Join the ServerThe black shadow said nothing. Instead, they assumed an attacking posture, hunching forward and leaning in as if ready to pounce at any moment.
Mi Ya, naturally, would not be outdone. She stepped forward, lowered her stance, and raised her staff, prepared for battle.
“Hmph! So you’re the school ghost, aren’t you? I am Mi Ya, the Flaming Witch! State your name, for I do not slay nameless foes!” Mi Ya pointed at the phantom.
Because the shadow was so heavily cloaked, Xiao Xi couldn’t see their expression. But from the way they retreated two steps, it seemed the creature was actually afraid of Mi Ya?
Wait, what? A ghost afraid of Mi Ya?
Even I’m not afraid of Mi Ya!
Well… at least, not after I learned she’s just an ordinary high school girl. Sigh…
Wait! I got distracted.
Xiao Xi quickly turned his attention back to the two combatants. But the scene that followed took an unexpected turn.
Mi Ya stepped forward with her left foot, took a deep breath, and her gaze turned sharp. Every move the shadow made was etched in her eyes. The two circled each other, both eagerly seeking an opening—eagerly, indeed. Neither Mi Ya nor the shadow was calm or composed; there was none of the cool restraint of a master duel. You could feel it: both were agitated, for neither knew the other’s true strength.
The moment she heard the shadow’s panting, Mi Ya seized the opportunity, concentrating her energy on her staff.
[Secret Art: Flame Burst!]
A white flash—a scorching fireball shot straight at the shadow. But the shadow was agile; they dodged left, easily evading the first blast.
However—how could a true witch only have one fireball?
[Secret Art: Flame Burst Barrage!]
Mi Ya shouted, and a second, third, fourth—countless fireballs streaked toward the shadow. Yet none hit. The shadow twisted and turned in midair, effortlessly dodging Mi Ya’s attacks. And not only that—they were also closing in on her!
Suddenly, Mi Ya spun around, her eyes widening in shock as she saw the shadow had teleported behind her. They drew a long blade and aimed at her neck.
[One Slash Cut!]
A smirk curled at the corner of the shadow’s mouth. The blade shot toward Mi Ya’s neck—surely this would be a bloody scene! “Defeating you wasn’t so hard after all!”
Bang!
[Flame Barrier!]
The silver blade was repelled by an invisible shield, the clash of metal echoing in the air. The blade hadn’t touched Mi Ya. Her entire body was now enveloped in a red protective aura.
“Pfft—” Mi Ya’s small fangs showed as she laughed. “How could I be beaten by someone like you? I am the Flaming Witch!”
What?
[Secret Art: Whirling Fireballs!]
The shadow’s heart skipped a beat. This time, they couldn’t evade. Mi Ya extended her hand, and in an instant, the fireballs that the shadow had dodged earlier rebounded from the surrounding walls, hurtling toward the shadow from all directions—too fast, too wide an angle. Dodging was impossible.
The fireballs pierced the shadow’s body, the searing pain sending them crashing to the ground, spitting blood.
“Is that all you’ve got? Hmph, ghost, looks like you’ll be the one to fall today~” Mi Ya sneered, reaching out to grab them.
The shadow, enduring the pain, suddenly scrambled to their feet. From somewhere, they produced a round object and hurled it to the ground. Instantly, smoke billowed everywhere.
“Cough, cough—” Xiao Xi’s eyes stung from the smoke; he coughed uncontrollably. Mi Ya rushed over, hugged him, and dashed out of the restroom. Fortunately, the device wasn’t very powerful, and the smoke cloud was limited. Soon, Xiao Xi and Mi Ya escaped the smoky area.
But—after recovering, Xiao Xi dashed back into the restroom to see the shadow again. There was nothing there. The shadow was gone…
What… what was that thing? That shadow…
Mi Ya followed him and patted his shoulder happily. “I’m strong, aren’t I, Xiao Xi?”
“Ahh—” Xiao Xi still couldn’t believe his eyes. Was he hallucinating?
Just as he was wondering, hurried footsteps sounded behind him. He spun around, fearing the shadow had circled back. In the dark, he saw several silhouettes—but not the ghost. These were bulky figures, obviously the boys from earlier.
They charged into the restroom, waving brooms around wildly. Nan Feng was howling, “Aaaah! Xiao Xi, Mi Ya, where are you? We’re here to save you!”
“Pfft—” Xiao Xi couldn’t help laughing, and Mi Ya joined in.
“Whoa, President, I think I heard Mi Ya and Xiao Xi laughing. That’s… creepy. I’m scared…” one of the boys said, trembling. Nan Feng was also scared, stuttering, “Mi Ya, settle scores if you must, but um… maybe take out that bald headmaster first? I-I-I’m innocent!”
“Pfft—” Mi Ya couldn’t hold it in anymore. She jumped out and slapped Nan Feng on the back, making him stumble back several steps, about to flee the restroom again. She grabbed him, laughing, “You come with me to ask the principal for leniency, and I’ll spare you~”
“I-I-I’ll do it! Let me go, boohoo—”
Xiao Xi silently watched the scene. Why did it feel… déjà vu?
“Pfft—I’m done teasing you. The ghost is gone—I drove it away. You’re safe! Thank me, and by the way, you’re all idiots.”
“Huh?” Nan Feng blinked. In the dim light, he finally calmed down and looked at Mi Ya properly. Then he sighed in relief. What? She was clearly a living person. “You scared me… Wait, Mi Ya, are you saying you beat that ghost?”
“Simple! I used magic to defeat it. Xiao Xi saw it all~ And I also saw through the ghost’s trick!” Mi Ya said proudly.
“What trick?” Xiao Xi asked curiously. Even though the ghost was gone, how had Nan Feng had that terrifying experience that stopped his heart?
“Actually, it’s simple. First, put a hanging doll in one stall. Use sounds to lure someone in. Then the ghost, hiding in the next stall, can rush out and block the door, using the gap to do whatever they want~ Such a cheap trick scared you all like that—pfft!”
“Eh?” Nan Feng pondered in surprise. Huh… That actually made sense! Damn! So it was just a terrifying prank?
“I’ve seen that trick before. But that shadow was really strong, and its fighting style… it was scary. I never expected they could move that fast!” Mi Ya analyzed on her own. The others smiled helplessly…
At last, the crisis was over!
