Join the ServerLin Ling was struck with sudden astonishment at Lin Hui’s unexpected question, which also reminded her of an issue she had long overlooked.
Come to think of it, this body was technically female, but in the half year since her transformation, she had never had her period. There were times she even forgot she was a girl now.
Well, that was a bit awkward.
After all, Lin Ling had never considered the question of having children. If Lin Hui hadn’t brought it up, she probably never would have thought it through.
With that in mind,
Lin Ling outwardly pretended to ponder her younger brother’s question while silently connecting to Little White’s mental chat room. Through spiritual energy, she began a conversation: [Hey, Little White, am I going to get that… you know… period?]
Receiving Lin Ling’s transmission, Little White immediately stopped what she was doing. [What’s wrong, Master? Why the sudden question?]
Lin: [Nothing, just answer me. I’m a bit… curious…]
White: [Well… Actually, I’m not sure. Under normal circumstances, you probably would, since the Creator made you a perfect lifeform.]
Lin: [But it’s been half a year, and I really don’t recall having it.]
White: [Maybe your cycle is just long…]
Lin: [How long? I don’t want it to come during a battle or some formal occasion. That would be way too embarrassing!]
White: [I don’t have any data on that. After all, there are very few Battle Sovereigns in the entire Origin Star Universe, let alone females. Why don’t you ask Lady Biscar?]
Lin: [ … I don’t really want to ask that pipsqueak—she always seems to cause trouble. But I guess I should find out in advance.]
—
Looking up at her idiot brother’s curious expression, Lin Ling suddenly felt an inexplicable anger.
[Tell me to have kids? Get lost!]
But she couldn’t just say that. She needed an excuse, or else Mom would keep nagging about it, which would be troublesome.
So Lin Ling turned on her acting mode, sensing that Mom had already gotten up and was peeking from around the corner.
She put on a helpless, slightly sad expression.
With a sigh, she said, “Alas, having a child is impossible. Don’t let my appearance fool you—my body is entirely composed of spiritual energy. It doesn’t have that capability.”
Hearing this, Lin Hui’s expectant face instantly fell into disappointment.
Lin Ling naturally caught every bit of his expression change.
[Huh?? What are you disappointed about, you brat? Don’t tell me you wanted me to get…?!]
“But didn’t your clone say you were a ‘perfect lifeform’? How can you not have reproductive ability?” Lin Hui suddenly played detective, as if possessed by Sherlock Holmes.
[You definitely want to see a good show, don’t you! I’ve treated you well for nothing!] Lin Ling cursed inwardly.
But on the surface, she remained calm and expressionless. “Precisely because I’m a perfect lifeform. Xun Lu said that reproduction exists to pass on genes, but as a Battle Sovereign, I have no limit on my lifespan, so naturally I lost that ability.”
[Wow, that sounds so reasonable I almost believe it myself.]
Seeing her brother’s thoughtful expression and sensing her mother’s gradually lowering mood,
“Nice!” Lin Ling silently celebrated. Though she felt a bit sorry for Mom, there was no other choice.
[Let’s hope this topic ends here.]
Lin Ling prayed inwardly.
—
It seemed the great Creator had heard the prayers of His beloved little daughter and granted her wish.
Learning that she had no hope of having a grandchild, Mom shifted her expectations to Lin Hui, who instead got bombarded with pressure.
This made Lin Ling chuckle silently on the side.
But even so,
Lin Ling couldn’t escape her mother’s “playtime.”
Thinking she had dodged the bullet, Lin Ling was predictably caught by Mom after she finished lecturing her younger brother.
Being eager for a daughter, Mom naturally wouldn’t let go of such a beautiful “new daughter.” She dressed up Lin Ling like a doll for the entire morning—changing hairstyles, adjusting poses, swapping outfits.
Speaking of clothes, Lin Ling immediately regretted not checking her room beforehand. She had no idea when the closet had been filled with all kinds of garments: every type, every style, and of course, various cosmetics. Probably all prepared by Sakuragi.
That ruined all her excuses.
[And how did Mom know I had all this stuff in my room?]
Naturally, Lin Ling was subjected to a full dress-up session by her energetic mother. Fortunately, her face was too perfect; even her makeup-savvy mom didn’t know where to start and eventually gave up.
But with a little touch-up and a dress, Lin Ling looked breathtaking. Even Dad and Lin Hui were amazed, which just made Lin Ling feel awkward.
After all, wearing girls’ clothes in front of people who knew her original identity was rather embarrassing.
One small incident was the underwear issue. Mom gave her a lecture about it, and despite Lin Ling insisting that a Battle Sovereign’s body was different from a human’s, Mom either ignored her or used her “veto power.”
Lin: [Life is so hard…]
As for Dad, although he still didn’t say much, he seemed to adapt quickly. He even asked, “So from now on, will you date a boyfriend or a girlfriend?”
Lin: [ … ]
—
Now,
Lin Ling was ready to send her parents and brother back. They all had their own lives to live—Mom had a shop to run, and the brat was in a hurry for a date.
Watching her family step into the silver-white teleportation array, Lin Ling waved goodbye and activated it. In the next moment, the array was empty.
[Ah… they’re gone.]
It felt different from what she had imagined. She thought they might get angry or dislike having a son turned daughter, a brother turned sister. She had been worried about that for a while.
[Looks like I was overthinking. Really—what parent wouldn’t accept their child, especially in our family?]
Lin Ling laughed at herself inwardly.
Undoing her twin-tail hair clips, her beautiful silver-white hair cascaded down again. She then turned to look at Sakuragi, who had been smiling all along. “Aren’t you curious who they were?” (In Japanese)
Sakuragi gently shook her head. “Lord Rothchild didn’t tell me, so I won’t pry. But of course, if you wish to tell me, I’d be happy to listen.”
She gave Lin Ling a sweet smile.
Flustered, Lin Ling quickly changed the subject. “By the way, have Jieming and Zhang Shuhan woken up yet?”
“Not yet. They drank a bit too much last night. But Miss Zhang has woken up and is now tending to the Red-horned Beast in the independent space.” Sakuragi used the remote to display the scene from the independent space.
Seeing how well the girl and the beast were getting along, Lin Ling felt quite satisfied. “When Jieming wakes up, tell him and Zhang Shuhan to meet me at the back training ground… Actually, let them rest a few more days. You’ve worked hard with the Prison Beast attack. And your group probably has a lot to deal with. Go help your father first.”
Hearing this, Sakuragi felt a warm surge in her heart.
“Understood.” She bowed and left the hall.
Watching Sakuragi’s hurried departure, Lin Ling muttered to herself, “She really does worry about her family.”
—
[Perfect. I’ll take these few days to get something done.]
Then, through her consciousness, she contacted Little White: [Little White, do me a favor. Inform the contact persons from each country and your connections that I plan to host a livestream.]
Though Lin Ling didn’t like being in the limelight, she could accept doing it once. The current panic in society was largely due to a loss of security. Perhaps giving everyone a strong spiritual pillar would help alleviate the situation. Besides, after this incident, it was time they understood the Origin Star Universe they lived in.
