The freshman burst out, a frustrated sound escaping their lips.
Yoonwoo sheepishly lifted his head. Yeon-chae merely looked down at him with an indifferent expression. Beside them, the freshman grumbled dejectedly.
“Even if we’re in the same group, you shouldn’t have blocked me.”
“Exactly. Why block them? You could have just said it nicely.”
Yoonwoo whispered. Yeon-chae sighed softly.
“Even after I told them I had a husband, they kept talking that way, so I thought they were trying to break up my family.”
“I honestly thought you were joking. I just thought Yeon-chae hyung was so cool, and that he was single…”
“Well, it’s over after today anyway. Once we submit the assignment, there’ll be no reason to see each other again.”
Yeon-chae spat out the words, causing the freshman to fall silent. Yoonwoo now felt a little sorry for the kid.
“It happens. It’s okay.”
He patted their shoulder, and the young student sniffled. The freshman hung their head, and then their gaze fell upon Yoonwoo’s rounded belly.
Suddenly, the freshman’s eyes widened.
“But, by any chance…”
“Oh, this?”
Yoonwoo triumphantly stroked his belly, a proud smile on his face.
“Nope, I’m not fat; I’m pregnant.”
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!”
The freshman shouted loudly, bowed deeply, then clutched their bag and fled.
Yoonwoo sat with Yeon-chae’s chest as a backrest, happily sipping his strawberry juice. It was a fresh fruit juice Yeon-chae had made for him, blending ripe strawberries.
“Is it good?”
“Yeah, absolutely.”
He drained the cup with a contented sigh. Yeon-chae leaned down, his tongue lightly tracing Yoonwoo’s lips and chin.
“You’ve got some here.”
“Oh…”
The sensation was both strange and ticklish. Yoonwoo squirmed, a silly grin spreading across his face.
With his back warm and his belly full, sleep gradually began to creep in. He tried to force his heavy eyelids open, but couldn’t stop a yawn from escaping.
Yeon-chae’s breath, mingled with soft laughter, brushed against his ear, sending shivers down his spine. That laughter sounded so tender.
It gave Yoonwoo a small surge of courage. He had meant to say it ever since they returned from the cafe, but had kept putting it off until now.
“Yeon-chae, I’m sorry about earlier.”
“Hm?”
“Not earlier, maybe yesterday. Anyway, about me seeing your chat window.”
“What about it?”
“Well, it’s just… weren’t you upset?”
“No, I wasn’t. Why would I be upset?”
“Uh…”
Asked why he would be upset, Yoonwoo was once again at a loss for words. ‘It’s your private life… and I didn’t even ask you…’ His excuses tumbled out incoherently, without any proper order.
Yeon-chae simply watched Yoonwoo, his brow slightly furrowed, before suddenly remarking.
“I actually wish you’d do it more.”
“Huh? Do what?”
“Interfere more, obsess more.”
‘Obsess…’
“You mean, me? Interfering and obsessing over you?”
“Yes. You don’t pay enough attention to me.”
“Hey, when did I ever not pay attention to you? And obsession isn’t exactly the opposite of indifference, is it?”
“It’s the same thing.”
‘How could those be the same thing?’ Yoonwoo was at a loss, unsure where to even begin correcting him.
More than anything, Yoonwoo felt he was already interfering with Yeon-chae quite a bit. ‘Obsession’… he wasn’t so sure about that.
Yoonwoo’s eyes darted around, his face a picture of awkwardness. Then Yeon-chae suddenly reached around from behind, wrapping his arms around Yoonwoo’s waist.
“Still, I liked today.”
“What, again…”
“You got jealous, didn’t you? You were jealous?”
“Mmm.”
It was too blatant to deny. Yoonwoo, embarrassed, simply laughed without a word. Yeon-chae pressed his lips firmly against the nape of Yoonwoo’s neck, as if stamping a seal.
“Do it more for me. Be jealous.”
“I get jealous sometimes, naturally.”
“Obsess over me too.”
“Hey, obsession is a bit much. Are you going to obsess over me too? You shouldn’t do that…”
Yeon-chae listened to Yoonwoo’s mumbling voice and thought. ‘I shouldn’t tell him yet that I’ve been obsessed for 14 years.’
‘Once Yoonwoo has about three babies, then I’ll confess.’ Yeon-chae wished Yoonwoo would obsess over him more, but for now, he decided to be content with this level of jealousy.
Still, to be honest, he wished Yoonwoo would be just a little more jealous.
Yeon-chae wanted more jealousy. He even told Yoonwoo about it directly.
“We’re always just the two of us at home; who am I supposed to be jealous of?”
Yoonwoo protested, his face flustered. But Yeon-chae had already thought of a solution.
“We’re supposed to do a team project on Friday. Can I bring the others over to our place?”
“…”
Yoonwoo was speechless, staring at Yeon-chae’s excited face before finally asking who the team members were. The answer he received was even more absurd.
“Well, Myeong-tae and…”
“The slightly chubby Myeong-tae who always has a buzz cut?”
“Yes, yes.”
Yoonwoo recalled Myeong-tae’s simple, potato-like face. Myeong-tae was a kind and cute junior, but he was hardly someone to be jealous of.
“And Da-eun.”
“…The Da-eun who went to the MT with us before?”
More precisely, it was ‘the Da-eun who had confessed to Yoonwoo while drunk at that MT.’
Yoonwoo narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Yeon-chae’s expression. ‘Was he not asking for jealousy, but wanting to be jealous?’
Noticing Yoonwoo’s gaze, Yeon-chae waved his hand dismissively.
“Da-eun doesn’t have feelings for you anymore, hyung.”
“Really? How do you know that?”
“She told me before…”
“You talk about things like that with Da-eun? You two must be really close.”
They hadn’t seemed that close before. He recalled last year’s summer MT, and even up until his leave of absence, they hadn’t been.
He couldn’t understand why she would tell Yeon-chae such a thing. ‘So what if she doesn’t have feelings for me anymore? Does she have them for *you*?’
His eyes involuntarily sharpened. Yeon-chae, who had been carefully observing Yoonwoo’s expression, suddenly broke into a sheepish smile.
“Oh, no… we’re not close. Da-eun has a boyfriend now, so that’s how I knew.”
“Da-eun broke up with her boyfriend recently.”
“Oh, hyung, how did you know that again?”
Yoonwoo had only stated a fact, yet Yeon-chae’s cheeks flushed crimson, and his broad shoulders visibly trembled. Yoonwoo grew increasingly irritated.
“Why are you laughing? I’m not jealous.”
“Mmm, I know.”
“No, I’m really not, I’m telling you!”
“You’re right. It’s not jealousy.”
Even as he agreed, the corners of his mouth were clearly curling upwards. Yoonwoo glared at Yeon-chae with a displeased expression, only for Yeon-chae to pull him into a hug from behind, rubbing his cheek against Yoonwoo’s neck.
“I love it when you get jealous, hyung.”
“That’s a terrible hobby of yours.”
“When Da-eun and Myeong-tae come over, please be very jealous.”
“I need something to be jealous about first…”
Though what he’d just done *was* jealousy. “Or bring someone genuinely worth being jealous of. Like that freshman from last time.”
The thought of that freshman clinging to Yeon-chae made his eyebrows furrow involuntarily. Even thinking about it now made his stomach churn.
At that, Yeon-chae tightened his arms around Yoonwoo.
“If you were truly jealous, you’d be upset, hyung. You won’t be upset because of Da-eun or Myeong-tae.”
“You asked me to be jealous, didn’t you? Was it just to *pretend* to be jealous?”
“No, not exactly.”
Yeon-chae shook his head, his face still buried in Yoonwoo’s neck. His lips and the tip of his nose brushed lightly against Yoonwoo’s skin, a ticklish sensation.
Yoonwoo shivered, hunching his shoulders as he looked up at Yeon-chae. He shot Yeon-chae a look that clearly asked, ‘What on earth do you want?’, to which Yeon-chae merely smiled brightly.
“I want you to get intensely jealous even when there’s absolutely nothing to be jealous about. Like an obsessive male lead in a novel.”
“…”
It was a truly strange and specific request. ‘What kind of novels has he been reading lately?’
In the end, Myeong-tae and Da-eun were invited over. It wasn’t because he wanted to make Yeon-chae jealous, but because it was the first time Yeon-chae had ever expressed a desire to bring friends over, whatever the reason.
He had been mostly staying at home since his leave of absence, so he was also a little bored. Yoonwoo preferred a bustling house over being alone.
“Let’s finish the team project quickly and then all hang out.”
On the day Myeong-tae and Da-eun were scheduled to arrive, Yoonwoo found himself a little excited. He grabbed Yeon-chae’s sleeve and pleaded.
“Alright.”
Yeon-chae smiled and nodded readily, which only made Yoonwoo more thrilled. It felt less like a team project and more like a housewarming party.
“Tell them to stay for dinner too. What should we make? I learned some things at cooking class…”
“Should we just order jjajangmyeon?”
“I also learned Gujeolpan and royal tteokbokki…”
“Let’s order tangsuyuk too. Since there are four of us, a large tangsuyuk with a jjajangmyeon and jjamppong set.”
“Ah! I also learned galbi-jjim. If I buy ribs in the morning, marinate them, and then cook the stew at the right time later…”
“We’ll also get complimentary fried dumplings, so that should be enough, right?”
“…”
“…”
Their gazes met in the air, engaging in a brief staring contest. Naturally, Yoonwoo, who had a history of sending Yeon-chae to the emergency room, lost. He hung his head and dejectedly said,
“But it’s a housewarming, and we’re just ordering delivery food?”
“It’s a team project, not a housewarming.”
“Still, it’s the first time your friends are coming over.”
“Kevin hyung came before, didn’t he?”
“Let’s… exclude him.”
When Kevin had visited, it felt like a huge Sapsali dog had burst in, wreaked havoc, and then left. It didn’t feel like a guest had visited at all.
Noticing Yoonwoo’s dampened spirits, Yeon-chae asked soothingly,
“Then should I cook? Just something simple.”
He had said it, naturally expecting Yoonwoo to be delighted. However, Yoonwoo suddenly scowled deeply.
“What? No.”
Yeon-chae merely blinked, flustered by the sudden sternness. Yoonwoo grumbled, making his displeasure abundantly clear.
“You only cook for me. Why are you trying to cook for other people?”
“Oh… right…”
Indeed, inviting his friends over had been a good decision. Yeon-chae pulled the obsessively jealous male lead into a tight hug, grinning widely.
“Ah, why suddenly! Let go!”
The possessive male lead, held captive in his arms, choked and gasped for air.
