Join the ServerShi Yanzhou fell silent.
He actually knew that Shi Kezhen must be waiting for him downstairs at his dormitory building again.
Based on his understanding of her over all these years, if he didn’t return to the dormitory tonight, she would definitely wait for him the entire night.
This was true even though he had firmly told her many times not to wait for him and not to interfere in his business.
Yet, every time she would nod obediently in agreement, and then every time, she would continue to do as she pleased and wait for him anyway.
Shi Yanzhou didn’t like Shi Kezhen; he was very certain of that.
But occasionally, at certain moments, she inevitably made him feel a slight twinge of guilt.
It wasn’t heartache, but more like… an annoyance stemming from a feeling that he owed her something.
He pulled back his thoughts and said calmly.
“We’ve been out playing all day, let’s just head back to school.”
Upon hearing this, Li Yunshu’s smile instantly vanished.
She pushed him away angrily.
Her voice shifted from acting spoiled to a sharp question.
“Is it because that sister of yours just called you that you’re rushing back to school?”
“No…”
“You keep saying you only see her as a sister.”
“If you truly have a clear conscience, prove it to me!”
Shi Yanzhou surrendered helplessly.
“How do you want me to prove it?”
“Don’t go back tonight.”
“…”
“Yes or no?”
Looking at her face flushed with anger, Shi Yanzhou nodded helplessly.
“Fine, fine, fine, we won’t go back.”
“Is that alright?”
Li Yunshu let out a “hmph.”
“That’s more like it.”
Since the two of them weren’t returning to school, the other two couples who had come out to play with them sensibly decided not to keep playing the third wheel and headed back early.
The group left the billiards club together.
Shi Yanzhou and Li Yunshu headed to a hotel, while the other four returned to school.
Just as they entered the hotel room, Shi Kezhen’s call came in again.
Li Yunshu snatched his phone away, hung up, turned it off completely, and tossed it onto the sofa.
She hooked her arms around Shi Yanzhou’s neck, pressing her lips against his earlobe.
“Now… no one will disturb us.”
Shi Yanzhou lowered his head to kiss her, wrapping his arms around her waist as the temperature in the room began to rise.
The constraints on their bodies were discarded one by one, and the passion of the deep night thoroughly ignited.
***
Downstairs at the Jingda boys’ dormitory.
Shi Kezhen stood under a streetlamp opposite the dormitory doors.
She looked down at the call that had been hung up again and checked the time.
It was already 10:50 PM; in another ten minutes, curfew would begin.
She dialed Shi Yanzhou’s number once more.
This time, a cold automated voice came through the phone.
“Hello, the number you dialed is powered off.”
“Please try again later…”
Expressionless, she ended the call, opened WeChat, and began typing.
Kezhen: [Yanzhou, haven’t you returned to school yet? It’s ten minutes until curfew.]
Kezhen: [Yanzhou, staying off-campus at night isn’t safe. If it isn’t necessary, you should come back to school.]
After sending these two WeChat messages, they sank like stones into the ocean, just as she had expected.
Watching the time, it had already ticked to 10:51 PM.
She continued to stand quietly under the streetlamp, her face devoid of any expression.
Inwardly, however, she was thinking.
‘Nine more minutes until I’m free.’
‘Could time pass a little faster?’
‘I’ve been standing for nearly two hours, and my feet are so sore…’
She actually didn’t care whether Shi Yanzhou came back or not, nor did she care who he was with or what he was doing.
She simply had to complete these two steps; she had to put on a show here.
First, she had to call and message him so that the record of her showing concern for him would remain on her phone.
Second, she had to stand openly beneath his dormitory building waiting for him, letting everyone know that she was truly, very, concerned about him!
She waited, she fulfilled her duty, and her conscience was clear.
If Shi Yanzhou ever got into trouble again, and Mother Shi demanded accountability, these would serve as her evidence.
When the time jumped to 10:56 PM, two boys walked toward the dormitory together and noticed Shi Kezhen standing under the streetlamp.
They exchanged glances before stepping forward to greet her.
“Shi Kezhen, are you waiting for Yanzhou?”
Shi Kezhen glanced at the two and recognized them both as Shi Yanzhou’s roommates.
The one with slightly darker skin and a bit of weight was named Liu Guang.
The other, who was taller, thinner, and looked scholarly, was named Zhang Xin.
She nodded slightly.
“Mm, I’m waiting for him.”
Liu Guang hesitated for a moment but still spoke up.
“Stop waiting.”
“He’s not coming back to school tonight.”
Shi Kezhen nodded.
“Mm, thank you.”
“I understand.”
Seeing her continue to stand motionless, Liu Guang repeated himself.
“He’s really not coming back tonight.”
“He’s with Li Yunshu.”
“You should head back.”
“Don’t wait for him anymore.”
Shi Kezhen nodded.
“Okay.”
But after saying that, she remained standing there motionless, showing not the slightest intention of leaving.
Liu Guang opened his mouth to say something more, but ultimately just shrugged.
He had already warned her.
If she wanted to keep waiting here, then let her wait.
The two said goodbye to her, turned around, and walked into the dormitory, leaving her be.
Shi Kezhen glanced at the time.
10:58 PM.
Almost there.
Just hang on for two more minutes.
At that moment, a few more people rushed back to the dormitory right before curfew.
Hearing the footsteps, she instinctively looked up.
In the dim yellow light of the streetlamp, three silhouettes walked side by side.
They were tall with long legs, their steps casual yet exuding an undeniable aura.
What a coincidence.
It was actually Gao Cheng and his friends.
As she looked at them, the three of them all turned to look at her simultaneously.
Shi Kezhen’s expression remained completely unchanged—neither avoiding them, nor shying away, nor showing any warmth.
