An official of the puppet government was chatting with a Teutonic officer beside him, accompanied by several people in uniform.
Yuli blinked, confirming that the Teutonic military administrators before her were all Gestalt personnel. She felt a twinge of displeasure.
This large-scale city government reconstruction was entirely under Gestalt’s charge, while her own Army Intelligence Division, directly under the military, hadn’t even gotten a piece of the action.
Hmm…
A sense of professional crisis lingered in Yuli’s heart. Somehow, she also sensed that this influx of Francian officials into Purburg seemed intentionally concealed from the Army Intelligence Division, with Gestalt handling everything.
Even the news of the banquet, she had only heard this morning.
Heh, let alone her, even her superior probably heard it this morning, right?
Being so secretive—what were they up to?
Or was this just how intelligence agencies operated?
Yuli frowned. Oh well, she couldn’t figure it out for now. She led Lyon forward, raised her glass, and stepped into the midst of the chatting group.
“Good afternoon, gentlemen.”
Yuli greeted them. Among them, a bald general immediately recognized her. Good heavens.
Wasn’t this the girl from last night?
“Haha, Miss Gustav! I didn’t expect to see you again today!”
The bald man cheerfully patted the shoulders of several officers beside him, then extended his hand to introduce them:
“This is Miss Yuli von Gustav, head of the Paris station of the Army Intelligence Division. She’s practically a colleague of ours! Haha—good afternoon, good afternoon!”
“Army Intelligence Division?!”
The Gestalt officer beside him glanced warily at Yuli, then turned to frown at the bald man.
The bald man shook his head and hinted casually, “It’s nothing. Today is just a welcome banquet for our Francian friends returning to Purburg. Eat well, have fun—that’s all that matters! Right, General Philip?”
He suddenly turned his gaze to General Philip, who was approaching from the side. Yuli followed his look and saw an old Francian man in military uniform standing there, his back slightly hunched.
Hearing the bald man’s question, he nodded awkwardly, his hands trembling slightly. An attendant quickly stepped forward to support him. It was clear his health was failing.
“General Philip?” Yuli blinked and bowed to him. She had some recollection of this man. “Are you the leader of the current Francian government, General Philip?”
“Cough, yes.” The old man coughed twice, then nodded. “That’s right. Eat well and have fun. No need to mind me, no need to mind me…”
Saying this, he strode off, ignoring the younger people’s discussion, and walked toward the center of the hall.
Yuli watched his receding figure, then turned back, puzzled, and said to Lyon beside her:
“How strange. Didn’t they say the Francian central government would stay in the south and not move to Purburg? Only the city government was moving. Why did he come…”
“To give a speech, to put up appearances and keep the Francians in Purburg in line.”
Lyon replied. He had arrived a bit earlier than Yuli and had already gathered this information.
Hmm…
Yuli nodded and said no more.
The bald man wanted to continue the conversation. It was rare to see a Teutonic girl at this banquet, and he was looking for some amusement. But clearly, the two before him had little interest in further talk with these Gestalt agents.
“Well, we’ll go take a look around. Excuse us!”
Lyon, seeing that they weren’t discussing anything serious and that these were Gestalt people, quickly led Yuli away. It was best to have as little interaction with them as possible.
They went to the other side, focusing on the officials of Purburg’s new city government attending the banquet, trying to establish connections and get to know them.
On the other side…
Fran sat on the sofa, awkwardly drinking in silence with the short-haired girl beside him.
This…
The atmosphere was extremely awkward. Fran couldn’t even speak. He didn’t know this girl named Liz well, and the memory of last night sent chills down his spine.
So the silence dragged on, neither speaking. Fran could only feel the occasional glance from her crimson eyes.
What a terrifying person…
Fran occasionally stole glances at Liz, mainly to observe her carefully.
Hmm…
She looked a bit like Yuli, especially with their silver hair giving both an inherent cool temperament.
But ever since he had spent time with Yuli, the aloof aura he once associated with her had crumbled. He felt she was… somewhat… arousing.
However, the icy aura enveloping this girl brought back that chilling sensation.
She seemed uninterested in everything. But… could she be like Yuli? Perhaps showing a different side in front of Lyon?
Hmm…
Fran wasn’t sure, but he felt Liz was different from Yuli. Making her show a different expression would probably be several times harder than with Yuli.
But that had nothing to do with him. Toward this dangerous person, aside from caution, he couldn’t muster any other thoughts.
All her enthusiasm seemed false; only her coldness was real.
Was her blood cold?
Fran wondered. Just then, the girl suddenly set down her glass, looked at the lost-in-thought Fran, and wore a playful smile.
“Mr. Fran seems to have something on his mind. I wonder if you’d be willing to share it with Liz?”
“Ah?”
Fran was startled. He hadn’t expected her to start a conversation with him. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say. He put down his glass and blinked awkwardly.
“Ahaha… um… well… I don’t have anything on my mind.” Fran looked away and shook his head. “Just… a little distracted.”
“I see. It is quite boring sitting here like this; it’s easy to get distracted.” Her voice was crisp and cool. Suddenly, she extended her hand to Fran and said softly:
“I wonder, Mr. Fran, if you’d like to dance with me?”
