After a weak fit of coughing, Superion slowly drank the healing potion Xiamiya handed him.
As the healing force spread, the pain on Superion’s face eased slightly.
Seeing this, Xiamiya felt a bit relieved. Earlier, when her father suddenly clutched his chest in agony, the cherry-haired girl had been truly frightened.
After placing the empty bowl on the side table, Xiamiya asked timidly:
“Father, were you serious about what you just said?”
“Heh heh.”
Recovering his breath, Superion leaned back against the bed and chuckled.
“What, little Miya thinks Daddy was playing with you?”
“Weren’t you? How can you joke about something like this!”
“No, I wasn’t joking.”
Meeting Xiamiya’s shocked gaze, Superion said seriously.
Then, as if to prove his words, he slowly raised his hand.
“Whoosh~”
A dense surge of crimson holy power swirled, and a summoning array covered in ancient script materialized before Xiamiya.
Under the shocked gaze of the demon god girl, a golden token the size of a playing card, engraved with a holy cross, emerged from the array.
Holding the token, Superion placed it directly into Xiamiya’s hand.
“Th-this is?”
Trembling, Xiamiya looked at the token in her hand, doubting her own eyes.
During her year in the Holy Domain, Youka had forcibly crammed her with knowledge of this world. The Xiamiya of now was no longer the illiterate girl she had been over a year ago—she recognized this object at once.
“The Heavenly Mandate Token?!”
The Heavenly Mandate Token was no ordinary thing—it was a gift from the Goddess of Creation. There were nine such tokens on Blue Star. Those who held them were the nine beings with the title of ‘King,’ the rulers of nine great nations. Her father, the Holy King Superion, was one of those nine.
Holding the Heavenly Mandate Token meant being recognized by the Goddess of Creation, possessing the authority to rule a country. For the nine great nations, including the Holy Kingdom Ophelia, the highest symbol of power was never a throne or a crown—trivial things—but this token brimming with divine power.
At this moment, Xiamiya no longer doubted Superion’s sincerity.
‘Father… he’s serious?’
“Why me?” Xiamiya looked at Superion in confusion.
Becoming Holy King could indeed solve many problems for Xiamiya, especially silencing those lunatics in Starfall Palace, but the news was too sudden; she still couldn’t accept it.
“Because you are the most suitable person to be Holy King.”
Holding Xiamiya’s small hand, Superion said solemnly:
“The situation in the country is very chaotic now. Take this token and find the new chancellor, Enqize. When he sees it, he will unconditionally help you unite the royalists. And you, girl, must have won over Baroyena by now, right? With that, the Holy Domain faction plus most of the royalists should stabilize the current political situation.”
“Father? Wh-what are you talking about?” Xiamiya asked, utterly bewildered.
“And I’m supposed to unite everyone? Shouldn’t Helibea be doing this? No, this token should go to her! She is definitely more suited to be Holy King than I am.”
“No, she can’t.”
Superion shook his head with mixed emotions.
“Little Miya, you may not want to believe what I’m about to say, but… you must know that I am speaking the truth.”
“Wh-what?”
“Helibea, your older sister, has changed. She is not… everything is connected to her. After Diana died, I did order them to clear your name, but my order was intercepted by He…?!”
However,
before he could finish,
Superion’s face suddenly turned pale, his brows furrowing as if struck by severe pain. His body trembled, his lips quivered, and then he violently spewed several mouthfuls of blood. The blood arced through the air, splattering onto the ground in a shocking display.
“Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough!!!”
Unlike the earlier spitting, this time a great torrent of blood gushed from Superion’s mouth. It was clearly a response to a lethal attack.
?!
The moment she saw this, Xiamiya’s heart plummeted. Panic seized her instantly. Her eyes widened; she sat frozen, as if the entire world was collapsing around her. Her breathing quickened, her rainbow-colored eyes filling with boundless fear and worry.
“Father!”
After a brief shock, the cherry-haired girl nearly screamed, her voice trembling with despair. She rushed forward, supporting Superion’s swaying body.
When her fingers touched his skin, feeling the rapidly fading warmth, her terror deepened. Superion’s face grew paler, his life force draining away. The once-strong holy energy field around him collapsed.
His vision blurred, his breathing grew fainter. He struggled to open his eyes, trying to control his condition and comfort the panicked Xiamiya, but his words were cut off by violent coughing, blood spilling from his mouth.
“Cough, cough!”
“Th-this is? Poison?!”
Seeing the black blood and her father’s reaction, Xiamiya quickly deduced the truth.
‘Why? Why sudden poison? What is going on?!’
Though she had diagnosed her father’s poisoning, Xiamiya knew nothing of medicine, let alone how to treat a poisoned person.
In her panic, she let out a heart-wrenching cry for help:
“Quick!! Is anyone there?! Father is poisoned!! You! Youka!!! Youka!!!”
The cherry-haired girl cried out desperately, instinctively calling Youka’s name.
From the look of things, if the poison wasn’t controlled soon, her father would be in mortal danger.
At the thought of losing her beloved father, unprecedented fear spread through her heart.
“Someone, help!! The Holy King is poisoned!!!”
Xiamiya’s voice broke with sobs.
As the center of the Holy Royal Palace, the Sun Crown Palace where the Holy King resided was always on high alert.
So,
the moment Xiamiya’s scream pierced the air, the heavy doors burst open. The black-haired maid who had guided Xiamiya earlier rushed in alongside another servant.
“Wh-what’s wrong? Xia… Huh?! Your Majesty!!”
Before they could even ask, upon seeing Superion coughing blood in Xiamiya’s arms, their faces changed drastically.
“Quick, call a doctor!!” Xiamiya shouted at them.
But to her shock, the two servants acted in perfect unison, as if they had rehearsed it. In the next instant, they both crushed the emergency tokens they carried.
“—Princess Xiamiya has assassinated the Holy King!! Attempting usurpation! Requesting backup!!!”
As the black-haired maid’s words reached her ears, Xiamiya’s eyes narrowed.
“Hey!! Wh-what are you saying?!”
