Join the ServerThe convoy slowly made its way into the city center, finally stopping in front of a five-story building. A row of men in black military uniforms stood at the entrance, rifles in hand, their faces stern and eyes cold and imposing.
As the vehicles came to a halt, several men in well-tailored suits walked over. They were burly, with resolute expressions.
“Commander!” the leader of the group saluted Yuli.
“Mm, you’ve all worked hard,” the silver-haired girl nodded in response.
The leading soldier opened the car door and stepped aside. Yuli and Fran climbed out. The soldier’s gaze swept the area, then settled on the silver-haired girl. “Commander, please come in.”
Yuli nodded slightly, took Fran’s hand, and stepped through the doorway. Behind them, the other invited guests from the mansion followed.
The interior was luxuriously decorated, resplendent and magnificent. A large hall was filled with people, many of whom were high-profile figures.
Yet they appeared remarkably approachable, without any airs, all smiling warmly at the guests. These were all high-ranking officers of the Teutonic garrison.
Fran blinked, taking in the harmonious atmosphere of the hall. He guessed that the guests here were no ordinary people. Turning his head, he saw indeed many people were still entering.
Middle-aged men in suits or pre-war Francian military uniforms walked into the room, eagerly stepping forward to shake hands and exchange pleasantries with the Teutonic officials. It was a scene of great cordiality.
Fran and Yuli stood to the side, a bit awkward.
But soon, Yuli, standing in a corner, spotted a pair of “old acquaintances”!
In a far corner of the hall, Lyon was holding the arm of a silver-haired short-haired girl, cheerfully chatting away.
Fran was also stunned. For a moment, he couldn’t believe his eyes. He blinked, rubbed them, and looked again…
This… it really was that Lyon!
This guy brought his girlfriend to the banquet too?
Wait… why did I say “too”?
Ahem… hold on…
That girl next to him, who looked like his girlfriend, isn’t that… isn’t that?
Fran’s eyes widened. He whispered incredulously to Yuli, “Liz?!”
“Huh? Looks like it! They arrived before us~” Yuli didn’t seem as surprised as Fran. Instead, she started walking over to chat with them.
Fran quickly grabbed her. Yuli turned her head, blinking curiously, seemingly puzzled why he stopped her.
The young man shook his head. “Something’s off, Yuli. Why are they together? And… so intimate?”
Huh?
Yuli tossed her hair, puzzled. “They’ve been together for a long time. They’ve interacted a lot in the mansion, haven’t you noticed? I thought you knew…”
Huh?
Fran was taken aback. He thought back carefully.
It seemed… indeed, they occasionally hung out together. Sometimes they would appear together in the hall, whispering about something. Looking at them, it felt like they were hiding some secret.
Fran frowned, trying to recall. Suddenly he realized why he hadn’t noticed they were a couple before.
Well…
But…
Seeing a spy chief who had long suspected his identity and a maid who had been constantly monitoring him whispering to each other… he had assumed they were planning some conspiracy against him.
That seemed reasonable enough, didn’t it?
Um…
Fran scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed for misjudging them.
But soon, his vigilance rose. He suddenly thought of something, frowned, and a terrifying suspicion surfaced in his mind.
What if those two were using the surveillance of his every move as a common topic?
Hiss—
The mere thought made Fran shudder.
Alright, now that he knew Liz and Lyon had a special relationship, he would have to be even more wary of Liz.
Seeing that Fran had no more objections, Yuli patted his head, then took his hand and walked toward Lyon, planning to chat with friends instead of just standing around.
As they approached, Fran gradually caught the conversation between the couple…
“Quite a grand occasion today…” Lyon raised his glass and looked at Liz. The girl remained silent, just reaching out to adjust his tie, then said calmly:
“After all, so many people came.”
“Yes, but I don’t really like crowded places—too noisy and bustling. Sorry for bringing you to such an environment. I wanted some time alone with you, but circumstances don’t seem to allow it.”
Lyon looked up and suddenly saw Yuli walking toward them. His brow relaxed, and he waved at her.
“Tsk, such a workaholic, my spy sir,” Liz laughed.
Fran was surprised to see her laugh like that. During his days in the mansion, he had never seen such a natural smile from her. Her previous cold or teasing smiles always made his hair stand on end.
Now Liz noticed Lyon’s gesture. She turned her head and saw Yuli and Fran approaching. She gave them a slight nod.
“Oh, come on! How can circumstances not allow it? If you two want to go out, just go. It’s not like you don’t have any leave. Besides, I’m here at work!”
Yuli waved her hand, teasing Lyon, clearly having overheard his words.
Lyon shrugged and smiled. “I wouldn’t dare. It wouldn’t be good if something got delayed.”
He had no complaints about work—it was his profession. If he didn’t work hard, he would be letting down the opportunity his father had given him.
“Hey hey hey, don’t imply that I’m slacking off! I don’t neglect my work either!”
The speaker meant no harm, but the listener took it to heart. Yuli pouted unhappily. Lyon scratched his head awkwardly. “I didn’t mean it like that, Sister Yuli…”
“Hah, in Lyon’s eyes, a lover is just a dispensable thing. How could it be as important as work~” Liz chimed in, turning away with a look of disdain.
Lyon didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. You too?
But this remark amused Yuli. She shook her head with a grin, then looked back. “Lyon, let’s go over and chat with those generals.”
She pointed at a few generals chatting nearby. Lyon nodded. A banquet was meant for moving around.
Yuli patted Fran’s head and said seriously, “Stay here with Liz for a while. Don’t wander off. Work calls—we’ll be back soon!”
Fran pursed his lips at that.
Tsk. Are we part of the officers’ wives club?
