Chapter 53: The Witch’s Unveiling and a Fumbled Retreat

“Danger!”

Reacting swiftly, Nan Feng darted behind a tree. Xiao Xi and Mia immediately turned to flee, but they were both seized by the opponent and hoisted into the air.

“Ugh…”

Six eyes met.

The scene, perhaps… perhaps it was a little awkward.

“Ugh, mortal, release this witch at once! Do you believe I’ll blast you with a fireball…?”

Before Mia could finish, Nan Feng, a resentful expression on his face, flicked her forehead, silencing her.

‘Hmm…’

‘Observing the battle…’

“Argh, argh, argh! How dare you disrespect a witch?! Release me, if you’re so brave! I’ll burn your pants today, do you believe me?! Ah! Stop flicking me! Let me down! Let me down!”

Mia thrashed and yelled wildly. However, she and Xiao Xi, held captive by the Student Council President, resembled rabbits dangling by their ears.

One kicked frantically while the other timidly curled up, yet neither found a way to escape.

‘Hmm…’

‘It seems the Student Council President’s strength is superior. Brute force is far more reliable than magic.’

“Ah, oh, that’s right!” Nan Feng exclaimed, scrutinizing Mia with surprise. “You’re the girl who ran onto the stage and spouted nonsense that day!”

Mia scoffed. “Hmph, you recognize this witch now, do you? I’m telling you, you’d better release this witch immediately, or I’ll scatter your ashes to the wind! Did you hear me? Let me down! Let me down!”

Mia seemed to grow arrogant once more, as if she truly considered that day’s incident a shining moment in her life’s journey.

However, in a certain sense, what Mia did was indeed… quite successful. At the very least, she made everyone in the school remember her, didn’t she?

To be instantly recognized by the usually busy Student Council President, Mia was, in some ways, quite remarkable.

‘Ugh…’

‘Oh no!’

Just as Xiao Xi was quietly complaining to himself, the Student Council President’s gaze suddenly shifted to him. He looked down and noticed the small water gun in Xiao Xi’s hand, his brow furrowing.

“Tsk… So it was you who sprayed me with the water gun? I wondered why water suddenly splashed on me. I thought it was bird pee. One or two splashes would be fine, but a dozen of them was quite a lot. So there was a reason after all.”

“Emmm… *cough, cough*, no, no, no, President, you’ve misunderstood. It was Mia! Mia sprayed you!”

Xiao Xi decisively shoved the small water gun into Mia’s hand. Mia turned, looking utterly shocked at Xiao Xi’s blatant deflection.

Mia: “But I’m the Flame Witch, Xiao Xi. A small water gun and I are like oil and water.”

Xiao Xi: “But… didn’t you give this to me?”

Nan Feng: “Perhaps… you two should discuss it a bit more? Coordinate your stories?”

“Ugh…”

“*Cough, cough*, no more jokes. I know this eccentric witch student. But this white-haired beauty here, who are you? Why are you still at school so late at night with her, and why are you eavesdropping on our conversation?”

Nan Feng cleared his throat and set Xiao Xi and Mia down. Xiao Xi quickly stood at attention, gazing at the Student Council President’s solemn expression. He felt… he felt like he had been caught by the dean.

There was nothing for it but to confess.

“I… My name is Shi Xi. I’m a first-year student. Um, I met Mia by chance, and then I was just wandering around the school with her for fun. We accidentally saw you here, got curious, and came over to look. Um, also, I’m not…”

“Ugh…”

‘Wait a minute.’ As he spoke, Xiao Xi had intended to say, ‘I’m not a beautiful girl, I’m a boy,’ to clarify. But then he saw Yuzu still waiting somewhat reservedly behind Nan Feng, and suddenly felt… ‘Hmm…’

‘Maybe it’s better not to clarify my gender for now? It’s not that important anyway. If they got it wrong, they got it wrong. If the Student Council President found out he’d mistaken the gender of two boys in one night, he’d probably question his entire existence.’

Xiao Xi honestly explained the situation. Mia, on the other hand, was not so compliant after being released. She pouted, adjusted her collar, and then angrily declared,

“Hmph, I did nothing wrong. The school is free. My familiar, Xiao Xi, and I can go wherever we please. You have no right to control me, nor to hoist me up. Just you wait, I’ll activate my Evil Eye of the Overlord tonight, and tomorrow… *Mmph, mmph*, tomorrow I’ll blast you with a fireball!”

‘This…’

‘What new setting is this Evil Eye of the Overlord? Are you related to Rikka Takanashi?’

The Student Council President listened to her outburst and seemed to feel a bit put on the spot. He frowned, thought for a moment, and then retorted,

“*Cough, cough*, while where you go is none of my business, eavesdropping is certainly wrong, isn’t it? When did you two arrive, and what did you hear?”

“Ugh…” Xiao Xi scratched his head. “To be honest, I didn’t hear much of the earlier conversation, but as for the later part… um… we heard everything.”

Upon hearing this, Nan Feng’s body suddenly tensed. ‘Wh-What…?’

‘The later part… they heard everything?’

‘Hiss—’

‘Doesn’t that mean…’

“Enm, that’s right. We even heard you confessing to a boy, only to be rejected, and then stubbornly asking more strange questions. Didn’t expect that, did you? *Pfft*—”

Mia covered her mouth, stifling a laugh. Seeing the Student Council President’s face flush from red to purple, a truly spectacular expression, she finally felt a sense of malicious satisfaction. Hmph~

Nan Feng, enraged and flustered, grabbed Mia’s hand, attempting to pull her away forcefully. Mia immediately slapped his hand away, then sneered, clearly mocking him.

‘Ah…’

‘This…’

‘This atmosphere isn’t right.’

‘Maybe I should slip away now. It seems the situation hasn’t spread to me yet. This, this, this… if I don’t run now, a scene of a boyfriend protecting his wife and assaulting someone might actually play out.’

‘*Cough, cough*…’

‘I mean Nan Feng protecting his wife, not Mia, and certainly not me.’

‘In short… maybe… I should just run away?’

Xiao Xi tugged at Mia, giving her a look that urged her to calm down and not provoke the other party too much.

Nan Feng forcibly suppressed the explosive shame and anger raging within him, and threatened Mia, “You two staying at school late at night is a violation of discipline! Come to the student council tomorrow to have points deducted!”

“Wh-What?”

“Deducted points?”

“…”

“Hmph, Xiao Xi, there’s no need to be afraid. Deducted points? Fine. If staying at school late at night means deducted points, then tell me, you and Yuzu are also wandering around the school late at night. Shouldn’t you also have points deducted?”

Mia retorted with a cold laugh. Nan Feng froze. ‘Th-This… how did this get turned back on me?’

“Th-This… we have special circumstances! It’s not like you!”

Nan Feng continued to argue.

Mia: “Oh? Is that so~ So there are special circumstances, huh? Well, then, deduct points if you must. However, to prove the President’s innocence, you wouldn’t mind if I revealed your special circumstances from tonight, would you? That way, if anyone says you stayed at school late at night, you’ll have a clear explanation~”

This threat was even more brazen!

“I…”

Nan Feng was clearly intimidated. ‘This… it seems this red-haired girl in front of me really is an out-and-out witch!’

‘There’s no other way… I absolutely cannot let this get out!’

“Tsk… You two can go! But whatever you do, don’t spread this around, understand?”

“Mmhmm~ That depends on my mood, though. Let’s go, Xiao Xi~”

Mia pulled Xiao Xi’s hand. Xiao Xi looked around in surprise, ‘This… that’s all there is to it?’
