The sun sank below the horizon, night rose in its place, and a bright full moon hung high in the sky, casting silvery light upon the earth.
In the silent forest, within a hidden cave, a snow-white fox floated in midair.
Beneath it lay a person, and between the fox and the human body hovered a crimson demon core glowing with light, faint red energy swirling around it.
Using the demon core as a catalyst, infusing it with the power of the soul, and supplementing it with an array formation, one could forcibly summon back a wandering soul and stuff it into a human body.
The light surrounding the demon core grew brighter and brighter.
The fox suddenly opened its eyes, and its body expanded rapidly, becoming even larger than an adult human.
It was no longer small and adorable, but eerie and magnificent.
Outside the forest, Liu Qiu was sitting on the rooftop, gazing at the moon high in the sky.
[System, I’m ready.]
After speaking, she lowered her head and looked at a piece of wood standing alone in the courtyard.
She raised a finger and pointed at it, circulating the energy within her body.
A sharp gust of air split through the space and struck the wood, knocking it over.
The system applauded enthusiastically.
[Wow, host, you’re amazing!]
Liu Qiu couldn’t help laughing.
After fifty-seven failed attempts, she had finally succeeded.
She could use ghost energy to cause actual damage now.
How magical.
[System, I feel like I’ve become a superhero.]
As she spoke, she leapt down from the rooftop and landed steadily in the courtyard, though her feet didn’t quite touch the ground.
After bringing Liu Huang back earlier, she had stayed on the roof all day, studying the professional manuals the system gave her.
Now she had advanced from a rookie ghost to a Level One ghost.
Even though her range of movement was still limited, she felt genuinely happy.
Who wouldn’t want to fly through the skies and possess overwhelming combat power?
Even if her ability to fly was built on the premise that she had become a ghost.
She set the wooden post upright again and returned to the rooftop, preparing for a second attack.
But the moment ghost energy spilled from her fingertips, her vision went black, and a powerful pulling force seized her body—
Dark clouds slowly drifted toward the moon and eventually obscured it.
The moonlight illuminating the forest vanished, leaving everything in darkness.
Su Li’s heart throbbed with intense pain.
She had no choice but to withdraw the demon core.
Her demonic power had been overused, tearing open the wound near her heart.
The enormous fox dropped onto all fours and lowered its head to look at the human lying unconscious on the stone bed.
It seemed she had failed.
She had ended the ritual too early.
Su Li hadn’t held much hope to begin with.
There was no such thing as succeeding in one attempt.
She would need human essence and blood to continue the process.
She wouldn’t absorb from this body for now.
Its life force was too weak to withstand any damage.
Lowering her head, Su Li licked the human’s lips lightly.
She would have to go to where humans gathered and absorb their vital energy instead.
Her body shrank down, and the massive fox vanished, replaced by a small and adorable snow-white fox.
After flicking her tail, she exited the cave, set up a formation nearby, and disappeared into the night.
Not long after she left, the person lying in the cave slowly opened her eyes.
Liu Qiu stared at the uneven stone ceiling above her, her mind struggling to process what had happened.
Hadn’t she been in the courtyard?
How had she suddenly ended up here?
She sat up, only then realizing how weak her body felt.
That sickly sensation had returned.
Clutching her chest, she began coughing violently.
The metallic taste of blood spread in her mouth once more.
Her eyes widened as she stared blankly at the blood she had coughed up.
With trembling fingers, she touched the side of her neck.
Warm skin.
A slow, faint pulse.
The temperature of a living human.
[S-System… I think I’m alive again.]
The system fell silent.
It had personally witnessed the host’s body in this world being buried in a grave.
But it had just scanned her, and this body was indeed her original body.
This world was becoming increasingly bizarre.
[Host, good luck.]
It could no longer offer any advice.
Liu Qiu was already accustomed to the system’s unreliability.
She hadn’t expected help from it anyway.
Rising from the cold stone bed, she surveyed her surroundings.
This was clearly a cave.
A glowing stone inside served as a light source, preventing her from being plunged into complete darkness.
Stepping outside, she looked at the pitch-black night.
Fine raindrops fell softly onto leaves and grass.
The chirping of insects, the occasional birdcall, and distant beastly roars all indicated she was deep within the forest.
She was no longer in the Liu residence.
The best course of action now was to wait inside this cave and see who had placed her body here.
She had already guessed who was responsible.
Returning to the stone bed, Liu Qiu lay down again and closed her eyes.
Time passed, and soon familiar voices echoed from outside.
“Miss, this is the place. Come inside and rest.”
Judging from Su Li’s tone, she wasn’t alone.
Gradually, two sets of footsteps approached.
“What’s going on? Why is someone lying here?”
“Don’t be afraid, miss. That person is unconscious. You can rest here peacefully.”
“I saw her collapsed on the ground earlier and brought her in.”
Su Li smiled brightly at the prey she had lured here, her narrow eyes curving slightly.
“Now that I look closely, miss, you’re quite beautiful. What brings you to lose your way in the mountains?”
The woman stared into Su Li’s enchanting eyes, gradually becoming dazed.
“I just came up the mountain to catch a few animals to sell for money. It’s nothing special.”
“Miss Xiao Li, you’re the one who looks like a fairy.”
Su Li’s red lips curved upward as she lifted the woman’s chin with her fingers.
“Then would you be interested in warming my body?”
Liu Qiu froze and couldn’t help cracking her eyes open slightly, turning her head to look at Su Li.
Su Li’s back was to her, standing extremely close to the woman, almost as if they were kissing.
[Green Hat Value +2]
The progress bar moved.
Liu Qiu understood that the progress belonged to her.
When she first met Su Li, Su Li had spoken to her the same way, calling her beautiful.
The woman’s voice trembled.
“Miss Xiao Li, h-how can I help you?”
Su Li’s smile deepened, the upward sweep of her eyes intoxicating.
Her gaze slid downward toward the woman’s collar.
“Miss, loosen your collar.”
Liu Qiu felt extremely uncomfortable.
Had everything Su Li shown her before been an act?
The system sensed her emotions immediately.
[Host, are you unhappy? But demons are like this. They don’t have human morals.]
Liu Qiu didn’t respond.
She watched as Su Li lowered her head and pressed her face against the woman’s neck.
A muffled groan followed.
[Green Hat Value +3]
In the end, the mission was what mattered most.
Liu Qiu’s eyes began to sting.
Gradually, the woman started struggling.
Her face turned paler and paler, her screams growing louder in agony.
Liu Qiu realized something was wrong.
“Su Li!” she suddenly shouted.
Su Li’s pupils contracted sharply.
She released the woman’s neck and turned to look at Liu Qiu.
Without support, the woman collapsed to the ground.
Her neck was covered in bright red blood, her eyes filled with fear and pain.
Liu Qiu looked at Su Li’s blood-smeared mouth, her body trembling as she shrank into the corner of the stone bed, covering her lips while tears streamed down her face.
Su Li… was eating a human.
Su Li slowly approached her, her expression turning pitiful.
“Wife, you saw that? You woke up, but why didn’t you tell me?”
Her blood-stained lips and the sharp fangs revealed when she spoke terrified Liu Qiu.
A tall shadow loomed over her, accompanied by the heavy scent of blood.
Her eyes widened, but no words came out.
Slender pale fingers approached and gently removed her hand from her mouth.
“Wife, are you afraid of Xiao Li?”
Su Li leaned down, closing the distance between them.
Her black eyes gradually turned a brilliant gold.
“Wife, I’ll be heartbroken.”
“I only did that to revive you.”
Her eyes reddened as tears slid down, mixing with the blood at her lips before dripping onto Liu Qiu’s clothes and blooming into crimson stains.
Liu Qiu’s breathing faltered.
She flung Su Li’s hand away and shoved her back.
“Don’t come near me!”
To Su Li, Liu Qiu’s strength was like that of an ant.
Yet she allowed the distance to form, lowering her gaze at the trembling girl curled into herself.
Su Li laughed softly, her lips crimson, her fox eyes stunningly seductive.
It seemed she could no longer deceive this human.
But it didn’t matter.
The human had been revived and would remain by her side forever.
She grabbed Liu Qiu’s arm and forcefully pulled her closer, shedding the mask of innocence and revealing a beauty too demonic and exquisite for any human to rival.
“Human, do you remember what you told me?”
“If I ever became a monster, you’d let me drink only your blood forever.”
Her presence was overwhelming, leaving Liu Qiu nowhere to escape.
She had never imagined that Su Li’s slender frame could feel so oppressive.
She couldn’t breathe.
She couldn’t hide.
Her whole body trembled, her face pale as paper.
She tried to find the shy, bashful girl from before in Su Li’s face.
But she couldn’t.
It had all been an act.
The man-eating demon was Su Li’s true self.
“D-Did that person die?”
Su Li pinched her cheek, forcing her to look up, and kissed her cool, soft lips lightly.
“No.”
At the same time, she used demonic energy to sustain the human she had drained.
Liu Qiu lowered her lashes and avoided eye contact.
“D-Don’t kill her, okay?”
Su Li narrowed her eyes and kissed her eyelid.
“But I need food.”
“If Wife becomes my food for life, I won’t harm other humans. How about that?”
It sounded like negotiation, but Liu Qiu knew she had no choice.
She was just an ordinary human.
How could she fight a demon?
And this demon was the other female lead.
Slowly, she nodded.
“O-Okay. You… eat me.”
She could always revive again anyway.
Su Li grabbed her hips and lifted her up, then sat on the stone bed and made Liu Qiu straddle her.
“Wife is truly kind.”
“I’m going to start eating now. Open your lips and don’t resist, understand?”
Liu Qiu clenched the fabric at Su Li’s chest and stiffly parted her lips, tears pooling in her reddened eyes.
She was a little scared.
That woman had looked so pained.
Her head was held in place as Su Li’s soft lips pressed against hers.
Her lips were pried open, and another tongue invaded her mouth.
The taste of blood spread.
Liu Qiu closed her eyes and let her tears fall.
She was about to be eaten by a demon.
But Su Li was actually transferring demonic energy into Liu Qiu’s frail body, slowly nourishing it so she could live longer.
After a long kiss, Su Li pulled away.
Liu Qiu finally managed to breathe.
She wiped her tears with her sleeve, trying not to look so pathetic, but the more she wiped, the more tears fell.
The corners of her eyes grew redder and redder.
Su Li laughed and cupped her face, forcing her to look up.
“Wife, why are you crying so much?”
“I haven’t even done anything yet.”
Liu Qiu pursed her lips.
“My tongue… it’s cut.”
She stuck out her pink tongue for Su Li to see.
Su Li’s brows lifted slightly, her gaze intoxicating.
“It really is broken.”
Liu Qiu withdrew her tongue, her lashes trembling as her fingers tightened in Su Li’s collar.
She was nervous.
She was afraid.
For the first time, she clearly understood just how different demons were from humans.
Suddenly, she felt something fluffy brush against her face.
Looking over instinctively, she saw a large, soft fox tail swaying beside her.
She sniffled, her voice hoarse.
“W-What is that for?”
Su Li let out a soft hum, releasing Liu Qiu’s face and instead gripping her hips as the fox tail coiled around her waist.
“Wife, touch it.”
Liu Qiu lowered her head to look at the snow-white tail, then lifted her eyes to Su Li.
“I can really touch it?” she whispered tearfully.
She had never seen such a large fox tail before.
It looked so soft.
Since she was going to be eaten anyway, she might as well touch it once.
Su Li kissed the tip of her nose and rubbed against her lightly.
“You can.”
Humans really were easy to coax.
