Chapter 113: Knew

Liu Qiu actually wasn’t very good at comforting people, but at this moment Fu Jinyin gave her the feeling of a child.

A child who needed to be soothed.

Liu Qiu pursed her lips and cautiously placed her hand on Fu Jinyin’s head, gently stroking it. Fu Jinyin’s hair was much softer than she had imagined, smooth like silk.

Good. She hadn’t been pushed away.

Liu Qiu softened her voice as much as possible. “I won’t call her.”

“Jinyin, I didn’t kiss her.”

“Really, believe me. I’m married to you. I won’t go looking for someone else.” Liu Qiu spoke slowly and a little louder, hoping Fu Jinyin could clearly hear every word she said.

Fu Jinyin’s heart felt awful. She hadn’t originally intended to cry—she just felt terrible. That was why she had squatted by the door, wanting to see how long Liu Qiu would take to come back, wondering whether she would stay with that woman for a long time.

But when she smelled the unfamiliar scent on Liu Qiu’s body, her heart hurt even more, swelling with a sour discomfort.

Fu Jinyin didn’t know what that emotion was. Tears simply slipped down beyond her control.

“I hate you. You’re really annoying.” Fu Jinyin spoke word by word. If one listened carefully, there was a faint tremor hidden in her hoarse voice.

Liu Qiu hummed softly. “I know I’m annoying.”

“It’s okay. I made you feel wronged. You can scold me.”

Fu Jinyin’s breathing grew heavier. Did Liu Qiu think she felt wronged?

So the swelling, sour feeling in her chest was… grievance.

She didn’t like it. She didn’t like this emotion.

The hand on her head was very gentle, but Fu Jinyin could feel it clearly.

She lifted her head from her knees. Her expression was still cold, but her pale face was already wet with tears and her eyes were slightly red.

She didn’t look as indifferent as usual.

Liu Qiu was squatting close to her. Fu Jinyin’s gaze fell on Liu Qiu’s eyes as she asked hoarsely, “Why… did you make me feel wronged?”

“I… hate it.”

The words left Liu Qiu unsure how to respond. It didn’t seem like Fu Jinyin believed her explanation.

Liu Qiu’s legs had gone numb from squatting, so she braced herself on her knees and stood up, withdrawing the hand that had been resting on Fu Jinyin’s head.

Suddenly, a cool hand grabbed her wrist.

“You’re not allowed to leave.”

Liu Qiu looked down and saw Fu Jinyin biting her lip so hard her teeth sank into the flesh, as if it hurt.

Helplessness flickered in Liu Qiu’s eyes. “Jinyin, I really didn’t kiss anyone else.”

Fu Jinyin released her and buried her face back in her knees.

“Liar.” They had been so close—how could they not have kissed? Disgusting.

That was cheating. It was putting a green hat on her. No wonder people online said being cheated on was enough to drive someone to despair.

She had clearly said she liked her.

So disgusting.

She didn’t even care about liking someone; she just didn’t want to like someone who cheated on her.

Fu Jinyin hugged herself tightly, her nails digging into her arms.

Liu Qiu had no choice. She had explained, but Fu Jinyin refused to listen.

Taking a deep breath, Liu Qiu pulled out her key and opened the door.

Fu Jinyin bit her lip fiercely, disgust filling her eyes.

She still wanted to kill Liu Qiu.

The thought flashed by for only a moment. Immediately after, she remembered Liu Qiu’s soft body and faint fragrance, her gentle voice, her mild expression, and the hand that had just stroked her head.

Fu Jinyin raised a hand and pressed it against the top of her own head. Her tears soaked her pants.

She felt wronged. Very wronged. Liu Qiu had made her feel terribly wronged.

Thud.

An unfamiliar sound reached her ears.

Fu Jinyin slowly lifted her head. Her tear-blurred eyes couldn’t clearly reflect Liu Qiu’s figure, but her vision itself was still clear.

She saw Liu Qiu place a small stool in front of her and say, “I’m not leaving. Squatting just made my legs tired.”

“Jinyin, I’ll stay here with you until you stop crying.”

Liu Qiu had been standing in high heels for several hours during the photo shoot, so she was actually very tired.

But she couldn’t drag Fu Jinyin inside, and she couldn’t leave Fu Jinyin sitting outside forever. This was the only solution she could think of.

Fu Jinyin quieted down and lowered her eyes, refusing to look at Liu Qiu.

Liu Qiu’s heels, toes, and arches all hurt badly, so she slowly sat on the small stool and stretched out her legs to ease the pain a little.

Fu Jinyin’s gaze followed the movement of Liu Qiu’s legs.

A patch of red entered her sight.

Liu Qiu’s heel was bright red, as if it had been rubbed raw. The skin was slightly broken.

Fu Jinyin stood up silently.

Liu Qiu looked up at her.

There were still tears in Fu Jinyin’s eyes, but she seemed much calmer now.

Liu Qiu quietly breathed a sigh of relief. If she could stand up, did that mean she wasn’t as angry anymore?

She truly felt she had wronged Fu Jinyin. Not only had she forced herself on her while drunk, but Fu Jinyin had also seen what Duan Fan and Duan Liming did to her.

Fu Jinyin stared at Liu Qiu deeply. She could have said something like how much she hated her, but instead she said nothing. She simply reached out and lifted Liu Qiu up from the stool.

The sudden sensation of being lifted made Liu Qiu instinctively grab Fu Jinyin’s shoulders.

Looking up, she stared at Fu Jinyin in surprise. A cool tear slid down from Fu Jinyin’s sharp chin and landed on Liu Qiu’s cheek.

Liu Qiu’s lips trembled slightly before she asked softly, “Jinyin… what’s wrong?”

Fu Jinyin didn’t answer. She carried Liu Qiu into the house and placed her on the bed.

“Jinyin, I—”

“Don’t talk. Annoying.”

Without looking at Liu Qiu again, she turned and walked straight out.

Liu Qiu was already exhausted. As soon as her body touched the bed, sleepiness overwhelmed her. Within moments she fell asleep.

She had no idea that Fu Jinyin later came back with some ointment. Seeing Liu Qiu sleeping soundly, she gently applied the medicine to Liu Qiu’s heel before quietly leaving again.

“Sis, sending me abroad is one thing, but why won’t you let me come back?” Duan Fan’s voice carried a rare trace of coldness.

She had been stuck in this miserable place for a whole week. Duan Liming simply refused to let her return and even had people watching her.

From the other end of the phone came Duan Liming’s calm voice. “I want you to mature a little.”

Duan Fan ran her tongue over her canine teeth and scoffed. “Sis, I’m already twenty-eight. How much more mature do I need to be?”

“And your way of making me mature is exiling me abroad?”

“This is exile.”

Hearing the impatience in Duan Fan’s voice, Duan Liming took a sip of coffee before saying, “Duan Fan, stop teasing that child from the Liu family.”

Duan Fan pressed a hand heavily against her forehead. “Sis, didn’t you always ignore this kind of thing?”

“And besides, I’m not teasing her. I’m pursuing her.”

She said it bluntly. Duan Liming placed her cup on the table with a soft clink.

“Is that so?”

“Then what? Do you think I’m a masochist? Running after someone who constantly gives me the cold shoulder?” Duan Fan was barely suppressing her irritation. She hadn’t seen Liu Qiu for a whole week.

Every day she could only get by watching the video from that day’s shoot.

Duan Liming tapped her finger lightly on the table. Her tone remained completely flat.

“Duan Fan, don’t go near her anymore.”

“She will become my wife.”

When Duan Fan heard that, her mind went blank for a moment before she exploded.

“f*ck! Duan Liming, are you insane?!”

It was hard for Duan Fan to maintain the usual smile she always wore. Her head throbbed painfully. What on earth was Duan Liming thinking?

After taking several deep breaths to calm herself, she forced her voice steady.

“Why are you suddenly saying this?”

Duan Liming didn’t hide anything.

“Duan Fan, your suggestion was correct.”

“I can have several children with Liu Qiu. The Duan family can afford to raise them.”

Duan Fan’s breathing grew rapid. She gripped the phone tightly.

“Are you stupid?! Duan Liming, you’re a f*cking lunatic!!!”

“I said I’m pursuing her! I like her! Do you understand?!”

“Why are you competing with me?!”

“Are there not enough women in the world?! Damn it, Duan Liming, you psychopath!”

“Can you stop going crazy?!”

The line fell silent. Only after Duan Fan finished shouting did Duan Liming respond calmly.

“Duan Fan, using foul language isn’t appropriate for you.”

Duan Fan felt like she had punched cotton. No matter what she said, Duan Liming never got angry and never seemed to take it seriously.

Yet somehow she had taken those words from that day to heart.

“I’m busy with work now.”

Beep… beep… beep…

The call ended.

Duan Fan felt like her lungs were about to explode with anger.

She had suggested that Duan Liming use her genes to have a child with someone—she had not meant Liu Qiu!

“Bang!”

She smashed her phone onto the ground and grabbed her hair, crouching down with reddened eyes.

Duan Liming must be crazy from wanting a child.

No, she couldn’t just sit here and do nothing. She had to message Fu Jinyin and tell her to keep an eye on Liu Qiu.

Panicking, Duan Fan picked up the phone with its cracked screen. When she realized it could still turn on, she quickly found Fu Jinyin’s contact and tried to send a message.

But it didn’t go through.

Fu Jinyin had deleted her.

Grinding her teeth, Duan Fan tried sending a friend request instead and left a note:

[Keep an eye on Liu Qiu. Don’t let Duan Liming take her away.]

The message vanished into silence.

Suddenly Duan Fan thought of someone else—Chao Yue. That person had contact with Liu Qiu.

Luckily she still had Chao Yue’s contact information. Nervously, she sent a message.

This time she got a reply.

Chao Yue: Who is Liu Qiu?

Duan Fan’s heart sank. She couldn’t tell if Chao Yue was joking.

She typed again: Chao Yue, my sister wants to have a child with someone else. Are you okay with that? Aren’t you her partner? Don’t let her have a child with someone else.

Chao Yue: Oh? That’s great. I like human children.

Duan Fan slowly lowered her phone. The gloom between her brows was so heavy it almost felt tangible.

They were all idiots.

“Liming-jie, Duan Fan just said you’re going to have a child with someone. Is that true?”

Chao Yue looked at Duan Liming with bright curiosity.

Duan Liming nodded slightly, confirming it.

Test subject 137 had begun showing emotional fluctuations that the instruments couldn’t record. That was dangerous. It meant the test subject could become uncontrollable and listen to others.

Naturally, the memories from this period needed to be erased.

“Chao Yue, do you need someone?”

“I can arrange one for you.”

Chao Yue happily accepted. “Liming-jie is so nice to me. I want someone tall with long legs, a slim waist, strong arms, and most importantly a handsome face.”

“Big eyes, double eyelids, fair skin, slightly drooping eye corners, a very pure-looking face, and also—”

Halfway through speaking, Chao Yue suddenly stopped. She touched her chin, wondering why her preferences were so specific.

She did crave s*x, but she had never been this particular about what kind of partner she wanted.

“Alright,” Duan Liming replied calmly.

Chao Yue narrowed her eyes. She had figured something out.

There was something wrong with her memories.

And Duan Liming was acting strange. In the past she would never have bothered with requests like this.

Memory deletion wasn’t happening for the first time.

Humans never realized it—but she always managed to deduce what memories she had lost.

Chao Yue suppressed the thought. The researchers called her the smartest test subject, but she felt that this human, Duan Liming, was even smarter than a monster like her.

Duan Liming could easily see through many things.

Chao Yue didn’t want her to notice.

“Liming-jie, let’s forget about that. I’ll keep investigating the matter of test subject 112.”

Duan Liming rubbed her brow and stood up. Her gaze and tone were equally calm.

“No need.”

“Chao Yue, you just need to prove that your existence can perfectly integrate into human society.”

Chao Yue shrugged. “I’m already well integrated. The only thing left is integrating through s*x.”

Duan Liming didn’t respond and instead walked toward the door.

The office door opened automatically. She slightly turned her head.

“Chao Yue, you’re very smart.”

“But you can’t be too smart.”

Watching Duan Liming leave, Chao Yue flopped onto the sofa and pulled out her phone to play a game.

Ah. That was a warning.

“Right. You can’t be too smart, but you also can’t disobey. Otherwise you die.”

She said it with a cheerful smile, as if joking with herself. The office was filled only with her voice.

It felt strangely eerie.

Night arrived as usual.

When Liu Qiu woke up, she sat up groggily and stood on her feet—only to realize half a beat later that her heels didn’t hurt as much anymore.

Sure enough, there was nothing a good sleep couldn’t fix.

She slowly walked out of the bedroom. What surprised her was that Fu Jinyin hadn’t left.

She was sitting by the dining table, eating raw meat.

Liu Qiu looked at Fu Jinyin’s cold face. The redness from crying had already disappeared. She looked just like usual—her thin lips pressed together, distant and indifferent.

It was as if the person who had cried at the door earlier had never existed.

Liu Qiu wasn’t the type to bring up old matters again. She walked over just as Fu Jinyin finished the last piece of meat.

Fu Jinyin stood up with the plate, glanced at her expressionlessly, and walked into the kitchen without saying a word.

Liu Qiu said nothing either. She knew Fu Jinyin found her annoying.

Talking less might make her happier.

Bang!

The sharp sound of a porcelain plate hitting the table pulled Liu Qiu from her thoughts.

“Eat.” Fu Jinyin’s voice was still hoarse and unusually cold.

Liu Qiu’s eyelashes trembled as she looked down.

It was a simple stir-fried meat dish with white rice.

Fu Jinyin had cooked for her.

How could she be so kind?

Liu Qiu felt a sour ache in her chest. But when she looked up again, Fu Jinyin had already turned away and was walking back to her own room.

Liu Qiu didn’t disturb her. She quietly finished eating, cleaned up, and returned to her room.

The next day, bright daylight filled the room as Liu Qiu slowly woke up.

As always, her waist felt sore and her limbs weak. Her body felt sticky and uncomfortable.

Suddenly there was movement in the living room.

Liu Qiu froze.

Fu Jinyin… hadn’t left yet today?

Putting on her slippers, she walked out and saw Fu Jinyin standing by the entrance, picking up a broom that had fallen to the floor.

When Fu Jinyin straightened up, Liu Qiu noticed the crooked tie around her neck.

She quickly walked over.

It was her first time seeing Fu Jinyin in a suit. The suit looked a little big—perhaps because Fu Jinyin was too thin—making it hang loosely on her frame.

Her bangs fell over her eyes. Even though the lower half of her face was as delicate as a god’s, there was still a lingering gloom about her.

When Fu Jinyin looked at her, Liu Qiu said, “Jinyin, your tie isn’t done properly.”

Fu Jinyin stared at her silently.

Unexpectedly, Liu Qiu realized she hadn’t understood.

So Liu Qiu repeated, “Your tie isn’t right,” gesturing with her hands this time.

Fu Jinyin pressed her lips together. Her voice remained hoarse, as if it would never recover.

“I don’t know how.”

Liu Qiu blinked and looked up at her. “Fu Jinyin, if you don’t mind, I can fix it for you.”

Fu Jinyin lowered her gaze, staring at Liu Qiu’s lips for a long time without speaking.

Liu Qiu nervously grabbed the hem of her pants. Had she said something wrong again?

She didn’t have any other intentions. She just wanted Fu Jinyin to look a little more presentable.

The atmosphere grew awkward. Liu Qiu’s cheeks flushed slightly.

“Sorry, I—”

“Why… two words.” Fu Jinyin suddenly interrupted her.

Liu Qiu blinked in confusion. Two words?

Seeing her confusion, Fu Jinyin bent down slightly, silently indicating that Liu Qiu should tie it for her.

Relieved, Liu Qiu grabbed the messy tie, untied it, and began tying it carefully.

Fu Jinyin lowered her eyes.

She could see Liu Qiu’s long lashes, her small nose, and her pale pink lips.

She could also feel Liu Qiu’s warm breath and the faint fragrance on her body mixed with her own scent.

If Liu Qiu kissed someone else, she would feel wronged.

She didn’t want to feel wronged.

So Liu Qiu couldn’t kiss anyone else. She could only kiss her.

Fu Jinyin slowly clenched her fingers.

“Liu Qiu, you have to kiss me,” she said hoarsely.

“If you kiss me, I won’t feel wronged.”

“If you don’t kiss me, I’ll feel very annoyed.”

Like a child just learning to speak, her words came out somewhat disordered—but Liu Qiu understood perfectly.

Her fingers paused on the tie. She looked up, her beautiful eyes clear and puzzled.

“Jinyin… I can’t kiss you.”

“You’ll feel disgusted.”

Fu Jinyin stared at her without moving, then said slowly, word by word:

“I want a kiss.”

“I don’t want to feel wronged.”

Liu Qiu pursed her lips, took a deep breath, and leaned up to kiss Fu Jinyin lightly on the chin before pulling away.

Fu Jinyin frowned.

“Not there.”

“The mouth.”

“Why… kiss others on the mouth?”

Liu Qiu felt dizzy. Why was Fu Jinyin still thinking about that?

Forget it.

She wasn’t the real Liu Qiu—she was the “Liu Qiu” who liked Fu Jinyin.

Of course she would agree to Fu Jinyin’s request.

Even though it was strange, Liu Qiu placed her hands on Fu Jinyin’s shoulders, rose slightly on her toes, and pressed her pink lips against Fu Jinyin’s.

Just as she was about to pull away, an arm suddenly tightened around her waist.

Her entire body was pulled into Fu Jinyin’s embrace.

Then her lips were pried open. Her mouth was invaded as Fu Jinyin’s tongue swept wildly through it.

Liu Qiu almost suffocated. Fu Jinyin was too strong. Like a child being held, she was completely enveloped in Fu Jinyin’s arms.

Fu Jinyin’s tongue was long too—it felt like it might reach her throat. The sensation made Liu Qiu’s eyes instantly fill with tears.

Uncomfortable, she clutched the back of Fu Jinyin’s clothes.

She didn’t know how long the kiss lasted before Fu Jinyin finally released her.

Liu Qiu felt as if her brain was starved of oxygen.

As their tongues separated, a thin silver thread stretched between them beneath Liu Qiu’s eyes.

Her cheeks flushed crimson as she panted for breath, blinking her tear-damp eyes pitifully at Fu Jinyin.

“Y-you can’t do that…”

Fu Jinyin clenched her fists and stared coldly at her.

“In the future, you can’t kiss anyone else.”

“You can’t cheat. You can’t make me wear a green hat.”

“I hate people like that. I hate them.”

Fu Jinyin usually spoke slowly and rarely said such a long sentence.

Liu Qiu’s face was red, and the corners of her eyes were red too, wet tears clinging there. She looked overly pitiful and innocent—but that only stirred even stronger desire in others.

She parted her swollen lips, still red from the kiss, and said softly,

“I understand.”

She no longer had the energy to explain that she hadn’t cheated recently.

She was truly exhausted.

Fu Jinyin was not only very strong—she also kissed very fiercely.

Even the root of her tongue felt numb.
