Chapter 41: The Massacre at Wudang

A dark hall disciple rushed into the meeting hall, reporting to the Sect Master that the Left Protector had left the sect along with the Right Protector. The news caused both of them to change color.

“What did you say? Xiao Tong actually left with Wolf Girl? Hmph! I told you not to let him see her! That vixen is the best at bewitching people!”

Ji Wushuang’s twin sister immediately flew into a rage, but she directed all her anger at Wolf Girl, unwilling to reproach Xiao Tong even once.

Ji Wushuang’s neck bulged with veins, and a trace of blood light slid through his eyes. He was clearly struggling to suppress his fury.

“Did the Left Protector leave any message?” He tried to maintain a semblance of calm on the surface, but inside, his rage blazed like wildfire, burning his very core.

“In reply, Sect Master, the Left Protector said he would return as soon as he saw Wolf Girl off. From what this subordinate observed, they seemed to be heading toward Wudang.” The disciple cupped his hands in reply. He looked as though he wanted to say more, but hesitated for a moment before lowering his head.

“Beg to report, Sect Master, it wasn’t the Left Protector who spoke, but the Right Protector. She said…” The disciple paused, then finally gritted his teeth and continued,

“She said that the Left Protector is merely a tool for your revenge. Once you achieve vengeance, his extraordinary talent and peerless martial arts will become your greatest threat, and you will surely find a way to eliminate him. She wanted to persuade the Left Protector to leave with her.”

The Sect Master was ruthless and merciless, killing without blinking. Wolf Girl’s words were not without reason. The dark guard pondered, feeling the Sect Master’s suddenly erupting, fierce aura. Cold sweat soaked the back of his inner shirt.

“What a Wolf Girl! She’s even learned to sow discord! If she takes Xiao Tong away, it will all be your fault, little brother! I told you long ago to kill her! But you always soften when faced with her!” Ji Wushuang’s twin sister’s chest heaved violently with rage, her voice growing shriller as she vented her anger on her brother.

Ji Wushuang’s face was already twisted, his expression ferocious. Losing control of his emotions, his internal energy poured out, enveloping them in a thin layer of white mist that blurred their figures until they were barely visible.

Only the world’s top experts could form such a protective barrier of externalized energy. Even a grandmaster like Immortal Ziyang could not hope to match it. Seeing this, the dark guard’s eyes filled with fervent worship.

Ji Wushuang’s heart was a mix of rage and fear. Rage because he had mercifully spared Wolf Girl, yet she had incited his disciple to betray him. Fear because if his disciple believed Wolf Girl’s words, he would surely misunderstand and become estranged, and eventually leave him.

Thinking of his disciple leaving him as resolutely as Wolf Girl had, never to be seen again, Ji Wushuang closed his eyes. It felt as if his heart had been ripped from his chest and torn to pieces.

He gasped for breath, then suddenly raised his head and let out a mournful cry. After Wolf Girl’s betrayal, his fear of losing his beloved disciple had not dissipated; it had only been buried deep in his heart. But the more he suppressed his feelings, the more they devoured him when they erupted.

The mournful cry, carrying his powerful inner force, blasted the dark guard several zhang away. The guard landed, spat blood, and fell unconscious. Even Ji Wushuang’s twin sister, who could match him in internal energy, felt dizzy and her heart ached.

“Disciple, come back! How could I bear to kill you? How could I… Nonsense! It’s all nonsense!” He stopped crying, shouting hoarsely as he smashed the furnishings in the meeting hall with his palms. His hair was disheveled, his appearance manic.

“Little brother, that’s enough! This is no time to go crazy. Hurry up and chase after Xiao Tong to explain! And this time, I must kill that b*tch Wolf Girl! Don’t stop me!”

Ji Wushuang’s twin sister used a weight-dropping technique to hold back her manic brother, urging him repeatedly.

“Right, I have to bring my disciple back!” Ji Wushuang stopped his fierce palm strikes, murmuring, “And kill Wolf Girl, kill Zhuo Yihang, kill Ziyang, kill all of Wudang!”

“Killing Wolf Girl outright would be too easy. I want to make her and Zhuo Yihang enemies, so she won’t have peace even in death! Hahaha!” Ji Wushuang’s twin sister’s expression was venomous, her laughter shrill.

As soon as she thought of it, she acted. She threw on a white cloak, veiled her face with thin silk, grabbed a long whip, and under her brother’s repeated urgings, sped off toward Wudang.

Wreathed in aura, their figures were extremely blurred. At a glance, the white silhouette drifted like a ghost, a striking resemblance to Wolf Girl.

Just after they left, Shui Jingxuan—who had seen Wolf Girl halfway and then turned back—entered the sect.

Hearing that the Sect Master had raged in the meeting hall, severely wounded a dark guard, and then left in haste, his eyes darkened. A sudden unease stirred in his heart.

Suppressing the urge to chase after them, Shui Jingxuan lightly touched his toes and sped toward the cold pool deep in the valley. He plunged into the water, closed his eyes, and expelled all distracting thoughts.

Ji Wushuang lived up to his name—his martial arts were unmatched in the world. Even with their conjoined body, their lightness skill was unparalleled.

They arrived at Wudang even earlier than Wolf Girl, who had left the demon sect half an hour earlier.

Without greeting anyone, the twins began a massacre. The Poison Demon Art was inherently sinister, and when its practitioner lost emotional control and fell into a mania, its power multiplied.

Though Wolf Girl had been severely injured when she betrayed the sect, grief and fury still allowed her to fight a hundred enemies and defeat Zhuo Yihang.

When Immortal Ziyang received the news and arrived, what he saw was utter devastation. The scene was horrifying.

Ziyang was shocked. He raised his sword, but Ji Wushuang caught it barehanded, easily deflecting the blade. The flesh palm meeting cold steel produced a metallic clang, showing the depth of Ji Wushuang’s power.

The longer Ziyang fought, the more alarmed and uncertain he became.

“Hahaha! Ziyang, you Daoist trickster! Do you still remember how you humiliated my master? Today, I will make you pay a hundredfold, a thousandfold!”

Ji Wushuang’s twin sister spoke in Wolf Girl’s tone, then laughed uproariously. Suddenly, she raised her whip and lashed it fiercely toward Ziyang.

The Shadowless Whip lived up to its name. Before Ziyang could even see the shadow of the strike, it had coiled around his neck and hoisted him high above the main hall of Ziyang Temple.

The whip was forged from the skin of a golden viper, tempered by a top expert’s Samadhi True Fire. It was impervious to inner force and resistant to blades.

No matter how Ziyang struggled, it was useless. After half an incense stick of time, his legs twitched violently, and he finally closed his eyes in defeat.

Seeing Ziyang dead, Ji Wushuang immediately searched the various temples for Wolf Girl and his disciple. Failing to find them, he realized he might have arrived too early—they were still on the way.

Fearing that turning back might cause him to miss his disciple, Ji Wushuang forcibly suppressed his urgent desire to see him. He leaped onto a beam in Ziyang Temple and waited in stillness.

The battle with Ziyang was brief, and their figures too blurred. A dying disciple lying in a pile of corpses heard Ji Wushuang’s twin sister’s deliberately misleading words and saw her white-robed, ghostly form.

He concluded that Wolf Girl had come for revenge. In his heart, he vowed that when Immortal Baiyun and his senior disciple returned, they would tear Wolf Girl to pieces.

Meanwhile, Zhuo Yihang waited in the water cave for Wolf Girl, but she never came. Instead, he was found by Immortal Baiyun and He Luhua’s group.

After much persuasion, he agreed to return and explain things to Immortal Ziyang in person. But when they pushed open Wudang’s gates, what they saw was a field of corpses.

Their faces changed drastically. Suppressing their grief, they searched for survivors to find out the truth. Finally, in Ziyang Temple’s main hall, they found the survivor Ji Wushuang had deliberately left alive.

The man spoke intermittently: “It… it was Wolf Girl.” With those words, he tilted his head and died.

Immortal Baiyun and He Luhua’s eyes burned with fury; their hatred for Wolf Girl knew no bounds. Zhuo Yihang couldn’t believe it at first, but when he saw Ziyang hanging from a whip in the main hall, he could no longer bear the guilt and grief. He covered his face and wept.

Upon seeing Wolf Girl, Immortal Baiyun loudly denounced her crimes while attacking with his sword, each strike lethal. Zhuo Yihang hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward to separate them.

But He Luhua seized the opportunity to stab Wolf Girl in the chest. He Luhua herself was sent flying by Wolf Girl’s palm wind, then pinned to the gate of Ziyang Temple by Wolf Girl’s sword, dying a gruesome death.

Zhuo Yihang was overcome with rage and grief, and finally clashed with Wolf Girl. But at the last moment, Wolf Girl suddenly dropped her guard, allowing his sword to pierce her heart.

Betrayed and hurt by the one she loved most, Wolf Girl stared at the sword embedded in her chest, her black hair turning white inch by inch.

When he saw Wolf Girl enter the temple, Ji Wushuang could barely restrain himself from leaping down to demand his disciple. But his twin sister stopped him.

“Little brother, Xiao Tong didn’t come in with her. He must have returned to the sect. There’s no rush to placate him. Let’s kill Wolf Girl and the remnants of Wudang first.” She transmitted her voice to him.

“I can’t wait any longer.” Just thinking about how his disciple might misunderstand him made Ji Wushuang burn with anxiety.

“Wolf Girl tried so hard to drive a wedge between you and Xiao Tong, and even urged him to leave you. Are you really going to let her off so easily?” Ji Wushuang’s twin sister glared, her voice cold.

She knew that Xiao Tong, with his brilliant mind and unwavering heart, would never easily believe Wolf Girl’s nonsense.

So she wasn’t at all worried about Xiao Tong becoming estranged. But she hadn’t expected her brother to be so obsessed with Xiao Tong that his worry clouded his judgment, making him lose all composure.

A flash of inspiration struck. Rather than trying to console her brother, she used words to provoke him, urging him to go out with her to destroy Wolf Girl.

Ji Wushuang’s twin sister was fierce and couldn’t tolerate Wolf Girl’s survival. She was also tired of the tedious back-and-forth battles with the eight great sects. A direct attack on Wudang, wiping out Wolf Girl and the entire sect, was more to her taste.

True enough, Ji Wushuang listened to her words, his rage blazing and his aura swelling. He coldly glared down at Wolf Girl and the others, his blood-red eyes filled with intense killing intent.

His disciple was his very life—no one could take him away! All who tried to separate his disciple from him must die!

When Wolf Girl’s hair turned white, she fully succumbed to the demonic path, forced the sword out of her chest, and sent Zhuo Yihang flying with a palm strike. Ji Wushuang could no longer hold back his killing intent. He leaped down from the beam, charging at Zhuo Yihang and Wolf Girl.
