Chapter 10: A Glimpse of Beauty Unfolds

Luo Xiaoyun arrived at the school’s public restroom. After a quick look around to ensure no one was there, she quietly slipped into the women’s bathroom.

She went to the innermost stall and locked the door.

With a thought, the celadon dress appeared in her hands. The fabric was light as water, cool and smooth to the touch.

She clumsily pulled it over herself; the feel of silk against her skin was strange. It took several tries to tie the sash at her waist into a proper curve.

She felt her hair growing. Silver-white strands fell from her shoulders, reaching down to her waist.

Something cold and smooth was gently inserted into her hair—a jade hairpin that swept up a lock, leaving the rest to cascade like a waterfall. A light makeup appeared on her face, perfecting her already delicate features.

After dressing, she went to the sink. The mirror above showed her full reflection.

She stared for a long time, then unconsciously a tiny smile lifted the corners of her mouth. “Miss… actually looks quite pretty,” she whispered, then startled herself, her cheeks flushing crimson.

Deep in Luo Xiaoyun’s mind, a white-haired loli who looked no more than thirteen or fourteen was curled up in a lounge chair, swinging her feet. She held a glass of red wine, taking small sips, her eyes curved like crescent moons.

If Luo Xiaoyun could see this, she’d probably jump in anger—the System Sister who always caused trouble in her head was actually this petite and cute little girl.

“Oh my,” the System Sister said, swirling her glass, looking at Luo Xiaoyun’s dazed face on the screen before her. “My little Yun finally begins to appreciate her own beauty.”

She snapped her fingers, and a list of tasks popped up in front of her.

“From now on, I need to give her more ‘good’ tasks to help her adapt.”

Luo Xiaoyun left the restroom and headed toward the library.

Then, the world fell silent for a moment.

Passing students stopped in their tracks. The boy on the bicycle forgot to pedal. The girl carrying books halted, her gaze following the cyan figure.

Silver hair gleamed like pearls under the sun. The green dress swayed with each step, revealing slender ankles. She didn’t walk fast, even a bit stiff, but carried a contradictory air of coolness and fragility.

“Is that… from our school?”

“A freshman? Haven’t seen her on the campus beauty list!”

“Her looks are stunning…”

“Quick, take a photo!”

“…”

Whispers spread like a tide. Someone raised their phone; the shutter clicks were soft but frequent. Luo Xiaoyun felt her back tingling, her pace quickening until she was almost jogging.

But she didn’t know that those photos had already spread like a virus.

Room 118, Boys’ Dormitory.

Xu Xiangyang suddenly bounced up from his bed, holding up his phone and shouting, “Holy crap! Check the forum! New campus beauty!”

Zhou Yu’an and Cheng Fang crowded over at the same time. On the screen was a candid shot: a girl in a green dress with silver hair stood sideways in front of the library, sunlight gilding the tips of her hair.

The resolution wasn’t high, but it couldn’t hide her breathtaking beauty.

“With that face…” Zhou Yu’an swallowed. “Is she a fairy descending to earth?”

Cheng Fang squinted, staring for a long time, then suddenly said, “Don’t you think… her profile looks like Lao San?”

Meanwhile, Luo Xiaoyun was stuck at the library entrance.

She felt all over her dress for nonexistent pockets, suddenly remembering that her student ID was on her dorm bed.

Entry required registration. The senior on duty sat behind the desk at the entrance, head down, scrolling through his phone.

‘What now?’ she wailed internally.

“Flirt,” the System Sister’s voice was crisp and decisive. “With that face of yours, no one can resist if you act a little cute.”

“I-I can’t!”

“Just imagine your cutest look and say something in a soft voice.” The System Sister’s face was full of mischief. “Or the mission fails, and you’ll have to go back to the dorm to be ‘dealt with.'”

Luo Xiaoyun recalled the punishment for mission failure and shuddered.

Gritting her teeth, she walked to the registration desk.

The senior heard footsteps without looking up. “Student ID.”

“Um…” Luo Xiaoyun started, her voice so soft it gave herself goosebumps. “Senior… I forgot my student ID… Could you make an exception?”

The senior’s fingers paused. He looked up. Their eyes met.

Time seemed to freeze for a few seconds.

The senior’s expression shifted from routine coldness, to a daze, then to an almost flustered warmth, flowing seamlessly.

“Of-of course!” He nearly jumped out of his chair. “You’re here to read, right? Please come in!”

Luo Xiaoyun was a bit stunned by this sudden enthusiasm, but still managed to squeeze out a smile. “Thank you, Senior… Sorry for the trouble.”

“No trouble at all!” The senior’s eyes lit up. “Um… what’s your name? I’m Chen Mo, a sophomore.”

Luo Xiaoyun thought for a moment. “I’m… Luo Zhiyao.”

“Luo Zhiyao… a beautiful name.” Chen Mo repeated, his gaze tender enough to drip water. “Junior Zhiyao, feel free to come often. I’m on duty here a lot!”

“Okay, thank you, Senior.”

She walked quickly into the library, not stopping until she turned a corner of a bookshelf, then leaned against a wall and let out a long breath.
