Chapter 86: Let’s wait

“Boom—!”

Thick storm clouds blanketed the sky as bolts of lightning split through the darkness, illuminating half the heavens.

Rain the size of beans poured down in relentless sheets, as if someone were overturning buckets of water, urgent and chaotic.

It felt as though the entire Jiuzhou was shrouded in this downpour, everything blurred into a dim gray haze.

“Xiao Li, what are you looking at?”

A low, hoarse voice sounded from beside her.

Su Li turned her head and saw Liu Qiu leaning against the bed.

Her long, curled hair spilled loosely over her shoulders, and her body was so thin it seemed as though a gust of wind could shatter her.

Su Li stepped away from the window, no longer watching the raging storm outside, though she could still hear the dense patter of rain striking the eaves.

She walked to the bedside and bent toward Liu Qiu.

Liu Qiu’s lashes trembled lightly as she took the initiative to press a kiss to Su Li’s cheek.

It was cool and soft, carrying the faint scent of medicine.

Su Li’s eyes curved instantly as she climbed onto the bed and pulled Liu Qiu into her arms.

She leaned against the headboard while letting Liu Qiu sit nestled in her embrace.

“Wife, I was watching the heavy rain just now.”

The person in her arms coughed softly.

“It sounds like the rain is very heavy.”

Su Li nuzzled against her and conjured her tail, laying it gently across Liu Qiu’s abdomen.

Her voice turned sticky and affectionate.

“Yes, it’s pouring. The thunder is loud too.”

This was the third year since she and Liu Qiu had married, and their feelings for each other had grown deeper with each passing day.

But even after three years of careful care, Liu Qiu’s body had not improved much.

“Wife, I’ll go up the mountain tomorrow.”

After such torrential rain, a certain spirit herb would grow deep in the forest, one that was very beneficial for those with weak constitutions.

Liu Qiu curled slightly, sinking further into Su Li’s embrace.

“Mm, Xiao Li, come back early.”

Su Li smiled, wrapping an arm around Liu Qiu’s waist and burying her face into the soft hollow of her neck.

She loved this position.

It felt as though she could trap Liu Qiu completely within her arms.

Three years ago, when she fled with Liu Qiu, they had encountered that Daoist.

Fortunately, the Daoist had ultimately been defeated, severely injured, and never appeared again.

That was why she and Liu Qiu had been able to live peacefully until now.

Su Li inhaled deeply the medicinal fragrance clinging to Liu Qiu and lifted her head from her neck, pressing her lips beside Liu Qiu’s ear.

Her voice turned husky.

“Wife, I’m hungry.”

The pale ear before her flushed red instantly.

A small, soft voice came from ahead.

“We only did it last night.”

Su Li extended her tongue and licked Liu Qiu’s earlobe.

“Last night was last night. Tonight is tonight. It’s different.”

“Wife, promise me, okay?”

The person in her arms tilted her head and shifted slightly, turning from being held from behind into a sideways embrace.

Su Li kissed her cheek again and whined playfully.

“Wife, please?”

Liu Qiu lifted her head, her long lashes trembling incessantly.

She raised two fingers, her face flushed red.

“Then… just twice tonight.”

“You can’t use your tail.”

“And keep it quiet. Don’t let my family hear.”

Su Li narrowed her eyes, pinched Liu Qiu’s cheek, and kissed her directly before gently pressing her down onto the bed.

The candlelight flickered in the room.

Outside, the steady rain concealed the intimate sounds within, though occasionally a soft, alluring gasp slipped through, louder even than the rain’s drumming.

The next day, a fine drizzle still fell from the overcast sky.

The clouds hung low and heavy, pressing down so close it felt suffocating.

“Cough… cough… Xiao Li, come back early.”

Liu Qiu leaned against the bed, her pale inner garment not nearly as white as her bloodless face.

The coughing brought no color to her cheeks.

The only vivid hue on her face was the small black mole at the corner of her eye.

Su Li bent to kiss that mole before straightening, her lips curving into a gentle smile.

“Wife, I might come back a little late.”

She was satisfied with this life.

If only Liu Qiu’s human body were stronger.

Su Li left the room and walked out into the courtyard.

There, she saw Liu Qiu’s two younger sisters.

Su Li had never felt fond of them.

If humans did not insist on living together with family, she would have taken Liu Qiu away long ago.

She did not even bother greeting them, simply holding up her oil-paper umbrella as she headed toward the mountain.

The sky remained overcast, making it difficult to gauge the time.

But she had barely entered the mountain before she found the spirit herb she sought.

She placed it into the small basket on her back and glanced at the sky, imagining her beautiful human waiting at home.

A smile crept onto her face.

She even felt grateful to that Daoist.

If she hadn’t been injured back then, she wouldn’t have been captured by a hunter and sold in a cage, and she never would have met Liu Qiu.

This must be what humans meant by finding joy in contentment.

She would nurse her human back to health and stay together for a very long time.

On the way back, she used her demonic power and soon arrived at the courtyard gate.

But the moment she stepped inside, she heard something else.

Her eyes slowly widened.

The sound was unmistakable.

As a demon, her five senses were sharp enough to catch it even from the courtyard entrance.

Su Li began walking forward, step by step, until she reached the door to the room she shared with Liu Qiu.

The door was not closed, left ajar with a wide gap.

Voices inside were perfectly clear.

“Big Sister, you’re really not afraid Sister-in-law will find out? She’s only been gone a short while, and you already called Huang’er and me over.”

Su Li’s fingers slowly clenched as red veins crept into her eyes.

Inside, three bare bodies were entwined together.

Her human wife was sandwiched between the two sisters, her body rocking slightly as she gasped repeatedly.

“She won’t know.”

A drop of blood fell from Su Li’s fingertips onto the ground.

Her expression twisted, and her black pupils shifted into brilliant gold.

Damned human—

The conversation inside continued.

“Sister Qiu, you’re really greedy. Huang’er and I have had our fingers eaten by you.”

“Tsk tsk, the sickly one isn’t just greedy, she’s shameless too. You were on Sister-in-law’s bed last night, and today you insist on the two of us together.”

“Mm… slower… I just like my sisters more. I’m not shameless.”

“Su Li is starting to annoy me. I want to divorce her. Ah—slower—”

Su Li did not know what she was thinking.

She only kept watching until scorching liquid welled from her eyes.

It slid down the corners of her lips and into her mouth.

She tasted the metallic sweetness of blood.

“Liu… Qiu.”

She mouthed the name soundlessly.

Why did her mouth taste so bitter, even though she had eaten nothing bitter at all?

“You clearly said you liked me best.”

The people inside could not hear her.

Su Li’s body trembled violently.

She watched as Liu Qiu was held, her swollen lips turned toward another.

Her legs were lifted high.

More and more blood seeped from Su Li’s eyes.

Her heart hurt worse than when the Daoist had pierced it.

How could humans do this?

She truly believed Liu Qiu loved her most.

Weren’t they married wives?

The human had betrayed her.

“Ah—so good… I like being with my sisters. Kiss me, don’t just use your hands.”

The scene descended into utter absurdity.

Su Li’s mind exploded in pain, making it difficult even to breathe.

She clutched her head, her expression contorting.

She would kill the human.

The human had betrayed her.

She would kill her—

Su Li suddenly kicked the door open and stormed inside.

Meeting Liu Qiu’s shocked gaze, Su Li slowly split her lips into a smile.

“Wife, you betrayed Xiao Li.”

Liu Qiu shook her head frantically.

“No—no, Xiao Li, it’s not what you saw.”

Su Li’s nails lengthened, sharp as blades.

She smiled.

“Wife, are you saying the scene of you being with two people at once was fake?”

“Or that you were being held and welcoming someone else?”

White fur spread across her face as her features shifted into a fox’s head.

With a swift motion, her claws pierced through the two sisters’ chests, ripping out their hearts and tossing them aside.

She saw, for the first time, fear and disgust in the eyes of the human who had once never despised her.

Su Li had never hated so fiercely.

She raised her hand to kill the human too.

But seeing the trembling, fragile body before her, she stopped.

The fox head receded into a human face.

Su Li reached out and pulled the human into her arms.

Her sorrow turned into streams of blood that flowed down her cheeks.

Burying her face in Liu Qiu’s neck, she whispered tremblingly, “I’m sorry. I scared you.”

Silence filled the room, broken only by their ragged breathing.

After a long, long time, a hoarse voice spread slowly through the air.

“If only… I had never met you.”

Daylight broke.

Bright sunlight poured over the earth, dispelling the darkness.

In the dense forest, the filthy little fox lying on the ground slowly opened her eyes.

Su Li’s ears twitched, confusion flashing through her golden gaze.

Why was she here?

Shouldn’t she be cultivating in her cave?

She yawned, her entire body aching as though she had slept poorly.

The small fox rose slowly to her feet and shook her messy fur.

She licked her paw and used it to groom her face, only to pause when she felt dampness.

Why was her face wet?

Had she accidentally gotten water on it?

She did not dwell on the question.

After grooming herself, she headed deeper into the forest.

She felt thirsty and wanted to drink water.

It seemed like she had forgotten something.

Or maybe not.

Unable to figure it out, she stopped thinking about it.

Before reaching the pond, she caught the scent of blood.

Her eyes lit up, and she dashed forward like lightning.

So much blood.

She leapt toward the bodies lying in a pool of crimson.

But the moment her paw touched them, she jumped back in distaste.

They were all dead.

Dead blood contained no vital essence.

She didn’t need it.

Soon beasts would come to devour the corpses, dirtying the water.

She would drink and leave.

Suddenly, one of the corpses sat up slowly.

Su Li froze, staring.

“Fox, do you remember Liu Qiu?”

The hoarse voice clearly addressed her.

Her gaze fell on the blood-stained copper coin sword beside the figure.

She bared her teeth.

“Daoist?”

“Heh, yes.”

Su Li lowered her body cautiously, ears flattened.

The Daoist stood up, her features obscured by blood.

“It’s time to go. Time to find Qiuqiu.”

Whether speaking to her or to herself was unclear.

The Daoist walked away without sparing Su Li another glance.

Only after the scent completely vanished did Su Li relax.

She approached the pond and lapped at the water.

Qiuqiu… it sounded familiar.

Who was that?

She stopped drinking and stared at her reflection in the water.

Blinking, she touched her eyes with a paw.

Why was she crying?

Had something gone wrong in her cultivation?

Perhaps she should go to a human settlement and drink some fresh blood.

But first she would need human clothes.

Her gaze drifted toward the pile of corpses.

Too dirty.

Then a flash of white caught her eye.

She padded over.

A set of clean white clothes and trousers lay nearby.

She lowered her head to sniff.

A medicinal scent.

Pleasant.

She bit the clothes and planned to carry them back to her cave, in case she wished to go down the mountain one day.

Meanwhile, inside a jolting carriage, Liu Qiu slowly woke in Liu Huang’s arms.

Her face felt itchy.

Instinctively, she reached up and grasped the hand brushing against her.

She opened her eyes and looked up.

“Liu Huang.”

Liu Huang hummed and withdrew her hand.

“You were crying even in your sleep. Did you have a nightmare?”

Liu Qiu shook her head.

“No nightmare.”

Her eyes did feel dry.

At that moment, the System’s voice sounded in her mind.

[Host, the mission has been completed.]

Liu Qiu froze.

Her drowsy mind snapped fully awake.

[Ah? Completed?]

She had only taken a nap.

She pulled up the task panel and looked at the progress bar.

[Cuckold Value: 100/100]

[Ding! Mission completed. The Host may leave this world at any time. (Note: Upon leaving, you will immediately enter the next mission world.)]

Her eyes widened.

It was truly completed.

The System wasn’t joking.

[Host, you can leave now. Do you want to go? You don’t like this world anyway.]

Her lashes trembled as she shook her head slightly.

[Wait a bit. I want Bai Qingqing to stop looking for me.]

[And I want to know how Su Li is doing. System, I don’t want Su Li to become the next Bai Qingqing.]

The System did not try to dissuade her.

[Alright. I will support you.]

Humans had too many emotions.

If left unresolved, they would linger in the heart for a lifetime.
