Chapter 44: A Dangerous Remedy

On the bed, Ji Wushuang, deep in a coma, still unconsciously called out for his disciple. Though his voice was barely discernible, everyone in the room was a master of profound cultivation—how could they fail to hear?

The elders saw their Sect Master so stubbornly obsessed even after being reduced to this state by the Wolf Girl, and they couldn’t help but feel a sense of disappointment, as if he were a block of iron that refused to become steel.

Shui Jingxuan’s face had long since darkened. His gaze at Ji Wushuang was like a sharp blade; he wished he could slice open his master’s mind, scoop out all memories of the Wolf Girl, and burn them to ashes.

“Master, the Wolf Girl is gone. She won’t come back. No matter how much you yearn for her, it’s useless.” Shui Jingxuan gripped Ji Wushuang’s large hand, leaned close to his ear, and whispered,

“Forget her. From now on, your disciple will be with you.”

As if those final words had an effect, Ji Wushuang stopped murmuring. Even in his coma, his tightly furrowed brow relaxed, revealing a calm and peaceful expression.

Seeing that he had quieted down, Shui Jingxuan watched him for a while longer, tucked the blanket around him, then rose to arrange the funeral for Ji Wushuang’s twin sister.

The elders dared not disturb the deep bond between the Left Protector and the Sect Master; they all stood waiting at the door. When Shui Jingxuan came out, Elder Mu, pushed forward by the group, stepped up and spoke in a low voice:

“Left Protector, the Sect Master still cannot let go of the Wolf Girl. When he wakes and learns that she did not elope with someone else but instead massacred the seven sects, he will surely still hold a flame for her and go to her aid. That would be a great disaster for our clan.”

Moved by the Left Protector’s plan, they only wanted to protect their people, to let the clan live in prosperity before seeking revenge.

Naturally, they did not wish for the Sect Master to act stubbornly upon waking and drag the demon sect into the bloody storms of the martial world.

Wudang had been destroyed. To avoid repeating Wudang’s fate, the seven sects had already united into an iron block, deeply rooted, numerous and powerful.

The demon cult could not contend with them. At that point, the cult might once again suffer the pain of annihilation. The mere thought of making such a great sacrifice for a woman who had abandoned her clan filled the elders with righteous indignation!

Hearing this, Shui Jingxuan’s face darkened. He waved his hand and said, “I understand. My master is still in a coma; it doesn’t matter. Issue orders that no one is to mention the Wolf Girl. When he wakes, assign several shadow guards to watch him.”

Shui Jingxuan’s proposal was only a temporary measure—at most, it could delay Ji Wushuang for two or three days, but not stop him forever. Thinking of this, Shui Jingxuan was also annoyed. He said in a deep voice, “I know this is just a stalling tactic. I will return and ponder carefully to find a foolproof solution.”

The elders knew this was a difficult matter. Seeing the Left Protector’s troubled expression, they did not dare disturb him further and withdrew to prepare the funeral for the female Sect Master.

At that moment, the High Priest, who was the last to leave, hesitated in his steps. He lowered his head in thought, then finally turned back, cupped his fists toward Shui Jingxuan, and said, “Left Protector, I have a method, but I’m not sure if I should speak.”

Shui Jingxuan glanced at him and walked toward the remote courtyard where the High Priest lived, saying as he went,

“If there’s a way, it’s worth a try. It’s better than having my master drag the entire clan down to be buried with the Wolf Girl after he wakes.

It’s not convenient to talk here; we’ll speak in private.” He knew that since the High Priest had avoided the elders to report to him alone, the method must be somewhat unorthodox and not suitable for public discussion.

The High Priest quickly nodded and followed closely behind the Left Protector. He was a man secretly promoted by the Left Protector, so he was naturally obliged to share his worries.

Moreover, the Left Protector had broad knowledge, astonishing ideas, and had given him much inspiration in medicine, deepening his understanding of the medical path.

He already regarded the Left Protector as a divine being. As long as he could help, he didn’t care even if it meant being disrespectful to the Sect Master.

The two entered the courtyard. Shui Jingxuan sat down in the hall, and the High Priest served him tea, then went into the pharmacy and brought out an exquisite pink bottle.

“You want to poison my master?” Shui Jingxuan narrowed his phoenix eyes at the bottle, his tone extremely hostile, as if he would kill the High Priest on the spot if he answered yes.

“This subordinate would never dare!” The High Priest knew how much the Left Protector cared for his master, so he quickly stepped forward to explain in fear,

“Left Protector, this bottle does not contain poison, but a kind of narcotic that can erase all memories of a person’s beloved from their mind.

I thought that if we give this medicine to the Sect Master, make him forget the Wolf Girl, then you wouldn’t have to worry, and the clan wouldn’t be implicated.”

Erase memories? The High Priest’s words struck deep into Shui Jingxuan’s heart. His eyes flickered. He took the bottle and examined it closely, then slowly spoke, his tone now devoid of earlier hostility:

“Can you be sure of its efficacy? Will it harm my master’s body after consumption?”

Seeing the Left Protector waver, the High Priest secretly wiped his sweat and replied respectfully,

“Left Protector, this medicine is very effective. I have tested it on many people, and there are no errors. It only causes a headache at the moment of ingestion, and afterwards, it does no harm to the body.”

The newly appointed High Priest was also a medical fanatic. In his spare time, he loved to study pharmacology and could always concoct strange things with outstanding effects.

Therefore, Shui Jingxuan valued his words. He toyed with the medicine bottle—both for public and private reasons, there was no reason not to use it.

“Find a pair of lovers from the cult and bring them here. I want to personally test the effects.” He lifted his chin and ordered the High Priest.

The High Priest acknowledged and withdrew.

Even the usually composed Left Protector felt a bit nervous, not knowing where to put his hands and feet. However, the two lovers, after a brief look at each other, quickly regained their composure and saluted Shui Jingxuan steadily. From this, it was evident that they were deeply in love.

Shui Jingxuan observed their expressions, confirming their relationship. Without warning, he grabbed the woman closer to him and poured the contents of the bottle into her mouth.

The man who had come with her, not understanding what was happening, was horrified and could only kneel and beg bitterly.

In a flash, the woman suddenly clutched her head and screamed in agony. After a harsh cry, she looked up with disheveled hair.

All the tenderness she had shown upon entering was gone, replaced by coldness and distance. When the man tried to grasp her shoulders to comfort her, she showed shame and anger, avoiding him as if he were a venomous snake.

Seeing this, Shui Jingxuan curled his lips and pointed at the man, slowly speaking:

“It works indeed! It’s a pity for these lovers. Since the woman has forgotten him, it would be crueler for him to carry the memory alone. Better for both to forget.”

Having come from the apocalypse, Shui Jingxuan could always perfectly blend mercy and cruelty.

The High Priest nodded, took out another bottle of the medicine, seized the man who was now trembling and trying to flee, pried open his jaw, and poured the potion down his throat.

Similarly, after a heart-wrenching scream with his head in his hands, the man woke up completely forgetting the woman. They had entered loving and affectionate, but left as strangers.

Shui Jingxuan watched the unfamiliar and distant pair walk away, then leisurely rose and headed toward Ji Wushuang’s courtyard. The High Priest picked up the medicine bottles and followed behind.

Sitting by Ji Wushuang’s bed, Shui Jingxuan narrowed his phoenix eyes, reached out to gently stroke his master’s deep, handsome features, tracing every line of his face. After a long while, he reluctantly withdrew his hand, looked at the High Priest waiting respectfully at the side, and extended his fair palm.

Shui Jingxuan uncorked the bottle, leaned close to Ji Wushuang’s ear, and spoke with a soft, smiling voice:

“Master, how about your disciple makes you forget the one you love? It doesn’t matter if you lose a part of your memory—later, your disciple will create memories belonging to both of us!”

After saying this, he paused. Seeing Ji Wushuang slightly shake his head, as if struggling to wake from his coma, he chuckled softly and said, “Heh, since master doesn’t speak, it means you agree. Then your disciple will overstep.”

With that, he immediately pried open Ji Wushuang’s lips and poured the entire bottle of medicine down his throat, not a drop spilled.

The High Priest beside him, seeing the Left Protector’s decisive and swift action, couldn’t help but wipe the cold sweat from his forehead, thinking: ‘Left Protector, just how much do you want the Sect Master to forget the Wolf Girl to be so eager!’

After the potion entered his stomach, even in his coma, Ji Wushuang felt a sharp pain in his head. He couldn’t help but twist his head and groan. His furrowed brow and clenched jaw betrayed his agony.

Shui Jingxuan immediately pulled Ji Wushuang’s head into his arms, continuously stroking his cheek, and whispered in a low voice, “It’s okay, the pain will pass soon… Just forget the Wolf Girl! Remembering me is enough!”

The High Priest also watched the Sect Master’s expression nervously, fearing an accident. Fortunately, after a short while, Ji Wushuang stopped struggling and groaning, and his face returned to calm.

“Please rest assured, Left Protector. The Sect Master is fine.” The High Priest took Ji Wushuang’s pulse and spoke to the Left Protector, who was watching him intently.

“Very good.” Shui Jingxuan nodded, covered Ji Wushuang with the blanket, and walked out of the room with his hands behind his back, saying as he went,

“Today’s matter is known only to you and me, heaven and earth. Do you understand?” He didn’t care what others thought of him, but he didn’t want Ji Wushuang to know the truth and resent him. This matter must be buried forever in their hearts.

The High Priest’s expression turned fearful. He quickly raised his hand and swore an oath never to reveal the secret.

The High Priest was stunned for a moment, then responded with considerable pride: “Left Protector, this medicine can make one forget love, so I named it ‘Forgetfulness Water.'”

‘Forgetfulness Water’? Shui Jingxuan’s mouth twitched. He gave the High Priest a strange look and slowly said,

“Although the effect of Forgetfulness Water is unique, it’s not very useful. Why not improve the formula to create a potion that erases all memories? If you add some hallucinogenic ingredients to the potion, having people become confused and then believe in fabricated memories, wouldn’t that be even better?”

The High Priest stared blankly, then suddenly had an epiphany. He slapped his thigh and exclaimed, “Brilliant, Left Protector!” Then, without even taking his leave, he ran off like the wind.

Shui Jingxuan watched his retreating back, narrowed his phoenix eyes, and thought to himself: ‘Such mind-controlling drugs—I must have the High Priest develop several more varieties.

That way, when mining for gold, we can be more secure, without worrying about someone leaking secrets and inviting disaster.’
