Chapter 30: Growth

It was 1:00 PM.

Lin Yu held an umbrella, but most of his clothes were still soaked.

Magical Girl Tianxing was working hard with a mop, cleaning the bloodstains in the classroom. She clearly wasn’t good at it. When she saw Lin Yu arrive, she brushed aside her messy bangs and gave him a smile of relief.

“You’re finally here!” Magical Girl Tianxing looked at his wet clothes, then at the umbrella in his hand, puzzled. “You have an umbrella. How did you still get this soaked?”

“The rain is too heavy. Nothing I could do.”

Lin Yu didn’t tell her that he had already come to the school once. He had only just gotten this umbrella.

“Hurry up and finish cleaning the scene, then go home and take a shower. Don’t catch a cold.”

“Thanks for your concern.”

“I wasn’t concerned about you.” Magical Girl Tianxing turned her head away, then added, “If you get sick, who am I supposed to get to clean up after me?”

“Fine, got it.”

“Then I’ll be going now~”

Magical Girl Tianxing clapped her hands, tossed the mop into the bucket, and left quickly.

Lin Yu took a bottle of special dissolving solution from the tool kit and began cleaning the scene. Afterward, he called DIAB’s supply department to replace the damaged desks and chairs.

This time, no Calamity had died at the scene, and no useful supernatural substance had been left behind, so there was nothing to bring back.

“Um… is this money you dropped?”

A girl from the supply department handed Lin Yu five hundred yuan.

“Where did you find it?”

“On that chair.”

“…”

It was still drizzling. Lin Yu drove back to the company and checked on his team members.

Ye Lai was watching videos of superhumans fighting Calamities with great interest. These weren’t things logistics department employees needed to study.

Gu Xiaoxiao was sprawled on the desk, fast asleep, completely unaware that her phone kept ringing. Seventy-eight missed calls meant she had gotten into trouble again… probably superhumans trying to reach her and failing.

Shen Yan wasn’t here. He was probably out on duty.

‘Nothing to do anyway. Might as well… check what Bai Lanlan is up to.’

Just as Lin Yu planned to return to his office and use the Possession Girl app, Minister Sekana walked over. Seeing that she looked to be in a decent mood, Lin Yu let out a breath.

‘At least no one screwed up again.’

“Lin Yu, someone wants to see you.”

“Who?”

“Lei Yi.”

“…” Lin Yu thought for a moment, then shook his head. “What does he want to see me for? To confess his crimes?”

‘Is Lei Yi going to beg for mercy? Or threaten me? He still hasn’t given up?’

“I don’t know.” The minister shrugged. “Go if you want. Don’t if you don’t. He’s locked up in Prison No. 3 now.”

“Sure… I’d like to see what kind of scheme he’s cooking up.”

After all, watching an enemy suffer was more satisfying than living well yourself.

K City, Prison No. 3.

K City had four prisons.

Each prison held different inmates.

Prison No. 1 held Calamities.

Prison No. 2 held supernatural creatures.

Prison No. 3 held superhumans.

Prison No. 5 held ordinary creatures.

As a DIAB employee, Lin Yu showed his work ID and was allowed inside.

The prison looked old. Black stains covered the railings, moss and cobwebs filled the walls, and the concrete floor felt solid underfoot.

Following the front desk’s directions, Lin Yu waited at the visitation window. He could faintly hear movement from the cells.

Soon, a guard brought Lei Yi over. He wore a yellow prison uniform, a sealing collar, and sealing handcuffs.

Compared to a few days ago, he seemed to have lost weight. His expression was no longer arrogant, but full of fear and dread.

“Lin Yu!”

Lei Yi saw Lin Yu and rushed over excitedly. He grabbed the bars. His hands would not stop trembling.

“Go on. What do you want?”

“I, I… I know I was wrong! Can you write me a letter of forgiveness?”

“Huh? Why should I forgive you?”

“No, you don’t understand! My cellmates are all lunatics! At night I even have to protect my own damn ass…”

Lei Yi instinctively glanced at his rear. The look on his face didn’t seem fake.

“What does that have to do with me?”

“We trained together once, at least. Our relationship shouldn’t be this bad. I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me.”

“Fine. I forgive you.”

“Great! Then… the letter of forgiveness?”

“No letter. I forgive the you locked up in here, not the you who gets out.”

“You!”

Lei Yi seemed angry, but he couldn’t vent it. His hands gripped the bars tightly. He wanted to use force, but the sealing handcuffs restrained him.

“I’m leaving.”

Lin Yu waved and turned to go.

“You’ll regret this! My brother is coming back to K City soon. Then you’ll get what’s coming to you!”

“Oh, I’m so scared.”

“No! You can’t leave! I don’t want to stay in this place a second longer!”

Lin Yu left the prison and took a deep breath, putting Lei Yi’s begging and threats out of his mind.

“I’m no longer the person I used to be… No one can threaten me!”
