Chapter 55: A Candlelight Dinner and Unspoken Intentions

Fran made his way back to the mansion, walking through the Purburg streets as dusk settled. A cool autumn breeze swept through the air.

His elongated shadow stretched before him in the setting sun. The whistling autumn wind brushed against his ears and face, leaving a slight dryness on his skin. The young man lowered his head, continuing his silent stride.

It was barely past six in the evening; he hadn’t been out for long. Fran carried two bags of groceries and cradled a Teutonic dictionary in his arm, his mind racing. ‘Could this… could this really work?’ he wondered.

With just these two items, would he be able to convince Yuli that this was all he had done during the time he was out?

If he returned with only groceries, it certainly wouldn’t suffice. Spending so much time just to buy a single trip’s worth of food?

‘Had he gone all the way to Brittany to buy groceries?’

‘Cough, cough. I wonder if Yuli has eaten dinner yet. Will I still have time to cook for her? Ugh…’

‘I should have spent less time buying groceries. It was pointless anyway. Sigh—’

‘Huh?’

‘Wait a minute, why am I so concerned about cooking for Yuli?’

‘Uh…’

Fran glanced at the crescent moon hanging in the sky, then silently repeated to himself… ‘It must be because I really want to put mustard in Yuli’s food. It must be because I really want to put mustard in Yuli’s food.’

‘Yes…’

‘That’s it!’

Shaking off the strange thoughts in his head, he returned to the mansion. Seeing that everyone was still busy with their own tasks, Fran looked left and right, then quietly went upstairs, intending to return to his room.

He opened his room door, but the scene behind it left Fran utterly astonished.

A round table was set beside his bed, flanked by two purple, soft-cushioned chairs. A few dishes of food were arranged on the table, and at its center stood a candelabra, casting a romantic glow that imbued the room with an ambiance Fran had never before experienced.

Finally, a silver-haired girl sat in one of the chairs, tilting her head and smiling at Fran. She wore only a sheer, pale-red silk dress. The candlelight illuminated her figure, making her seem ethereal. As she extended an arm, her sleeves fluttered like dancing butterflies, falling gracefully across her chest. Through the delicate threads, Fran could even glimpse her fair skin.

Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, with one section tied into a ponytail behind her. Red ribbons wrapped around her legs, and red silk adorned her delicate feet, adding a hint of allure. She resembled an exquisite porcelain doll.

She looked like a noble elf or a princess, appearing otherworldly and untouched by earthly concerns. Yet, her smile held a different kind of charm, her eyes seeming to captivate anyone who met her gaze.

“You’re back? Come in quickly, I’ve been waiting for you for ages,” Yuli said, beckoning Fran inside.

Fran froze, standing rooted to the spot, utterly bewildered.

“What’s wrong?” Seeing Fran still standing by the door, the silver-haired girl at the table looked puzzled. “Pfft, Fran, are you so hungry you’ve fainted? Come in, this is a special candlelight dinner I prepared tonight, as a formal apology. I know you must be very tired today.”

Fran shook his head, then took a few steps forward and sat down beside the dining table. He looked at Yuli before him, then lowered his head, a little embarrassed, and said, “No, I’m not very hungry. This… I just didn’t expect to see this scene.”

His mind was a jumble of emotions. ‘Good heavens, I was just thinking about making dinner, but not only has Yuli not eaten, she’s even prepared dinner for me!’

This sudden meal completely threw Fran off guard, making him feel a little nervous.

Seeing Fran’s reserved demeanor, the silver-haired girl pursed her lips and chuckled. “Then… why are you so stunned, you little dummy? Is it… because you’re mesmerized by your master’s outfit?”

“Uh…” Fran awkwardly scratched his head at her words, a blush creeping onto his face. “N-no… no…”

“Ha~” The silver-haired girl chuckled, then picked up her knife and fork, speared a piece of steak, and savored it, saying:

“How terrible, to be so captivated by a beautiful girl. Do you know that’s how you make mistakes? If I caught you, I could think of many ways to punish Fran~.”

“Uh…” Hearing her threat, Fran awkwardly averted his gaze. ‘This…’

“Cough, cough. Alright, no more idle chatter. After all, this is a rather formal apology dinner~” Yuli said, pulling a bottle of wine from beneath the table and placing it down with a thud, startling Fran.

‘Good heavens, what is she up to…’

Fran stared blankly at the wine bottle Yuli had placed on the table. Across from him, Yuli’s face was flushed as she touched the bottle’s neck, saying to Fran:

“Remember, Fran? The first time we met, we both got drunk after just a little wine~ But I felt it was so romantic, so how about we have a few more drinks together tonight? I specifically found this wine; it should taste… similar to what we drank back then?”

The girl glanced at the wine bottle, her face flushed and her eyes hazy. That single look was enough for Fran to realize something was amiss.

‘Good heavens, I knew something was up when Yuli suddenly went crazy, wearing such a… sexy outfit, speaking to me in such a frivolous tone, and her face all red. You definitely secretly had some drinks beforehand, didn’t you?’

‘Hmm… but speaking of which, the wine we drank when we first met was apparently specially made by Master. How could you find something similar?’

‘Hiss—’

Fran felt a little afraid, and he could only say to the girl before him, “Drinking is fine, but you’re not allowed to get handsy with me after drinking, hmm… especially since this is my room. Absolutely not!”

“Pfft, pfft, I won’t, I promise~” Yuli laughed, picking up a wine glass. The rich, ruby-red wine poured into the cup. She handed a glass to Fran, then poured one for herself, and raised her glass, saying, “Cheers!”

With things having reached this point, Fran felt it would be impolite to say more. He joined Yuli in drinking the wine.

Gulp, gulp—

Haa—

Fran felt a burning sensation in his throat. ‘No, this isn’t the alcohol content red wine should have, is it? This…’

Fran frowned, sensing something ominous. If he kept drinking like this, he would definitely get drunk tonight.

But…

Looking at the girl before him, who even speared a piece of steak and extended her arm to feed him, Fran could only open his mouth, a little embarrassed, and then…

He took the bite.

*Slurp*~

The rich, savory juices flowed between Fran’s lips and teeth, incredibly sweet. Fran couldn’t help but praise:

“Mm, it’s really delicious.”

“It’s delicious, isn’t it~?” Hearing Fran’s compliment, the silver-haired girl across from him smiled contentedly, her eyes narrowing into slits. She grinned at Fran and said, “This… hmm… although I didn’t make it, I had the maids prepare it. How about it? Isn’t your master thoughtful?”

“Tsk—” Fran disdainfully shook his head. ‘Ugh… no, I can’t shake my head, I’m getting a little dizzy.’

As he ate the lavish dinner before him, he began to ponder. ‘No, I can’t drag this out any longer. I need to find a chance to pry some information from Yuli, otherwise, we’ll both be completely drunk soon.’

Gathering his courage, he spoke to the rosy-cheeked girl before him, “Yuli…”

“Hmm? Do you… do you want to sleep together?”

The slightly tipsy girl looked earnestly at Fran, blinking her eyes.
