Chapter 62: A Father’s Apology

“Come, let me have a good look at you, little Miya.”

“Mm!”

After Superion’s call, Xiamiya did not hesitate to rush forward, her eyes shimmering with complex emotions—gratitude, nostalgia, and an endless familial bond. The cherry-blossom-haired girl threw herself into Superion’s embrace, wrapping her arms tightly around the old man’s waist, as if trying to convey all her feelings through this hug.

In that moment, Xiamiya completely abandoned her usual composure and feigned profundity, burying her head in Superion’s chest like a spoiled child seeking her father’s affection. For a time, the Sun Crown Palace presented a warm and touching scene.

“Heh, little girl.”

Superion was slightly taken aback, then a loving smile spread across his face. He gently reached out and patted Xiamiya’s back, each stroke of his hand filled with deep love and care. His movements were soft yet firm, bringing Xiamiya an unprecedented sense of peace.

“You’ve been through a lot these days, Xiamiya,” Superion said softly.

Unlike the false concern Mitis had shown her earlier, Superion’s words were filled with genuine care.

“Father, I… I’ve missed you so much…” Xiamiya’s voice trembled with emotion. Pressed against Superion’s chest, she could feel his heartbeat—a familiar rhythm that brought her immense comfort and warmth. Her eyes glistened with moisture.

Superion lowered his head, gazing at Xiamiya warmly. “I’ve missed you too, little girl.”

After a few tens of seconds of solace, Xiamiya gradually calmed down. She slowly lifted her head, pursed her lips, and looked at Superion with a rather aggrieved expression.

“Father, you’re too much. You only agreed to see me now.”

“Sorry, Xiamiya.” Superion said with guilt. “These days, I’ve been under some special restrictions, so I couldn’t find you. Please forgive me, my child.”

“No, no, it’s okay… I just… wanted to complain a little.”

Then, with a pained tone, she asked: “But Father, how… how did you end up like this?”

Seeing Superion now—his hair white, his body frail, no longer the majestic figure he once was—Xiamiya felt both heartbroken and bewildered. After all, three years ago, when her father was severely injured, she had not seen him since. Although she knew he had become weak from his injuries, the reality was far worse than she had imagined.

“What exactly happened? Why did it come to this? What happened back then?”

In Xiamiya’s heart, Superion had always been great and powerful. Even now, she couldn’t believe anyone could have wounded her father so grievously.

“Who did this to you?”

Faced with his daughter’s confusion, Superion smiled bitterly. “Who? A traitor.”

“A traitor?”

“Yes. It’s a classified matter, but it’s time I told you, since you need to know.” Without hiding the truth, Superion spoke slowly: “Do you remember what happened to Diana?”

Hearing this, Xiamiya trembled and lowered her head in deep guilt. At the mention of the Second Holy Princess Diana Seraphiel, Xiamiya clenched her fists tightly.

“Sister Diana, I…”

“Remember, Xiamiya, the rumors outside are all false. Diana’s death was not your fault.”

“Huh? N-not my fault?” Xiamiya was stunned.

For the past few years, Xiamiya had always believed that during the hunting season, Sister Diana died in the Eastern Beast Forest because of her own eagerness to prove herself. She thought Diana was attacked by a beast horde while saving her. Thus, Xiamiya had been consumed by guilt, believing her own foolishness had killed her second sister.

Of course, not just Xiamiya—the entire theocratic nation of Ophelia seemed to think the same. Diana was beautiful, kind, wise, and visionary, with high prestige among the people.

Therefore, Xiamiya, who had caused Diana’s death, once became the target of public condemnation by tens of millions of people in the nation. It was from then that the attitudes of those in the Holy Royal Palace toward her turned sharply. She became the despised “Cursed Child,” and the title “Sabuyel’s Cursed Child” spread throughout the nation.

Xiamiya had carried this burden for years. Suddenly learning that it was not her fault left the evil god girl frozen in place.

After a moment, she spoke shakily: “Then… who… who was it?”

“Kroede-Mobius.”

“Kroede? The former prime minister who disappeared a few years ago? He… he is the one who killed Sister Diana?”

“Yes. Otherwise, with Diana’s strength, she wouldn’t have died at the hands of a beast horde.”

“But Prime Minister Kroede had a good reputation. Why would he do this?”

“Strictly speaking, it wasn’t him. The real Kroede died long ago; someone else took his place. That imposter is a Great Sin Apostle from the Cursed Abyss Tower.”

“A Great Sin Apostle?”

“Yes. His goal for infiltrating our nation seemed to be collecting souls. He targeted Diana because he coveted the Spirit Puppet she had contracted. After discovering the truth, I led the main force of the Star Cross Knights to eliminate Zholu.”

At this point, Superion’s expression was filled with an indescribable sadness and deep self-blame. “The result was a disastrous defeat. During his years in hiding, Zholu had already gained control over another Spirit Puppet, the Ice Princess. The place where Zholu stayed was also heavily ambushed by Abyss Tower personnel. Not only was I severely injured, tortured by Zholu’s curse into this wretched state, but those thousands of elite soldiers… I led them to their deaths.”

Clenching his fists, Superion’s eyes were full of regret. “If I had been calmer, I would have seen that bastard’s trap. But… sigh, I am an unworthy king.”

After a helpless self-deprecating laugh, Superion looked back at the stunned cherry-blossom-haired girl. “So you see, you didn’t kill Diana.”

“I… I see…”

At that moment, the heavy stone of guilt in Xiamiya’s heart shattered into pieces. But along with the relief came an unprecedented sense of grievance.

“Father, since you knew all along that I didn’t kill Sister Diana, why… why didn’t you tell others?”

As a result, because of being misunderstood, she had endured so much scolding and hardship over the years.

Thinking of this, the evil god girl’s nose tingled, and a surge of grievance welled up. Her eyes quickly moistened. Tears swirled in her eyes, blurring her vision. She bit her lower lip, struggling to control her emotions.

Seeing Xiamiya like this, Superion felt a pang of heartache. He quickly raised his hand to ruffle her hair. “Sorry, Xiamiya. This is all my fault. Having a prime minister replaced by a Great Sin Apostle, and losing a Spirit Puppet—that is undoubtedly a huge scandal. For the sake of Ophelia’s reputation, I did not disclose this matter.”

“But even if you couldn’t disclose that, you could have told everyone—told me—that I didn’t kill my sister!”

“I wanted to, but because of the curse and my coma… I had no chance to clarify this fact or correct the false rumors. I’m sorry, my child.”

Superion, the exalted Holy King of the theocratic nation, slowly bowed his head and apologized to his daughter. “These years of my coma have been hard on you.”

“Father…”

“As compensation, how about your father gives you something?”

“Gives?”

Hearing her father’s apology, most of Xiamiya’s negative emotions dissipated. But still, she pouted and pretended to be displeased. “Hmph! If it’s not something good, I won’t forgive you!”

Like a willful little girl, Xiamiya crossed her arms in front of her chest, putting on an arrogant pose.

Seeing this, Superion smiled fondly. “Alright, alright. Don’t worry. What I give you will surely satisfy you.”

“Huh? What is it?”

“Xiamiya, what do you say… if your father hands over the entire theocratic nation of Ophelia to you?”

Xiamiya: “Eh??!!”
