Chapter 85: The Token in the Box

Qin Yangjun took out a box. A head popped up beside him.

What’s this?

Ling Hu’er had come down from the tree at some point and sidled up to Qin Yangjun.

The chief disciple of the Yuqian Sect, acting so secretively on his own turf.

Could he be up to something shady?

Driven by curiosity, she came closer to see what he was doing.

At that moment, Ling Hu’er’s full attention was on the box. She didn’t notice the faint smile curling at the corner of Qin Yangjun’s mouth.

She’s hooked.

Qin Yangjun knew well that curiosity was the best tool to catch someone’s attention.

As long as Ling Hu’er was curious, half his plan was already successful.

“Shh, keep your voice down.”

Qin Yangjun hugged the box mysteriously, looking around as if afraid someone might be watching.

Ling Hu’er eyed him suspiciously.

“So secretive. Hey! Stop looking. It’s just me around here, besides those people in the manor. No one else.”

After seeming to confirm no one was around, Qin Yangjun opened the box.

But when she saw what was inside, Ling Hu’er’s expression turned even stranger.

Inside the box was a token.

“A token? What’s that good for?”

Qin Yangjun turned away haughtily.

“Hmph! Not telling you.”

“You!”

His attitude made Ling Hu’er stomp her foot in frustration.

Then she seemed to think of something. She crossed her arms and said loudly,

“If you don’t tell me, I’ll spread the news about you digging up this token here today. Then the whole sect will know you found a token right here.”

Qin Yangjun panicked.

“Shh, shh! Alright, alright, you win.”

He sighed helplessly.

“I’ll tell you. But don’t tell anyone else. This token is a pass token for Biluo Valley.”

“Biluo Valley?”

Ling Hu’er was full of questions. The name sounded familiar, but she couldn’t place where she’d heard it.

Qin Yangjun pulled her into a corner.

“Biluo Valley is a medicinal garden set up by our Yuqian Sect.”

“A medicinal garden? Oh… I get it. You’re going to steal some spirit herbs.”

Qin Yangjun rolled his eyes at her. This girl had no idea of his status in the Yuqian Sect.

And that made things simpler from here.

“What stealing spirit herbs? Would I be interested in that? In Biluo Valley, there’s a spirit spring, and in that spring, there are many spirit fish.”

“Fish?!”

Qin Yangjun’s words seemed to hit a nerve. Ling Hu’er suddenly perked up.

“Let me tell you, those spirit fish are special. They’ve been eating all kinds of spirit herbs and medicines since birth. Their meat is tender, and the flavor is incredibly delicious. Ordinary fish can’t compare. And I’ve developed a special seasoning. When you grill them, the skin is crispy and fragrant, but the inside… one bite, and it’s ‘crunch’… ah…”

Qin Yangjun looked like he was already fantasizing about eating the fish.

Gulp…

Then Qin Yangjun heard a faint sound.

Ling Hu’er had started drooling at some point.

She hadn’t eaten in days, staking out Yueyao. Hearing this, she couldn’t resist.

She had eaten fish before, but never fish raised on spirit herbs like the ones he described.

Seeing his prey hooked, Qin Yangjun wasn’t in a hurry. He said slowly,

“Ah, but earlier, I ate so many that the fish almost went extinct. So my sister took away my pass token. But what she doesn’t know is, hehe, I secretly got another one. Well, now you know. I’m off. If my sister finds out, I’m done for.”

With that, Qin Yangjun turned to leave, but Ling Hu’er grabbed him.

“I… I want to go too.”

By now, Ling Hu’er had figured it out. Yueyao was still a disciple of the Yuqian Sect. The monk may run away, but the temple remains. She could fill her stomach first and come back for him later.

“You? No, no.”

“If you don’t let me come, I’ll tell your sister!”

“Alright, alright, you win. But once we’re there, you have to listen to me.”

Hearing that she could go, Ling Hu’er nodded eagerly.

“Fine, but I want two fish. No, three!”

Qin Yangjun put on a pained expression.

“Fine. As long as you don’t tell anyone, I’ll give you three.”

Though his face showed pain, inside Qin Yangjun was amused.

This girl was really naive.

His story had many holes, but she hadn’t noticed a single one.

The reason he had to resort to this was that Ling Hu’er was a classic tsundere.

A tsundere girl has high pride.

If he had told her the truth, she would have thought it was a handout, that he pitied her. In her eyes, he was an outsider with no reason to get involved.

So his appearance had to be an “accident.”

Everything that followed had to be an “accident.”

For tsundere people, you have to guide them so they feel that everything happening has nothing to do with others, that they chose it themselves, without being forced or pitied.

What Qin Yangjun needed to do now was to let her unknowingly complete the goal he had set for her.

That way, the problem would be solved without hurting her self-esteem.

Now he just hoped that Ah Ling was ready.

“Hey! What are you spacing out for? Let’s go.”

Ling Hu’er’s voice interrupted his thoughts. He looked up and saw her already standing on her spirit sword.

“Coming, coming.”

Qin Yangjun summoned Dragon’s Roar.

Then the two figures gradually disappeared into the horizon.

After Qin Yangjun and Ling Hu’er left, a breeze blew, and Yueyao appeared under the tree.

She stared blankly at the hole beside her.

Observing carefully, she noticed that the area where the box was buried had only recently been dug up.

The damp soil stood out against the fallen leaves around it. Someone must have buried it last night.

Yueyao immediately thought of Qin Yangjun’s maid.

Ah Ling was very strong, far beyond her and Ling Hu’er. If she wanted to hide something quietly, the two of them probably wouldn’t notice.

As for what Qin Yangjun had said, she had heard everything through her divine sense.

How to put it? There were too many problems.

Given Qin Yangjun’s status in Mu Xianxian’s heart, would she stop him from eating anything? Even if he ate those spirit fish to extinction, she wouldn’t care.

And why would he need a token to go to Biluo Valley? His face was the highest-level token.

So it was all very clear.

Qin Yangjun had set this up to help her out of trouble!
