Join the ServerAfter the pleasantries, Yuli led the group toward the entrance. Seeing her, the guard didn’t ask any more questions and obediently cleared the way.
As they stepped into the mansion, they nearly bumped into Lyon and Quidar.
The two men stared at the unfamiliar faces behind Yuli, first stunned, then suspicious.
“This… who are all these people?”
Yuli proudly shook her head in front of them, unable to suppress a cocky grin. “Ah, perfect timing! Lyon, Captain Quidar, let me introduce you!”
Yuli stepped aside and pushed Kate forward. “This is Miss Kate Cillin, the newly appointed head of the station’s security team from Purburg, and an old friend of mine. She’ll be in charge of everyone’s safety from now on. The people behind her are the new security team members.”
“Kate, this is Deputy Station Chief Lyon—I’ve told you about him—and that gentleman with the more mature look over there is our special operations team captain, Quidar.”
“Oh, Miss Kate!” Lyon, Yuli’s childhood friend, seemed to have heard of Kate. Were they… friends of friends?
Lyon quickly stepped forward to shake her hand. Kate nodded cheerfully. “Deputy Station Chief Lyon, I’ve heard a lot about you. Please take care of me.”
“Likewise! I hope you’ll take care of us, Miss Kate.”
After shaking hands, Kate turned to Quidar. “Captain Quidar, you’re in charge of the special operations team, correct?”
“Yes, any problem?” Quidar wondered why she asked.
Kate shrugged and spread her hands. “The higher-ups want to reduce the functions of the special ops team. From now on, security inside and outside the mansion will be handled by the security team. The special ops team will mainly handle external missions. Also… we need to reduce some of the personnel in the special ops team.”
“Reduce personnel? This… why?” Quidar was startled.
“Uh, it’s the higher-ups’ arrangement. I’m just here to inform you.” Kate gave an awkward smile.
Quidar’s face showed displeasure. Seeing her smile, he felt provoked and annoyed. ‘Pretending to be clueless…’
He turned away in frustration. ‘What higher-ups’ decision? It’s all because of whatever Yuli wrote in her report. Now she sends her trusted people to take over security and cut my department’s staff. How could I not be dissatisfied? But what can I say? If it’s Purburg’s order, my protest is useless.’
‘But… I can’t swallow this!’ He gritted his teeth silently and said only, “Understood.”
The atmosphere turned awkward. After a long pause, Yuli gave two embarrassed laughs. ‘This… Kate’s sudden announcement caught me off guard too. She didn’t tell me about this earlier. I didn’t ask the higher-ups to cut personnel… I just said I wanted some of my own people.’
‘Good grief… this… seems like Purburg made the decision for me directly.’
Yuli scratched her head awkwardly. She hadn’t wanted to go this far, but… the order had come down. She couldn’t say anything, so she changed the subject, took Kate’s hand, and whispered, “Let me take you to find a place to settle in first.”
Lyon approached eagerly. “I’ll arrange it!”
“Hmm…” Yuli glanced at the takeout bag in her hand and nodded honestly. “Then you handle it.”
“Wait, don’t be in such a hurry…” Kate smiled, took out a medal, and handed it to Yuli. “I haven’t finished telling you, Station Chief Yuli…”
She stood on tiptoe and whispered something in Yuli’s ear. Yuli was startled, then gripped the medal tightly and solemnly put it away. “Good, I understand!”
The silver-haired girl nodded excitedly. Kate smiled, then led her team to follow Lyon to find their quarters.
Clutching the medal, Yuli took a deep breath, then pulled Fran—who had been silent—away from the hall and upstairs.
On the stairs, Fran finally spoke, curious. “What does that medal from Miss Kate mean? It’s so mysterious…”
Yuli chuckled and ruffled Fran’s hair. “I got a promotion! From Major to Lieutenant Colonel. This medal… symbolizes honor!”
“Huh?” Fran blinked, confused. “This… because of last time?”
“Uh…” Yuli looked at the ground sheepishly, shaking her head. “No, mainly because my current position as station chief doesn’t match a Major’s rank. It’s too low, so they promoted me. Last time was just an excuse.”
“Hmm…” Fran nodded, feeling a bit helpless. This Yuli was quite honest with herself. At least she had some self-awareness. Fran didn’t say much. It was getting late. Yuli had originally planned to eat the takeout with Fran, but seeing he had no interest, she blinked and asked disappointedly, “Don’t you want to try some together? It’s precious…”
Fran shook his head. He had given Yuli enough candy today; it was time to use the stick to keep her from getting too pushy. He stretched, pretending to be tired. “Forget it, I’m going to sleep. I’m heading to my room.”
“Oh, okay…” Yuli nodded and watched him leave.

At his own door, the golden-haired boy frowned. Huh? Why was the light on in his room? Startled, he quickly pushed the door open to see.
A silver-haired girl with short hair was sitting at his desk. A drawer was pulled out, revealing his Teutonic language study materials. Fran’s eyes widened, his heart pounding with nervousness.
The maid named Liz turned her head, her bewitching red eyes glancing at the panicked Fran. She gave a meaningful smile and said softly, “Good evening, Sister Yuli’s little puppy?”
“Who… who’s a puppy?!” Fran rushed forward in anger. “Who let you into my room?! Entering without my permission is so rude!”
“Just a routine inspection. As head maid, I have this authority. Don’t mind it.” Liz stood up with a smirk, bowed to Fran, and slipped away.
Fran was momentarily stunned by her words. When he came to, she was already gone. He frowned, breathing heavily, clutching his chest, and checked the drawer. Fortunately… he had hidden truly secret things elsewhere.
But… recalling Liz’s expression, he felt a lingering fear. He quickly searched his room to ensure it was safe. No listening devices, the codebook was still in place, untouched. Fran sighed in relief. ‘Thank goodness… That girl is really terrifying.’
