Chapter 16: The Commoner’s Charm

Qichuan Feng carefully wiped the toilet seat clean, then placed some tissues on it before sitting down. Immediately, she couldn’t help but sigh, pressing a hand to her forehead.

“Hah—this is absolutely awful…”

She still couldn’t fathom her earlier lapse in composure.

Driven by fear, she had blurted out all her secrets, even performing a dogeza as if begging for mercy.

Damn it! How utterly humiliating!

“Ugh—”

The mere thought of what had just happened made her clench her teeth in frustration, her face burning with indignation.

“But since I’ve already said it, I can’t let that guy just forget about it…”

She pouted, clearly distressed.

“And it seems that commoner actually has some ability. He even knows how to use talismans… They must be similar to the omamori charms found in shrines, very powerful, it seems.

‘Perhaps… I could rely on that commoner a little?’

The moment the thought surfaced, Qichuan Feng immediately shook her head.

‘Heavens… rely on him?’

‘That’s impossible, no matter how I look at it, right?’

‘Though others often say I’m cute, and no man could refuse me if I acted a little more spoiled like other girls.’

‘But I’ve been so awful to that guy all this time; there’s probably no way to salvage anything now.’

“Wait, no.” Qichuan Feng reconsidered. “That commoner just came to save me, so perhaps…”

‘Perhaps he doesn’t mind my past actions at all?’

‘That can’t be, can it?’

‘But… I do seem to have heard that some people in society don’t get angry even when cute girls have sharp tongues.’

‘Could that commoner be one of those guys with a few screws loose…’

“Mm… mm…”

As she pondered this, Qichuan Feng also tried her best to suppress any indelicate sounds, attempting to keep her movements as quiet as possible so the person outside wouldn’t hear her.

As the daughter of a wealthy family, she had never before been alone in a room with an unfamiliar man.

The feeling made her somewhat afraid, causing her to act with extreme caution.

Moreover, if he were to hear *those* sounds, she felt it would be utterly mortifying!

“Hmph…”

After finishing her private business, she took out some tissue to wipe herself, then tossed it into the toilet. Pulling up her underwear, she habitually pressed the flush handle.

“Whoosh…”

“Huh? There’s water?” A look of surprise and delight appeared on Qichuan Feng’s face. “Perfect, I wanted to wash my hands!”

She then turned on the faucet at the sink. At first, some yellowish-brown residue flowed out, but soon the water turned clear.

Qichuan Feng was overjoyed. Being particular about cleanliness, she had never gone to bed without washing up.

“But the mirror is really dirty.”

Looking at the dust-covered mirror above the sink, she wet a tissue and began to clean it bit by bit.

Girls always liked to look in the mirror when washing their faces, especially cute girls.

However, as Qichuan Feng wiped halfway, her peripheral vision seemed to catch sight of something strange.

In the reflection of the toilet area, there was a blurry black shadow.

She turned her head to look, but found nothing actually there at the toilet.

Yet, when she looked back at the mirror, the black shadow remained.

“What is it? The mirror is so dirty I can’t even clean it properly!” Qichuan Feng complained helplessly. “Home is definitely better… Huh?”

The moment she reached out to cup water, the faucet’s flow gradually diminished, eventually emitting a dry, whimpering sound.

In the pitch-black night, this whimpering sounded like a pitiful woman crying.

“No water?”

Just as Qichuan Feng thought this, the whimpering faucet began to flow again.

But this time, what flowed out… was black water.

The black water, accompanied by hair-like strands, emitted a putrid stench like rotting corpses, instantly making Qichuan Feng feel an urge to gag.

“Ugh… it stinks.”

She instinctively wanted to leave, but at that moment, the door behind her wouldn’t open no matter how hard she tried.

“Huh… huh?”

She tried several times, but the doorknob didn’t budge in the slightest.

“Hey… hey! Commoner! Are you playing tricks?!” Qichuan Feng’s voice began to tremble. “You… you stop messing around! Let me open the door, let me open the door!”

“Gurgle…”

Another strange sound came from the direction of the toilet. Qichuan Feng turned her head to see that black hair was now flowing out of the very spot where clear water had just been pouring.

The dense strands of hair writhed with the water, looking utterly bizarre.

“Ugh… huh… no… no… didn’t you say it was safe here…?”

Qichuan Feng was completely terrified.

“What… what is that…?”

Suddenly, her peripheral vision caught something abnormal in the mirror. The black shadow she had dismissed as a smudge began to slowly writhe.

“Ugh—”

She covered her mouth, suppressing the urge to vomit, and slowly brought her phone’s flashlight closer, determined to see what it truly was.

One second, two seconds, three seconds…

The black shadow continuously writhed, then slowly turned around, revealing a pale, swollen woman’s face.

It was a dead head!

“Ah!”

Qichuan Feng shrieked and fell directly to the floor, her phone clattering beside her.

It was then that she horrifyingly realized the head that had been in the mirror was now on the toilet beside her, grinning at her in a grotesque manner, smiling eerily.

The head’s skin was putrid and deathly pale, its blackish-purple lips devoid of teeth. The smile itself was incredibly bizarre, with the corners of its mouth stretched unnaturally wide as if forcefully pulled.

It was smiling, yet it was chilling beyond belief.

“Hehehe… hehehe… come… play with my… my child…”

As the decaying vocal cords emitted a hoarse, unpleasant sound, Qichuan Feng horrifyingly discovered a baby behind the woman’s head, tugging at the woman’s lips and beaming with a joyful smile.

A ghost!

It was a ghost!

Absolutely a ghost!!!

“Ah… ah…”

Qichuan Feng was so frightened she couldn’t form a complete sound, unable to even scream for help.

She had only one thought now.

If anyone could truly save her, she would…

“Bang—”

With a loud crash, the locked toilet door was suddenly flung open.

The beam of a flashlight shot in like the sun, illuminating the previously dim toilet as if it were broad daylight.

Qichuan Feng’s eyes ached from the blinding light, but she couldn’t bear to close them; the brightness now offered her immense security.

Through her blurry vision, she saw a man burst in violently. He immediately rushed to where the two ghosts were, swinging his fists and pummeling them, producing sounds of flesh meeting bone.

“Urgh ahhh—”

The two ghosts let out agonizing wails, continuously shrinking back. Yet, the man showed no mercy, directly grabbing the mass of hair, pulling the ghosts towards him, and fiercely battering them again.

The baby ghost, seizing the moment the burly man was assaulting its mother, leaped up and lunged towards the man’s head.

But a loud shout rang out: “Freeze!”

The baby ghost abruptly froze in mid-air, unable to move.

“Damn you, trying to ambush your Daoist master!”

The man grabbed the baby ghost by its body and slammed it hard against the toilet.

“Go back to your mother’s womb!”

Pulled with such force, the baby ghost dropped with a thud, painfully colliding with its mother and getting entangled in the black hair. The two ghosts became an almost indistinguishable mass.

“Qichuan Feng! Go get my bag!”

This shout jolted the still bewildered Qichuan Feng awake. Only now did she clearly see that the person who had been violently beating the two ghosts was Bai Yuliang.

“Huh?”

“Stop gawking, damn it! If you don’t want to die…” Bai Yuliang continued his furious beating, turning his head to command angrily, “Then hurry up and get it!”

“Ah—”

At this point, Qichuan Feng no longer cared about being scolded. She ran out almost blank-minded, even stumbling due to her wobbly legs.

Nevertheless, she quickly returned with Bai Yuliang’s bag.

“Open it! Find a bottle with red liquid, and splash it on these ghosts!” Bai Yuliang continued to order.

“Oh!”

Qichuan Feng fumbled to open the bag, tossing out the food and water on top, then found a glass bottle containing red liquid at the very bottom.

“Urgh ahhh—”

The ghosts, which had been so ferocious moments ago, instantly became frantic the moment they saw the bottle. They seemed utterly terrified of the liquid and began to fight back desperately.

“Ugh… mm!”

Qichuan Feng pulled out the stopper, then closed her eyes and, without a second thought, violently splashed the red liquid forward.

“You silly girl, you just splashed most of it on me, damn it!”

“Ahhh, wuwuwu, I’m sorry!” Qichuan Feng apologized for the first time.

“Urgh ahhh—”

Even though only a portion of the red liquid landed on the ghosts, it caused them extreme pain, and steam, like from scalding, visibly rose from their bodies.

“Hmph! Never mind!”

Bai Yuliang rolled his eyes, thinking that it had some effect. He quickly chanted a string of words that Qichuan Feng couldn’t understand at all.

“By the Supreme Edict, I transcend your lone souls, all ghosts and demons, all four births receive grace, escape the sea of suffering, and be reborn as humans!”

As he chanted, a faint glow emanated from Bai Yuliang’s tightly clenched right fist.

“As swift as the law!”

With this furious roar, Bai Yuliang’s fist slammed down.

With two sharp cracks, the heads of both ghosts exploded simultaneously. Their bodies, which had been thrashing madly, soon ceased to move.

Having completed all of this, Bai Yuliang released his grip as if utterly drained, leaning against the wall, panting heavily, and recovering for a long moment. After a while, he extended a hand to Qichuan Feng, who was slumped on the floor.

“Are you alright?”

Following the sound, Qichuan Feng slowly looked up. Before her, Bai Yuliang was covered in sticky red liquid, his clothes stained with sweat and dust.

But for some reason, she felt he looked agreeable for the first time, even giving her a sensation of her heart racing.

Instinctively taking his hand, she quickly felt something was amiss. She lowered her head, flustered, not daring to let him see her strange expression.

“Those… those things just now…”

She felt her voice had also become a little strange, much softer and finer than usual.

“Don’t worry.” Bai Yuliang flashed a triumphant smile. “I sent this poor mother and child off with the [Supernatural Transcendence Charm].”

“Though… that’s the wrong way to use the [Supernatural Transcendence Charm].
