Lin Yu knew a mortal body couldn’t withstand a Calamity’s brutality.
Under the tentacle monster’s ferocious assault, two more hits and he’d lose the ability to move.
On top of that, two more eyeball monsters jumped in through the window. They wobbled upright, split open their gaping mouths, and charged at Lin Yu.
“Again?”
Lin Yu gripped his pistol and fired at one of them. The instant the bullet left the barrel, the tentacle shot out. This time it didn’t come through the window. It came through the railing it had smashed earlier.
[Shit!]
It was too fast for Lin Yu to dodge. The massive force slammed into him and threw him against the classroom wall. The tentacle snapped back and vanished into the rain.
Lin Yu slid down the wall to the floor, a burning pain searing through his chest.
“Cough, cough!”
He spat out a mouthful of blood. The pistol had fallen from his hand during the impact. He shoved his hand into his pocket, fumbling for something.
[If I hadn’t absorbed that D-rank energy crystal earlier and boosted my stamina, I’d probably already be unconscious. One more hit like that and I’m dead.]
In the classroom, one eyeball monster lay dead by his gun. The other took the chance to fly straight at him.
“Gwah!”
The eyeball monster dove at Lin Yu, aiming to tear out his throat.
At the last second, Lin Yu pulled out the Blood-Drinking Dagger. He gripped it so hard his knuckles went white. A flash of cold light, and the eyeball monster was pierced clean through, its life snuffed out.
After attacking with the dagger, Lin Yu could feel his vitality flooding back. It was enough to get him back on his feet.
“Hah…”
“Good thing I had a blood pack delivered right to me.”
Out in the rain, the tentacle revealed itself again, swaying without attacking right away.
Lin Yu tightened his grip on the dagger, ready to dodge at any moment.
Then, from the corner of his eye, he caught sight of something through the broken corridor wall. A shadow was climbing upward. It looked like another tentacle.
[Holy shit. There’s… there’s two of them?]
Lin Yu’s stomach dropped. Years of training and an A-rank strength card let him barely wield the Blood-Drinking Dagger, but he couldn’t draw out its true power.
His hand was shaking as he held it. This was exactly why DIAB never issued supernatural gear to ordinary employees. Normal people couldn’t control it.
[No one should be able to see me here, right? Looks like I have no choice…]
Lin Yu gritted his teeth and pulled out his old phone.
Just then, the two tentacles moved.
They swung their bodies and slammed in from both sides, front and back, leaving Lin Yu no room to escape.
[Hurry!]

“Boom!”
A massive crash tore through the classroom. Two huge tentacles writhed amid the wreckage. When the dust settled, a girl stood in the classroom.
She was holding a desk over her head, having taken the full brunt of the impact. Her crimson eyes watched the two tentacles calmly.
The moment the tentacles tried to pull back, Lin Yu moved. She leaped high and drove the Blood-Drinking Dagger down into the tentacle by the window, then dragged the blade backward.
“Die!”
The dagger tore through the monster’s flesh, blood spraying out like a fountain. The tentacle convulsed, reeling from the blow, and tried to shrink away.
The tentacle by the corridor swung up to slam down on her again. Lin Yu raised her right hand and aimed at it. A fierce red glow formed in her palm.
She activated [Beginner Blood Manipulation]!
This was a vampire ability, one she had used twice before while possessing Bai Lanlan.
A red beam shot out, and the tip of that tentacle burst apart. Thick blood poured out like a tide, laying a red carpet across the classroom floor.
The two tentacles retreated in disgrace, crawling out of the classroom and disappearing into the rain.
The girl stood in the pool of blood. After transforming into a vampire, she could faintly sense supernatural auras. Those two tentacles seemed to belong to the same Calamity, and now they had returned to the sewers.
“They ran?”
Just then, a DIAB superhuman arrived on the scene. She saw Lin Yu standing at the center of the classroom and raised her gun.
“Don’t move! Who are you? SCA? Show me your ID.”
