Chapter 70: Fran’s Daring Plan

Fran lay huddled in the corner, hesitating for a long time, unsure of whether he should take any action.

The hall was filled with people, and taking action would have been risky. However, the VIP room’s situation was suspicious, and a competent agent shouldn’t miss any opportunity to discover important intelligence.

Although the guards in the hall were vigilant and all belonged to the opposing side, this also meant that if he succeeded, his rewards would be greater.

Thus, Fran found himself in a state of indecision, wanting to investigate further but hesitating due to the tight security. After much thought, Fran shook his head, deciding to take a chance. He observed the people entering the VIP room to offer toasts, and sure enough, some women were also holding glasses of wine as they walked in, most of them accompanied by their husbands, but a few seemed to be alone.

Fran carefully studied their movements, committing them to memory, and then adjusted his hair, feigning a dazed look. He stumbled into the hall with unsteady steps.

Upon entering the hall, the ‘golden-haired girl’ mimicked the actions of the wealthy women, taking a glass of wine from the table and flicking her hair in front of the guard watching the table. She gave him a charming smile.

From the guard’s perspective, this adorable girl seemed to have just returned from the restroom, perhaps having momentarily left the banquet to use the facilities? The guard frowned, wondering… hadn’t he just seen her go to the restroom?

But Fran was already walking towards the VIP room with a glass in hand. He approached the door, and the two guards there gave him a strange look.

The young man’s heart was racing, but he dared not show it. He maintained a natural gaze as he looked at the guards. Normally, when someone wanted to enter the VIP room to offer a toast, the guards would automatically open the door to let them in. However, upon examining Fran’s appearance, the ‘girl’ was clearly intoxicated, and this made the guard frown. He immediately stopped her.

‘Sorry, miss, may I ask who you are?’

‘I… I want to go in and offer a toast. I’m… um… I’m so drunk I can’t remember my name…’

Fran sighed inwardly, realizing that a drunk girl was indeed suspicious. He held his head, pondering his next move.

Damn… These two actually check identities. I thought they were just standing guard. They didn’t ask anyone else’s identity as they came and went from the room.

Fran scratched his head in frustration, deciding that if all else failed, he would pretend to be drunk and force his way in. After all, these guards didn’t know him, and their status wasn’t high, so they might not dare to stop him. As for the people inside, they probably didn’t know him either…

With a resolute heart, Fran held the glass and, in a flash, ducked under the guard’s outstretched arm and pushed the door open. The door had almost opened, and Fran could vaguely see the people inside sitting around a round table, seemingly discussing something.

Vaguely, he heard something about ‘Philip’… But the guards at the door were quick to react. One pulled the door shut, while the other grabbed Fran and shouted, ‘What are you doing?!’

‘Ahhhh…’ Fran, caught, felt a pang of regret, but had no better plan. He pretended to be drunk and threw a tantrum, ‘I just wanted to offer a toast! Why are you making such a fuss? I… I need to use the restroom!’

Fran shook off the guard’s grip and ran towards the restroom.

‘What’s going on?’

A gentleman from the VIP room opened the door and asked the two guards sternly. The guards frowned, also feeling something was amiss, and saluted, ‘We’re not sure. Just now, a drunk young lady came to offer a toast. Who knows whose wife she is, she was completely wasted…’

‘Keep the door secure and don’t let anyone else in!’

The gentleman commanded, and the guards nodded in agreement.

‘Is that so…’

Fran quickly made his way to the hallway and turned to look back. It seemed no one was following him, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief. He slowly made his way to the restroom, took care of his needs, and then washed his face at the sink.

The cold water on his face made Fran shiver, and as he looked at his disheveled reflection in the mirror, he cursed himself for being useless. How could he get drunk every time he drank with Yuli? The alcohol must be spiked. Next time, he would definitely choose a low-alcohol drink that tasted like apple juice.

But… This time, he hadn’t come away completely empty-handed… He had encountered such a rare opportunity, and it was a shame he didn’t see more, thanks to the guards.

Everyone in the hall was Teutonic, which was clear from the guards speaking Teutonic. It seemed his Teutonic language skills had improved dramatically, allowing him to communicate with native speakers.

But in the VIP room, they were speaking a mix of Teutonic and Francian, which meant there might be Francian people inside as well. Who could they be? Philip… That name sounded familiar.

Come to think of it, on the day of the Fall, it was General Philip who issued the ceasefire declaration, but wasn’t he in the southern free zone? Could it be a coincidence?

Fran shook his head, dispelling the water droplets, and sighed that he hadn’t seen the key figures in the room, which was a shame. He wiped his eyes, and with a heavy head, turned to leave the restroom.

Going back to the hall was no longer an option, so he decided to go back and find Yuli. With this thought in mind, Fran slowly walked to the hallway corner, and suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows of the corner.

Fran observed carefully and was startled, immediately becoming more sober. He took two steps back, and the figure in the corner seemed to realize it had been discovered. It slowly stepped out.

The figure frightened Fran, who saw the man slowly approach. Fran instinctively felt the man’s deep hostility and realized… this person likely wasn’t heading to the restroom but was coming for him.

As the man came closer, he revealed a sinister smile and suddenly drew his gun.

‘Don’t move!’

The commanding tone sent a chill down Fran’s spine. He tensed, watching the man’s intentions closely.

But before the man could say another word, a silver figure suddenly appeared behind him.
