Chapter 23: The Loli Mom

Mo Xiao’s eyes lit up. She quickly grabbed the box and excitedly ran off to scrape the jade pool mud.

“Alright, let’s go find the Qinggu Flowers now.”

A moment later, she had scraped mud off eight jade pool fish. The mud wasn’t dark at all—instead, it was as white as jade.

Of course, the smell wasn’t pleasant. It carried a strong, fishy, earthy stench.

Meanwhile, Bai Yuan had already snapped out of her daze. Watching Mo Xiao organize the collected spiritual materials in front of her, she couldn’t help but ask:

“Mo Xiao, why did you make that kind of request earlier? Were you feeling lonely at night?”

Sometimes Bai Yuan couldn’t even tell which parts of her own character settings still applied. It felt like Mo Xiao wasn’t entirely acting according to them.

A proud, arrogant brat like her had actually shown such shy embarrassment just now—the contrast was so strong it made Bai Yuan melt a little.

“Hmph! Stupid Master, this dragon did it so you’d behave better when sleeping at night.”

Mo Xiao’s pretty face flushed slightly. She absolutely refused to admit she felt lonely at night… if anything, it was more in the mornings.

In her previous life, Bai Yuan had been very clingy—she always held her while sleeping.

But now, she didn’t anymore.

These past few days, she had slept soundly, but every time she woke up in the morning, there was always a faint sense of loneliness.

“Alright, you stubborn little thing. Where are the Qinggu Flowers?”

By now, Bai Yuan wasn’t annoyed anymore. She just took it as the little one being tsundere.

She had noticed that this young dragon often did things that didn’t match what she said.

Even though her attitude was rough, her actions always showed concern.

“They’re to the west of the forest we were just in. There are some in the north too, but let’s go to the closer western side.”

Mo Xiao zipped up her bag and took the lead. Her ink-black twin ponytails swayed behind her like two lively little tails.

Bai Yuan smiled faintly and followed behind the small dragon. She was starting to like this little one.

Along the way, they found quite a few spiritual materials. True to her “never waste anything” principle, Mo Xiao collected a small portion of each.

Just a little was enough—she didn’t need much. These were only meant for constructing special terrain features later on land.

After about an hour, the two arrived at a part of the forest filled with towering trees.

They hid behind a large tree. Ahead to their left, a disciplinary committee student was searching for something.

“Why are there more of them here?”

Bai Yuan asked in her mind, puzzled. She had thought the three from earlier were all of them.

After all, she was just a first-year student—her Book Spirit shouldn’t be strong enough to warrant sending so many people.

“He’s not looking for us. Probably just collecting materials.”

Mo Xiao glanced over and made a quick judgment.

From the way the tall student moved and scanned the area, he looked exactly like someone searching for Qinggu Flowers.

“Oh, that makes sense… the seniors also need materials. But he doesn’t even have a bag—where would he store them?”

Bai Yuan initially agreed, but after peeking out, she noticed he wasn’t carrying any container, which felt off.

“Then maybe he was originally with that group but changed his mind midway instead of coming after us.”

Leaning against her master, Mo Xiao shamelessly nestled into Bai Yuan’s arms—the tree wasn’t big enough to hide both of them anyway.

Not only did Bai Yuan not object, she happily hugged her, which left Mo Xiao feeling conflicted.

Why isn’t this stupid master resisting anymore?

This young dragon was a bit contradictory.

She wanted her master to be closer to her—but also wanted to bicker, so she could fully act out her “arrogant brat” persona.

“Let’s wait for him to leave. Searching like that, he won’t find anything without luck.”

Feeling the softness behind her, a blush crept onto Mo Xiao’s face, and even her tone softened.

Bai Yuan silently nodded, feeling a bit pleased.

She seemed to have discovered a way to deal with the young dragon’s sharp tongue—just make her shy, and she’d stop saying harsh things.

Once hugged, Mo Xiao became much more docile.

This discovery excited Bai Yuan more than finding spiritual materials. She couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at her lips.

Suddenly, Mo Xiao heard the student outside quicken his pace, as if he had found something.

“No way… is this guy really that lucky?”

She peeked out and saw the tall student following a small, glowing green fairy deeper into the forest.

“That’s a Book Spirit, right? Such a cute little fairy.”

Bai Yuan peeked out as well, catching sight of the tiny winged creature that looked like a flower spirit.

“So it’s him… I vaguely remember.”

Seeing the Book Spirit, a fragment of memory surfaced in Mo Xiao’s mind.

At the Spirit Creation Tournament two weeks later, that little fairy would perform exceptionally well.

In the end, that student was taken away early by the military—and later developed quite well, even becoming an eighth-rank Spirit Creator before the divine war.

Bai Yuan had fought alongside him before, so Mo Xiao had some impression of him.

Of course, an eighth-rank was still cannon fodder in the divine war.

His ending had been rather tragic—he died holding off enemies for his teammates, his body never recovered.

“Let’s ignore him. We’ll go the other way.”

Mo Xiao didn’t intend to get involved with him. Even if he hadn’t joined the others earlier, his attitude might not be much better.

From what she remembered, he was a rigid, overly righteous type—someone with his own strict sense of justice.

Mo Xiao didn’t really understand people like that. In short, he was old-fashioned and not someone worth getting close to.

“Oh, okay… sigh, I originally wanted to create a fairy too. It’s just… they’re so small. Even if they’re cute, they…”

“They can’t be your mom, right?”

Mo Xiao rolled her eyes and cut her off bluntly.

“Wha—! How did you know?”

Bai Yuan felt like her Book Spirit could read minds. It was as if none of her secrets could be hidden.

“You wrote it yourself, dummy master. It’s in your draft notebook~”

Mo Xiao’s cheeks were being stretched by Bai Yuan’s hands, making her voice sound distorted.

“Waaah!! I can’t live like this anymore!”

Blushing furiously, Bai Yuan hugged Mo Xiao tightly, burying her face in the small dragon’s back.

Waaah… why did she dig up my embarrassing past… so humiliating!!

“I can be your loli mom too, you know. Why not take a look at your cute little dragon~”

Hearing Bai Yuan’s wail, Mo Xiao was secretly delighted.

Want a big, mature “mommy-type” figure? Dream on.

A loli mom wasn’t bad either—besides, she had plenty of experience playing that role.

“No way! I can’t accept a mom this small! What kind of mother is smaller than her daughter?”

Bai Yuan puffed her cheeks and refused outright.

Even though she had once glimpsed a hint of maternal warmth in Mo Xiao, her tiny body made it impossible to see her as a “mother.”
