car and tentatively turned on the navigation.

A light male voice sounded: “Hello, Black Cat Navigation at your service. I am your intelligent navigation system, Black Cat.”

“It’s even intelligent…” Liang Qiujian clutched his chest.

How many sacrifices had been made for this!

From now on, he had to keep a close eye on his idol and not let him use his ability recklessly!

Black Cat: “What can I help you with?”

Liang Qiujian gripped the steering wheel. “I want to go to City A.”

“Okay. The best route has been planned. Please go straight along the current road…”

On the bed in the back.

Ji Xiao: [Give me a solar-powered tablet.]

Black Cat: “Save your points. This world is still long… and there are other worlds after this. What if you run out?”

Ji Xiao: [Give it.]

Black Cat: “…Fine.”

Ji Xiao: [What energy does this car use?]

Black Cat: “Infinite energy.”

Ji Xiao raised an eyebrow. [Forget the solar tablet. I want an infinite-energy tablet.]

Black Cat: “…” I jumped the gun.

A brand-new tablet appeared. Ji Xiao asked, [How does it achieve infinite energy?]

“It contains a type of energy that doesn’t exist in this world. As long as it’s not disassembled and the energy source removed, it can recharge infinitely.”

[Got it.]

Ji Xiao turned on the tablet and saw a few built-in mini games. He tapped on one and started playing.

Those stubby-legged zombies couldn’t catch up at all.

The scenery on both sides flashed by.

Looking at the speedometer marking at least 100, Liang Qiujian felt even more frustrated.

The car his idol had exchanged for probably wasn’t even from this world!

Once they left the city and hit the highway, Black Cat suddenly said, “If you’re in a hurry, you can enable flight mode and use the super button to reach City A in one second.”

Liang Qiujian: “What did you say?”

Black Cat repeated itself.

Black Cat: “To enter flight mode, press the blue button on the steering wheel.”

Liang Qiujian looked at the colored buttons on the steering wheel and twitched the corner of his mouth.

Good thing he hadn’t pressed any of them randomly earlier.

Liang Qiujian thought for a moment, then pressed the blue button.

“Liftoff mode enabled.”

The voice that sounded was a robotic female voice.

Feeling the car suddenly stop and rapidly ascend, Liang Qiujian gripped the steering wheel tightly. “Why did you turn into a woman?”

Black Cat: “That’s the car’s original system, not me.”

Liang Qiujian: “Got it. The navigation system and the original system are not the same system.”

Black Cat: “…”

Original System: “Liftoff has reached the initial altitude. Please manually control the altitude next.”

Black Cat: “It will continue to ascend. When you reach the desired altitude, press the yellow button. I’ve calculated the optimal altitude for a straight path to City A with no obstacles. When I say stop, you press it.”

Liang Qiujian said dazedly, “Oh.”

Black Cat: “Stop.”

Liang Qiujian slammed the yellow button, staring at the blue sky and white clouds ahead, eyes glazed. “What if I never press stop?”

Black Cat: “Then you’ll fly out of Earth.”

Liang Qiujian: “…”

In the back.

Ji Xiao held the tablet, casually glanced at the clouds outside the window, and said, [So this is a sci-fi channel?]

Black Cat gritted its teeth. “Sorry, but I saw this car on sale for a discount, not much different from regular cars, so I bought it. If you don’t like it, I can resell it for points and buy a car more fitting for this era.”

Ji Xiao: [You can resell things for points? Then I can sell things from this world? Why didn’t you say so before?]

Black Cat: “…” Damn, I messed up again.

It smiled stiffly. “Only items bought with points and not damaged can be resold and recycled.”

Ji Xiao: [Why didn’t you say that before?]

Black Cat: “You didn’t use many points before, and there was no need for recycling, so I didn’t tell the host.”

Ji Xiao: [Heh.]

Driver’s cab.

Liang Qiujian: “What’s next?”

Black Cat: “Please press the red button and release it after 0.9 seconds. Otherwise, you’ll overshoot City A.”

Liang Qiujian: “…Are you joking?”

Black Cat: “No, I’m not?” Who the hell has time to joke around? I’m already pissed off by the host.

Liang Qiujian: “0.9 seconds is hard for me to control.”

Black Cat: “Then I suggest you press and release quickly. If you don’t overshoot, drive in land mode. If you do, drive back in land mode.”

Liang Qiujian: “…Fine.”

He sat up straight, pressed the red button sharply, and released it.

In a blink, it felt like he was still in the same place.

Black Cat: “You’re 800 meters away from City A. You can switch to land mode now.”

Liang Qiujian: “How do I do that?”

Black Cat: “After you set up liftoff mode, the blue button will flash. See it? Press it again to descend.”

Liang Qiujian silently pressed the flashing blue button.

Original System: “Landing mode enabled.”

On the ground.

A school bus was parked by the roadside.

People were scattering away from the bus.

Inside, the roars of zombies and the screams of people mixed together.

Those who had already run out of the bus didn’t look back.

Some raised makeshift “weapons” to fight the zombies that had gotten out.

Inside the bus, a few boys protected a slender young man, swinging at the zombies while frantically knocking on the windows.

Suddenly, a car descended from the sky and landed steadily in front of the school bus.
