The shadowy figures suddenly took shape. One of them let out a confused sound.
Xiao Xi, one of the shadows, narrowed his eyes as he watched the boys rushing toward them, genuinely puzzled.
Amidst the panic, Nan Feng and his group, already fleeing in a hurry, were startled out of their wits by the sudden appearance of Xiao Xi and Mi Ya. They jumped back two steps in fright. In his terror, Nan Feng even employed the Total Concentration Breathing method. After a round of frantic inhales and exhales like a collective asthma attack, everyone stared intently.
Thankfully, someone with good night vision recognized Xiao Xi and Mi Ya halfway, otherwise…
Tonight, they would likely have heard Nan Feng’s terrified screams.
“Holy shit… it’s… you guys! I thought it was some… no! Mi Ya, Xiao Xi, run! We encountered a ghost!”
“A… ghost?” Xiao Xi frowned, thinking to himself, ‘Could these big guys have been scared by the shadows of some object?’ But then he reconsidered: ‘No way? These people… scared by a few shadows?’
“Yes! A ghost! There’s a ghost in the restroom on the seventh floor! I heard a strange noise, got curious, and looked into a stall. As soon as I entered, I saw a hanged puppet. I turned to run, but the stall door was blocked by something. Then… then strange strands of hair wrapped around me, and I was chased by a ghost. They saw it too—we’ve been chased all the way… Oh, right! Run!”
Before Xiao Xi could speak, the boys, remembering they were still being pursued by a ghost, started running again in panic. Nan Feng tried to drag Mi Ya and Xiao Xi along, but failed, because Mi Ya stood firmly in place, staring ahead as if observing whether there really was a ghost.
Xiao Xi was a bit scared too, but… seeing Mi Ya’s confident demeanor, he felt embarrassed to run.
Yet… thinking about it, encountering a ghost in the complex building seemed fitting for a campus legend. What if he got scared? His legs were already weak. Xiao Xi felt that Nan Feng and the others probably weren’t scared off by something baseless; it felt like something had actually happened.
His reasoning should be correct, right? So… what exactly happened?
Mi Ya smiled, as if she had found some motivation. Her earlier gloomy mood vanished. Suddenly, she pulled a small wand from under her skirt, grabbed Xiao Xi’s hand, and charged straight toward the seventh floor.
Was she being brave or suicidal?
Terrified, Xiao Xi clung tightly to Mi Ya, afraid of falling behind. In horror stories, splitting up was the worst mistake—monsters would easily pick off the lone ones. Though Mi Ya was just a chuunibyou witch, at this moment, Xiao Xi unexpectedly felt a sense of security beside her.
Looking at Mi Ya’s blazing gaze, he felt a bit ignited… ha… ha…
He still wanted to run!
The two walked up the dark stairs step by step toward the seventh floor. The eerie scene made Xiao Xi shiver. The thought of a ghost appearing at any moment made cold sweat drip.
Mi Ya noticed Xiao Xi’s nervousness. In this unknown environment, she thought: ‘Why not cheer him up a little?’ So she stopped and reached under her skirt again…
Wait, is your skirt a four-dimensional pocket?
Xiao Xi stared in disbelief as Mi Ya pulled out a bunch of items: peach wood swords, talismans, a whip, candles, a stun gun… uh…
“Catching ghosts~ No big deal. I have plenty of props~ Enough to give the ghost a hard time.”
Mi Ya introduced confidently. Xiao Xi gave a hollow laugh. Heh… heh…
You…
He could understand the earlier props, but what were the later ones?
These definitely weren’t for catching ghosts, right? Did her method of ghost catching include content not suitable for children? That didn’t seem right! That was unreasonable!
“Are… are these really props for catching ghosts?”
“Oh, don’t sweat the details. No big deal~ Hey! Take out your phone! Come on, Xiao Xi, this experience is quite novel! Let’s take a photo to commemorate it!”
Mi Ya happily made a peace sign and snapped a photo. Xiao Xi could only force a smile and then…
Xiao Xi stared at the eerie photo of the two of them on his phone, lost in thought.
Hmm…
Reckless ones who don’t listen to advice.
The main group splits up and acts separately.
A memorial photo.
Bad.
They… seemed to have triggered every taboo in horror stories.
Xiao Xi sucked in a cold breath. Hiss—
Doom!
In fright, Xiao Xi quickly grabbed Mi Ya’s phone and deleted the photo. But just as he deleted it, suddenly—
“Bang~ Bang~”
Hiss—
Both Xiao Xi and Mi Ya were drawn to the sound. After a moment, Xiao Xi gave a bitter smile.
Indeed…
There really was a ghost. Run!
Xiao Xi, terrified, wanted to turn and flee, but Mi Ya grabbed him and pulled him back. She stroked her chin, thought for a moment, then smiled, tilted her head, took Xiao Xi’s hand, and charged into the restroom again!
Xiao Xi wanted to run, but couldn’t drag Mi Ya away; instead, she dragged him along…
Help! Why are people so eager to die nowadays?
Scary!
Mi Ya entered the restroom. The sound grew clearer, almost exactly as Nan Feng had described. Xiao Xi, frightened, held onto Mi Ya and shook his head vigorously, his voice trembling:
“We can’t go, Mi Ya! Don’t open that stall door! You’ll see the hanged puppet!”
“I know, heheh. But this is just a small trick, the simplest magic. Xiao Xi, watch this great witch in action~”
Mi Ya looked very confident. Was she really planning to take on the ghost alone? Could it be… that in a magical world, combat power depended on how wild one’s imagination was? Was Mi Ya actually quite strong in some dimension?
Was that reasonable? Was that appropriate?
It… it might be okay. Otherwise, he might not make it through tonight.
As Xiao Xi caught his breath, Mi Ya did something that made his heart stop. She… she started opening the stall doors one by one!
Wait…
Nan Feng only opened one! Opening four or five at once—wasn’t that too reckless!
Over! Over!
Xiao Xi muttered a few words, but soon noticed that Mi Ya didn’t touch the stall making the noise. She was just opening the regular ones. Xiao Xi was stunned for a moment, then quickly realized!
Oh~
So that’s it!
Wait…
If so, then that meant…
Holding his breath, Xiao Xi watched. Finally, as the last stall door was opened, a black figure suddenly leaped out from one of them!
Mm!
“Ghost!”
Xiao Xi couldn’t help shouting. The black figure landed on the ground, a strange sneer curling at the corner of its mouth. Mi Ya stared coldly at the figure, a hint of mockery and triumph in her eyes.
“You’ve been seen through by me! Ghost!”
