Liu Qiu discovered that her new wife loved eating meat—but not cooked meat.
She preferred beef that was only lightly seared on the surface, still streaked with blood when cut open.
And sashimi.
Fu Jinyin’s thin lips were pale, sensual yet carrying a faintly sickly tint.
Her eyes were lowered, long and dense lashes concealing her pupils completely.
With a high-bridged nose and slightly upturned double eyelids that curved at the ends to match her lifted eye corners, she exuded a sharp, almost cutting coldness.
She looked like a character model that existed only in a video game—so beautiful it felt unreal.
Liu Qiu was not staring the entire time; she only glanced up occasionally, but Fu Jinyin’s appearance struck the brain with such force that one could not help but scrutinize her features.
Liu Qiu swallowed the spinach leaf in her mouth and looked up at Fu Jinyin again.
This time, their gazes met directly.
Liu Qiu paused, then simply set down her chopsticks, straightened her back, and stared openly at Fu Jinyin.
She was now a cold, mature twenty-eight-year-old woman—there was no way she would show something like shyness.
In her own mind, her expression was perfectly indifferent, yet in reality her fair cheeks had already taken on a faint flush, giving her the look of someone forcing herself to stay composed.
Fu Jinyin spoke first.
“Is there something?”
Her voice was low, yet inexplicably full of depth.
Liu Qiu pressed her lips together.
Fu Jinyin was someone whose outward appearance was absolutely flawless.
Sticking to her aloof persona, Liu Qiu remained silent and placed a piece of cooked meat into Fu Jinyin’s bowl.
After a brief pause, she said, “Don’t eat raw meat. It has parasites.”
That sounded right—mature and responsible.
Fu Jinyin lowered her eyes to glance at the solitary piece of cooked meat, then stood up with her bowl and chopsticks and walked into the kitchen.
Liu Qiu’s gaze followed her and she watched as Fu Jinyin dumped all the food into the trash, placed the bowl in the sink, and began washing it.
Liu Qiu froze.
Fu Jinyin seemed to loathe her even more than she loathed the original host.
She truly didn’t understand why the original host believed Fu Jinyin loved her.
After washing her bowl, Fu Jinyin went straight back to her room, leaving Liu Qiu alone in the living room.
Liu Qiu didn’t feel angry.
She only felt that Fu Jinyin was pitiful.
In fact, Fu Jinyin seemed to prefer men.
Searching through the original host’s memories, Liu Qiu found evidence tucked away in a corner: inside Fu Jinyin’s diary was a photograph of a boy.
Silently, Liu Qiu counted the original host’s crimes.
First, forcing twenty-year-old Fu Jinyin to drop out of school.
Second, sabotaging her attempts to find work after she left school.
Third, coercing the isolated, helpless twenty-year-old orphan into marriage.
Fourth, forcibly trying to “turn” a straight woman.
They had been married for two years, yet the original host had never arranged a job for Fu Jinyin after the wedding.
With only a high school education, Fu Jinyin couldn’t find stable work in a big city and could only take scattered part-time jobs to earn some money.
The original host used to give her one hundred thousand yuan each month, but Fu Jinyin had never accepted it.
Half a year ago, the original host’s company ran into trouble.
She worked in women’s lingerie, but a scandal broke online claiming that returned, dirty underwear had been resold without proper handling.
At first it seemed minor, but more and more people came forward confirming the accusation.
The situation escalated into panic—what if someone received underwear contaminated with sexually transmitted bacteria?
Although intimate clothing would normally be washed before wearing, it was still an extremely sensitive matter.
The company’s stock plummeted overnight.
It had survived half a year only because the original host poured her entire fortune into keeping it afloat.
The grand villa was exchanged for a small rental.
Luxury cars were sold.
Designer jewelry was pawned secondhand.
Even so, it could no longer hold on.
After half a year, the cause still hadn’t been uncovered—clearly someone was deliberately targeting her.
With bankruptcy looming, the original host could no longer provide money to Fu Jinyin.
Even the food they were eating now had been bought with Fu Jinyin’s own earnings.
Aside from declaring bankruptcy, the original host had one other option: sell the company.
Some people were willing to acquire it for ten million.
Liu Qiu frowned.
“[If I sell the company, that’s fine, right?]”
The system analyzed the situation.
“[Host, I feel like selling it might not be a good idea. The original host seemed to care deeply about the company she built from scratch.]”
That was true.
Otherwise she wouldn’t have poured in her entire fortune trying to revive it.
Liu Qiu sat there in a daze for a long time until the sound of the door closing snapped her back to reality.
Turning her head, she saw Fu Jinyin with a bag over her shoulder, preparing to leave.
“Jinyin, where are you going?” Liu Qiu asked.
Fu Jinyin put on her shoes without responding.
Liu Qiu exhaled softly, raised her voice, and asked again, “Jinyin?”
No answer.
Fu Jinyin walked out the door.
Liu Qiu felt slightly deflated.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t hear—she just didn’t want to respond.
But that was normal.
Given what the original host had done, it was only natural for Fu Jinyin to ignore her.
After finishing her meal and tidying the table, Liu Qiu returned to the bedroom to prepare for her first day back at the company.
The first task was choosing what to wear.
When she opened the wardrobe, she realized just how disconnected her current outfit was from the rest of the closet.
Inside were only gray suits, black fitted tops, and black suit trousers.
Such heavy, dull colors.
Though she possessed the original host’s memories, she hadn’t reviewed every detail.
There were many things she still didn’t know.
Opening another cabinet revealed sleepwear and numerous unopened sets of lingerie.
She really had no choice—every outfit suitable for going outside looked the same.
Closing the wardrobe, she walked to the desk.
It was cluttered with countless design drafts.
Beside it sat a sewing machine and various fabrics and tools for garment-making.
The lingerie designs on the drafts were fresh and beautiful.
At least in Liu Qiu’s opinion.
“[Host, why not try designing one yourself?]” the system suggested.
“[I can try.]” She didn’t have any clear direction anyway.
Sitting down, she picked up a blank sheet and began to think.
She casually sketched a little rabbit.
Her drawing skills were ordinarily average, but this time the image came out vivid and lively.
Her eyes widened slightly.
This must be the original host’s talent.
She drew a duck, then a puppy, then a kitten.
She became oddly addicted.
Her lips curved upward a little as she showed the system.
“[System, look.]”
The system simulated applause.
“[Clap clap clap. Very good, very good.]”
The tips of her ears, hidden beneath her hair, turned faintly red.
She felt just a little proud.
Still, she knew it wasn’t truly her skill—it belonged to the original host.
Taking a deep breath, she focused.
Now she would attempt to design a new lingerie piece.
“[System, stop playing games and use the internet to investigate what happened to the company half a year ago.]”
As an artificial intelligence, the system’s abilities were best utilized in the modern era.
“[Understood.]”
At 1 a.m., City A was far from quiet; it was as lively as daytime.
Inside a bar, Fu Jinyin, dressed in a server’s uniform, moved through the crowd with a tray in hand.
The staff were all decent-looking, but she stood out the most.
Small-faced, broad-shouldered, long-legged, with excellent proportions, her white shirt was tucked into black trousers, accentuating her narrow waist and long legs.
On the second-floor railing, Duan Fan leaned over to look down at the dance floor.
Beside her stood a beautiful woman in a tight short skirt.
“Big sister, after looking so long, have you found someone you like?” the woman asked, stroking Duan Fan’s arm suggestively.
Duan Fan hummed lazily beneath the warm, dim lights, her sharp features softened by the glow.
“I have. Of course I have.”
She threw the woman a flirtatious glance.
“See that tall server?”
The woman blushed.
“That’s a part-timer. She looks like a model. I’ve wanted to sleep with her for ages, but she’s never taken the bait.”
“She looks like the top type. I doubt you want to be the one pinned down.”
Duan Fan laughed and removed the woman’s hand.
“What if we invite her for a threesome?”
The woman’s voice turned coy.
“But she won’t respond to me.”
Duan Fan leaned close and whispered in her ear, “You have something to spice things up, don’t you? Slip it to her.”
The woman stared at her in surprise.
“How did you know?”
“Because I have it too. It’s great, isn’t it?”
“I’ll wait here.”
Understanding she was being used, the woman didn’t mind.
She liked the idea of a threesome.
Later, amidst the flashing lights, someone bumped Fu Jinyin’s tray.
The last glass spilled onto a woman in a short skirt, the glass shattering on the floor.
Music drowned out the sound.
Fu Jinyin bowed slightly.
“Sorry.”
The woman made a scene, demanding compensation.
Eventually she handed Fu Jinyin a drink.
“If you can’t pay, then drink until I’m satisfied.”
Fu Jinyin silently took the glass and drained it.
“Fine. I’m not unreasonable. We’ll let this go,” the woman said before disappearing.
The manager sighed and told Fu Jinyin to leave early.
She changed out of her uniform and exited through the back door.
Upstairs, the woman searched for Duan Fan but couldn’t find her.
She realized she’d been played.
Outside, Fu Jinyin prepared to rent a bike home when a horn sounded.
Duan Fan’s purple sports car stopped beside her.
“Fu Jinyin, get in. Don’t ride drunk.”
After a moment’s silence, she got in.
As they drove, Duan Fan chatted casually, mentioning Liu Qiu and her milk tea.
Fu Jinyin only responded once.
“Not ‘sleeping together.’ Just cooperation.”
Later, Duan Fan suggested going up to provoke Liu Qiu.
“It’s late. She’s asleep,” Fu Jinyin said.
She didn’t stop Duan Fan from following her inside.
Meanwhile, Liu Qiu was showering, unaware of what was about to unfold.
And so the night deepened.
