Join the ServerCurious, Shi Kezhen looked up toward the entrance of the cafeteria.
Three tall, strikingly handsome young men walked in side by side.
Each of them stood out in his own way, but the one in the middle, dressed in a plain white T-shirt, was impossible to ignore.
He was well over six feet tall, with a lean, upright frame.
A simple white T-shirt and casual trousers only made him look effortlessly clean and relaxed.
His slightly messy black hair lent him an air of lazy indifference.
His cool, fair complexion contrasted with his sharp, refined features, which were handsome without being delicate.
There was a casual aloofness in his eyes and brows, giving him an untamed, carefree charm that was both lazy and irresistibly attractive.
The kind of rugged good looks that looked flawless from every angle.
It was obvious that the waves of excited chatter sweeping through the cafeteria had all been caused by the arrival of the three of them.
The moment Shi Kezhen recognized them, she understood.
They were Jingzhou University’s famously unrivaled trio of campus heartthrobs—the kind who could cause traffic jams just by walking down the street.
Her gaze lingered for only a moment before she lowered her head and continued eating her dinner.
Her movements didn’t change.
Her breathing remained steady.
Even the rhythm of her chopsticks never faltered.
She had long since ceased to belong to herself.
Handsome men and campus idols had nothing to do with her.
After entering the cafeteria, Gao Cheng and his two friends paid little attention to the commotion surrounding them.
Standing still, Gao Cheng calmly swept his eyes across the room before choosing a seat by the window.
Meanwhile, Jiang Chengshuo and Jiang Zhexi headed to the serving line without needing to be told.
It was still early, so there weren’t many people lining up.
The two quickly returned carrying three dinner trays.
The moment they sat down, Jiang Chengshuo eagerly asked, “Have you found her? Which one is she?”
Gao Cheng shot him a glance.
“Keep your voice down.”
“Do you want the entire university to find out I have an online girlfriend?”
“Okay, okay.”
Jiang Chengshuo immediately lowered his voice and began looking around as well.
“There aren’t that many people eating yet, but there are still quite a few.”
“Especially girls.”
“They make up most of the crowd.”
Jiang Zhexi scanned the cafeteria too, frowning slightly.
“That’s not the main issue.”
“The problem is… none of the girls here really stand out.”
His tone carried a hint of disappointment.
“If she’s too ordinary-looking, it’d honestly be better if you never met in person.”
Gao Cheng turned his head and looked at him with obvious disdain.
“Judging people by their appearance?”
“What kind of values are those?”
Jiang Zhexi snorted and returned him an equally disdainful look.
“Oh, please.”
“Not a single girl has ever caught your eye since you were a kid.”
“And you’re saying you don’t judge people by looks?”
Too lazy to argue, Gao Cheng picked up his chopsticks and casually took a bite of food.
After chewing a few times, he frowned.
He picked up another dish, chewed again, and his brows furrowed even deeper.
He set his chopsticks down, having completely lost the desire to eat.
Neither Jiang Chengshuo nor Jiang Zhexi found that surprising.
Out of the three of them, Gao Cheng had by far the pickiest palate.
As the heir to the Gao family, the most prestigious family in Jingzhou, he had grown up using only the finest things and eating only the best food.
The words make do simply didn’t exist in his dictionary.
Besides, they hadn’t come to the cafeteria for the food anyway.
Leaning back against his chair, Gao Cheng leisurely swept his gaze across the female students dining in the cafeteria, examining them one after another.
After eating a few bites themselves, Jiang Chengshuo and Jiang Zhexi also tossed aside their chopsticks and began searching the room for “suspicious” targets.
Jiang Chengshuo looked toward a girl sitting by the window three rows away.
He tilted his chin in her direction and raised an eyebrow.
“There are still a few good-looking ones.”
“Look over there.”
“The girl in the white high-neck long-sleeved top.”
Both Gao Cheng and Jiang Zhexi turned to look.
They spotted the girl immediately.
The reason was simple.
It was already April, and Jingzhou had begun warming up.
Most students had switched to short sleeves.
There were still a few wearing long sleeves.
But someone wearing a high-neck turtleneck…
That was a rare sight indeed.
The girl Jiang Chengshuo was pointing at happened to be none other than Shi Kezhen.
Jiang Zhexi recognized her.
“Oh, her.”
“I know who she is.”
“She’s the Shi family’s adopted daughter.”
“She’s also a second-year student in the School of Business, though she’s in Business Administration, not our Finance department.”
The Shi family was one of the prominent families in Beijing’s elite circles, and the Jiang and Shi families also had business dealings with one another.
Since both of the Shi family’s children attended the same business school, Jiang Zhexi naturally knew a little about them.
Gao Cheng had always been proud and aloof, rarely paying attention to anyone.
Although they were in the same school, they belonged to different classes, so he had never noticed Shi Kezhen before.
Hearing Jiang Zhexi’s explanation, he turned toward him, silently signaling for him to continue.
Lowering his voice, Jiang Zhexi went on,
“All I know is that she’s the Shi family’s adopted daughter.”
“She’s the same age as Shi Yanzhou, and they’re even classmates at university.”
“You often see them coming and going together.”
“But the strange thing is…”
“No one’s ever heard her call Shi Yanzhou ‘big brother.'”
As he reached that point, his tone became noticeably more gossipy.
“So a lot of people think she has feelings for Shi Yanzhou.”
“Shi Yanzhou treats her like a younger sister.”
“But she clearly doesn’t want to be just his little sister.”
Jiang Chengshuo raised an eyebrow.
“But the Shi family probably doesn’t approve of her, right?”
Jiang Zhexi let out a cold laugh.
“Of course they don’t.”
“Let’s not even talk about the rest of the Shi family. Just Shi Yanzhou’s mother alone is obsessed with family status.”
“She probably wouldn’t even look twice at daughters from ordinary wealthy families. So how could she possibly accept an adopted daughter with no family backing?”
“It’s nothing more than wishful thinking. She’s simply chasing an impossible dream.”
