Chapter 38: The Left Protector’s Blade

Zhuo Yihang and the Wolf Girl dashed deeper into the forest, with He Luhua following close behind. The Eight Sects, leaderless and already in disarray, were caught off guard by the sudden attack from the Heterodox faction.

For a moment, they offered no resistance, and the battle turned into a one-sided slaughter.

However, they were all experts carefully trained by their masters. After a brief moment, they regained their composure, joined forces, and fought back.

If it had been only the Wolf Girl leading the charge, the Heterodox forces would have scattered like sand after her departure, falling into dire straits.

But Shui Jingxuan had followed them. With his martial prowess, dealing with these so-called ‘young masters’ was as easy as chopping vegetables, greatly alleviating the pressure on his comrades.

His three-foot-long green sword danced with supernatural grace. Even when the Wudang disciples combined their might in the powerful Seven Star Sword Formation, they could not face him head-on.

The formation was soon broken, and casualties were heavy.

The crimson-clad youth alternated between lightly flicking his sword tip and striking out with fierce palm attacks. Sword aura and palm wind swirled around him.

Wherever he passed, blood sprayed and corpses littered the ground. He was a human-shaped weapon.

The Eight Sects disciples were dumbfounded. Watching the smiling, murderous god-like youth weaving through the crowd with ease, they suddenly felt the urge to flee.

Only today did they truly understand the meaning of ‘There is always a stronger person beyond the strong, and a sky beyond the sky.’

They had thought that even though the Wolf Girl was formidable, they could join forces to easily slay her. But they never expected that with the Wolf Girl gone, an even more terrifying existence would appear.

The youth’s techniques were unfathomable, and his internal energy extremely profound. Even if they all joined forces, they could not guarantee survival, let alone kill him.

‘You people don’t even deserve to know my name,’ Shui Jingxuan said with a light laugh, then slapped an Eight Sects disciple who had lunged at him.

The man was instantly wrapped in a layer of white frost, and upon hitting the ground, shattered into pieces of flesh and bone, still emitting wisps of cold air.

‘Freezing Palm? Are you also Ji Wushuang’s disciple?’ the man recognized the technique and asked in horror.

‘You have some eyesight,’ Shui Jingxuan replied calmly. He raised his sword and swung it. The sword aura was like a rainbow, cleaving the man in two in the blink of an eye.

In truth, that palm strike, though looking like the Freezing Palm from the Poison Demon Arts, had been modified by Shui Jingxuan with his water-based supernatural power, making it far more powerful.

With the Freezing Palm as a cover, Shui Jingxuan could freely use his ice abilities, gaining an extra trump card to save his life.

‘Everyone who has seen me today must die,’ Shui Jingxuan said coldly, then ordered his followers, ‘Kill them all. Leave no survivors.’

If any survived, the Eight Great Sects would learn that the Demon Sect had an existence even more threatening than the Wolf Girl. They would not easily let him go.

And after he took power, the Demon Sect desperately needed a period of peace to recover its strength. Thus, he had no choice but to eradicate them.

With everyone dead, the blame would naturally fall on the Wolf Girl, drawing more hatred away from the Demon Sect. That would be her repayment for betraying her clan.

The followers felt that the Left Protector was decisive and bold. They dared not disobey his orders. They quickly pursued the scattered disciples and joined forces to annihilate the remaining dozen or so.

‘Reporting to the Left Protector, after checking, three are missing: our Sect’s Right Protector, Wudang’s Zhuo Yihang, and He Luhua,’ a follower came to report, cupping his fist respectfully after counting the corpses.

‘The Right Protector went to kill Zhuo Yihang. No need to worry about that. As for He Luhua, she will die sooner or later. Let her live a little longer,’ Shui Jingxuan said casually, waving his hand.

He knew that Wudang would soon be destroyed, so He Luhua was not a concern.

The follower looked at him with reverence, bowed, and acknowledged the order.

Shui Jingxuan glanced toward the depths of the dense forest and instructed, ‘The battle is over. No need to clean up here. Let the Eight Great Sects see our Sect’s might.

You go back now and report to the Sect Master. I will pursue the Right Protector and Zhuo Yihang.’

After the follower left, Shui Jingxuan leaped and quickly dashed toward the water cave where the Wolf Girl usually bathed. He needed to witness the development of the plot with his own eyes to be completely at ease.

Shortly after he left, the Demon Sect followers also carried the bodies of their fallen comrades and departed.

When He Luhua, having lost track of Zhuo Yihang and the Wolf Girl, returned to the campsite, she was greeted by a scene of rivers of blood and corpses strewn everywhere, like the hell of Avici.

Her eyes wide with rage, she knelt on the ground and wailed for a while. Then, gripping her sword tightly, she staggered toward Wudang.

Shui Jingxuan sped through the forest like a ghost, his form ethereal. In moments, he reached a large tree near the water cave.

Without needing to enter, he could hear the sounds of water, moans, and the slapping of flesh. Clearly, the battle inside was intense.

Having only met her twice, he had to admit that her love was fierce and full of an unyielding determination. But unfortunately, their opposing identities could not bear the weight of her love. Tragedy was destined from the start.

He leaned against the tree trunk, half-closing his eyes, and listened for a while. Confirming that the plot was proceeding as usual, he then turned and left. He had no lowly hobby of eavesdropping on others’ lovemaking.

Back at the Demon Sect, Azhuang and Black Tiger, who had returned earlier, went to the Meeting Hall to report the battle situation to Ji Wushuang.

‘Where is my disciple?’ Ji Wushuang asked, losing interest in their babbling when he saw that his beloved disciple was not among those entering. He had already received the news of victory.

‘Azhong, the Right Protector pursued Zhuo Yihang into the dense forest and hasn’t returned for a long time. The Left Protector was worried and followed,’ Azhuang replied.

Ji Wushuang frowned but didn’t speak. His twin sister slammed the table in anger, ‘Again! The Wolf Girl is utterly useless. She always needs little Tong to clean up after her! How much effort does it take to kill a Zhuo Yihang? Could it be that she found him handsome and couldn’t bear to strike?’

When it came to smearing the Wolf Girl, the female Ji Wushuang spared no effort. And coincidentally, her random accusations always happened to hit the truth.

‘If I had known earlier, I would never have given her the command,’ Ji Wushuang said coldly, thinking to himself: The Wolf Girl always drags down my disciple’s performance. Next time, I won’t let them go on missions together.

Just as the atmosphere in the hall turned chilly, and Azhuang and Black Tiger were sweating profusely, a voice from outside announced, ‘The Left Protector requests an audience.’

‘My disciple is back? Let him in quickly,’ Ji Wushuang’s gloomy expression instantly cleared, and the temperature in the hall rose rapidly.

Azhuang and Black Tiger both sighed in relief, thinking: With the elder brother here, the Sect Master won’t vent his anger on us.

Shui Jingxuan strode gracefully into the hall. When he was close, he cupped his fist and said, ‘Disciple has returned late. Please forgive me, Master.’

‘It’s good that you’re back. Come here, let me see if you’re injured,’ Ji Wushuang reached out, pulled his beloved disciple to sit beside him, and carefully examined him from head to toe, afraid he might have lost something.

Shui Jingxuan was long accustomed to Ji Wushuang’s meticulous care after every battle. He just smiled faintly and let him look.

On the other side, the female Ji Wushuang had dismissed Azhuang and Black Tiger. She turned to the master and disciple and asked in a deep voice, ‘Why did you come back alone? Where is the Wolf Girl? Did you kill Zhuo Yihang?’

Shui Jingxuan immediately straightened up, cupped his fists, and replied, ‘Reporting to the Sect Master, when I chased into the dense forest, I had already lost sight of my senior sister and Zhuo Yihang.

Whether the mission was completed can only be known when my senior sister returns. This subordinate failed in his duty. Please punish me, Sect Master.’

The female Ji Wushuang frowned in dissatisfaction, but before she could speak, Ji Wushuang cut her off, ‘This mission was the Wolf Girl’s responsibility. If it fails, she should bear all the blame. What does it have to do with my disciple?’

The female Ji Wushuang felt helpless. She hadn’t even intended to blame the little Tong, but her younger brother had already eagerly come to protect him.

Still, favoring the little Tong was a hundred times better than favoring the Wolf Girl. Thinking of how her brother had recently gone into qi deviation and tried to force himself on the Wolf Girl, she felt a surge of anger.

Fortunately, the little Tong had arrived in time, preventing the worst from happening. Otherwise, if her brother had gotten the Wolf Girl, she wouldn’t even be able to say a bad word about the Wolf Girl.

Thinking of this, the female Ji Wushuang sighed deeply and waved her hand, ‘I’m not blaming you. You’ve worked hard tonight. Go and rest.

Tell the servants to wait at the entrance. If they see the Wolf Girl, have her come to me immediately for a report.’ The siblings were still very concerned about Zhuo Yihang’s fate.

Shui Jingxuan acknowledged the order, bowed, and withdrew. Outside the Meeting Hall, he turned back to look at the flickering orange lamplight inside.

Frowning slightly, he shook his head slightly. Tonight, things were far from over. Once the Wolf Girl returned, the Demon Sect’s most turbulent and chaotic period would begin.

Having just returned to his quarters to freshen up, he was blocked by a servant of Ji Wushuang who insisted that he go to the Sect Master to report.

After a moment’s hesitation, the Wolf Girl gritted her teeth and strode toward the Meeting Hall. Her back carried a trace of determination and resolve.

Shui Jingxuan stepped out from the shadows at the sect entrance and silently watched her back for a long time. He shook his head with a long sigh.
