Chapter 47: Your Wife Isn’t a Reasonable Person

After walking out of the Business School, Shi Kezhen headed straight back to her dormitory.

The dorm was very quiet, as none of her roommates were there.

Her three roommates were also in the Business Administration Department, but they were not in the same class as her.

Moreover, their elective courses were completely different, so their class schedules did not align.

On Monday afternoons, Shi Kezhen had only one class, whereas her roommates had two.

Unless they decided to skip class as well, she would be completely alone in the dorm until 5:30 PM.

First, she took out a set of cotton pajamas and changed into them.

Although the pajamas also had long sleeves and pants, they were far more pleasing to the eye than the nun-like, conservative outfit she had been wearing.

After changing, she climbed into bed, took out her Bluetooth earphones, and connected them to her phone.

With everything prepared, she switched the operating system to the Privacy Space and opened Cheng’s WeChat.

She typed a few words: ‘Hubby, are you free now? I can video call now.’

Just as she was about to send it, her finger paused.

A mischievous smile curved on her lips.

She deleted all the words she had typed and sent a video call request directly.

Inside the tiered lecture hall for Finance Class 1 in the Business School.

Gao Cheng, who was listening attentively to the professor’s lecture, suddenly felt his phone vibrating in his pocket.

He pulled out his phone and saw that it was a video call request from Yao.

He let out a silent, helpless smile.

This little ancestor really knew how to pick her timing.

He declined the call and quickly typed: ‘Wifey, I’m in class, wait for me…’

Yet before he could finish typing, several messages barrage-fired from the other side.

– Yao: [You actually dared to decline my video call! I’m mad! The kind that can’t be coaxed!]

– Yao: [#This princess is angry#]

– Yao: [#Hmph#]

– Yao: [#This princess is angry and the consequences are dire#]

Gao Cheng stared at his phone, caught between tears and laughter.

Although he knew she was mostly pretending, he also knew that once she got angry, she was genuinely hard to coax.

He looked up at the graying Professor Lin on the podium, nudged Jiang Chengshuo next to him with his elbow, and whispered in a low voice.

“I have something to do, so I’m leaving first; take my books back to the dorm for me.”

Jiang Chengshuo’s eyes widened, and he hurriedly grabbed him.

“This is Professor Lin’s class!”

Professor Lin was famous throughout the Business School for his strictness; nobody dared skip his class, and his course had the highest fail rate in the entire department.

Gao Cheng brushed his hand away, not even bothering to pack up his open textbook and notebook on the desk.

Taking advantage of Professor Lin turning his back to write on the blackboard, he hunched his back, ducked low, and slipped quietly out through the back door.

Jiang Chengshuo watched his retreating back, sighed, and ultimately just shook his head.

After slipping out of the classroom and walking a short distance away, Gao Cheng returned the video call request as he walked.

Less than two minutes had passed since he had declined her call.

[The other party declined your video call request.]

Gao Cheng raised an eyebrow and sent it again.

[The other party declined your video call request.]

Speechless, Gao Cheng stopped in his tracks and started typing.

– Cheng: [?]

– Yao: [!]

– Cheng: [What is the meaning of this?]

– Yao: [Didn’t I tell you? I’m angry, the kind that can’t be coaxed.]

– Cheng: […]

– Yao: [#Blehh#]

It was a cute, comical sticker of a short-legged pet sticking out its tongue.

Amused to the point of laughter, Gao Cheng took a deep breath and continued typing.

– Cheng: [Wifey, I was in class just now. Was I supposed to video call you right in front of the professor?]

– Yao: [It’s not like you couldn’t.]

– Cheng: [Wifey, be reasonable.]

– Yao: [I won’t. Your wife isn’t a reasonable person.]

– Cheng: […]

– Yao: [#Eye roll#]

– Cheng: [The second I declined your call, I snuck out of the classroom. Look at the time yourself; it hasn’t even been two minutes.]

– Yao: [Are you asking for praise?]

– Cheng: [I wouldn’t dare. As long as my wifey isn’t angry, that’s enough.]

– Yao: [Fine then, I’m not angry anymore.]

Gao Cheng breathed a sigh of relief and immediately sent another video call request.

[The other party declined your video call request.]

– Cheng: [Didn’t you say you weren’t angry anymore?]

– Yao: [I’m not angry anymore, but you dared to hang up on me, so I have to punish you. Your punishment is no video call today.]

– Cheng: [Wifey!!!]

– Yao: [What of it???]

– Cheng: [Spare me. Next time, no matter what happens, I will never hang up on you again.]

– Yao: [Your attitude in admitting your mistake is decent. The death penalty is waived, but punishment cannot be avoided; your punishment is still no video call today.]

– Cheng: [………………..]

Gao Cheng laughed in exasperation, unleashing the hand speed he used to dominate the gaming rift as his fingers flew across the screen.

– Cheng: [Have you ever counted how many times you’ve declined my video call requests?]

– Cheng: [Did I ever complain?]

– Cheng: [Have I ever gotten mad at you once?]

– Cheng: [Every time I message you, how long does it take for you to reply? Sometimes waiting for a single text from you takes days.]

– Cheng: [I only declined your call once.]

– Cheng: [Just this once.]

– Cheng: [And I called you back within two minutes.]

– Cheng: [On top of that, this major course is very important, and no one dares to skip this professor’s class.]

– Cheng: [Yet for you, I skipped it without hesitation.]

– Cheng: [And this is how you repay me?]

– Cheng: [Life is not worth it.]

– Cheng: [#My heart is chilly#]

“Giggle, giggle…”

Staring at the long stream of messages arriving one after another, Shi Kezhen held her phone in one hand and covered her mouth with the other, her shoulders trembling with laughter.

Feeling that if she teased him any further, Cheng might genuinely get mad, she smiled and directly sent a video call request.

He answered in a split second.

On the phone screen appeared the chest of a young man wearing a black T-shirt.

Because he held the phone somewhat close, the surrounding background was obscured, but it was clear he was outdoors.

– “Wifey.”

His voice carried a deliberate, slightly exaggerated grievance.

“Giggle, giggle…”

Shi Kezhen was amused even further by him, covering her mouth as she laughed non-stop, realizing she hadn’t been this happy in a long time.

It felt as though the despair of the past two weeks had turned considerably brighter thanks to this moment of good spirits.

– “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

Gao Cheng’s tone sounded like he was gritting his teeth, yet the corners of his lips curved upward uncontrollably at the sound of her laughter.

Having finally had her fill of laughing, Shi Kezhen coaxed him with a lingering chuckle.

– “Alright, alright, I was just teasing you.”

Looking at his screen, Gao Cheng saw only a bed curtain, and he couldn’t help expressing his dissatisfaction.

– “We haven’t seen each other in two weeks. What are you showing me? Where are you?”

Although they had video called briefly last night, Shi Kezhen had turned off all the lights in her room back then, leaving the screen pitch black so he couldn’t see a thing.

Shi Kezhen tapped the screen, flipped the camera toward herself, and said:

– “I’m right here. Can you see me?”

– “Yeah, I see you.”

She was leaning back against the pillow with her long hair draped over her shoulders, wearing cotton pajamas buttoned all the way to the very top.

Looking at the conservative cotton pajamas she wore, Gao Cheng recalled having seen them many times before without thinking much of it.

However, ever since seeing her wear the lace camisole nightgown, these pajamas had become somewhat displeasing to his eye.

– “Wifey, where’s your lace camisole nightgown? Why aren’t you wearing it?”

Over the past two weeks, Shi Kezhen had lost a dramatic amount of weight.

Whenever she looked in the mirror, she couldn’t help frowning in self-disdain, seeing herself as nothing but skin and bones, looking utterly ghastly.

Before gaining her weight back, she had no intention of wearing that revealing nightgown again.

However, she couldn’t tell him that.

Shi Kezhen casually made up an excuse.

– “I left it at home; I didn’t bring it to school.”

In reality, aside from the weekend she had bought it and brought it to the Shi residence, the nightgown had stayed in her dorm room the entire time.

If it had been kept at the Shi house, Butler He would have definitely found it when he led the search of her room.

If Mother Shi found out she owned such an exposed, sexy lace nightgown, she would undoubtedly monitor her even more strictly.

After all, Mother Shi was terrified that her nameless, status-less daughter-in-law would put a green hat on her son.
