Chapter 72: The Silver Threads of Salvation

PS: Thanks for the monthly votes, here’s an extra chapter.

The Ice Princess.

Originally one of the three remaining magical puppets of the Theocracy of Ophelia, she was seized by the Abyssal Sin Tower during an incident three years ago.

Now, after three years, seeing this puppet again filled Superion’s heart with immense complexity.

However,

the current Holy King had no time to dwell on it. Realizing that Zholu had lent the Ice Princess to Helibea, Superion’s expression turned gravely serious.

He naturally understood the performance and abilities of the two remaining functional magical puppets of the Theocracy.

And precisely because of that,

Superion instantly sensed danger.

“Not good, I need to create distance!”

Feeling the bone-chilling cold radiating from the Ice Princess, capable of freezing holy power, Superion hastily withdrew his fist, trying to put distance between himself and the magical puppet.

However,

though Superion had briefly erupted with blazing holy power, it was only a temporary recovery to near the Heavenly Realm.

The Ice Princess, on the other hand, was a genuine Heavenly Realm powerhouse.

The moment she sensed Superion retreating, the Ice Princess, empowered by her extreme cold magic, closed the distance in an instant, appearing right before him.

Then,

a surge of powerful ice-attributed magic converged into the golden-haired girl’s strong palm.

The next moment,

under Superion’s unwilling gaze, the Ice Princess’s hand, laden with accumulated frost, struck his abdomen like lightning.

Superion was caught off guard, his abdomen struck directly by the Ice Princess’s chill.

The flaming armor blazing around his body shattered instantly under the attack. The flames were eroded by the cold, vanishing without a trace, and his scorching protective holy power crumbled entirely.

In an instant,

intense pain flooded Superion’s mind, forcing a mouthful of blood from his lips as he was sent flying by the immense impact.

“Cough, cough!!!”

His body arced through the air before crashing heavily into the ruins not far away, kicking up dust and rubble.

“Da… damn it, still… too slow…”

Lying in the ruins, Superion convulsed in pain, blood seeping from the corners of his mouth.

The last reserves of holy power within him were frozen solid by the cold that the Ice Princess had driven into his body during the contact.

Without a doubt,

Superion had lost his combat capability once again.

Not only had he reverted to his previous weakened state, but the erosion of the cold had made him even more aged and powerless.

Meanwhile,

the Sun Crown Palace, which had been enveloped in Superion’s blazing holy power, was now covered by the Ice Princess’s cold. Huge snowflakes fell from the sky, quickly blanketing the entire palace. The flames hissed sharply under the assault of snow and ice, as if in a final struggle, but soon they were completely sealed.

In just a moment, every corner of the Sun Crown Palace ruins was coated in a thick layer of ice, shimmering with crystalline light. The once-blazing flames now stood still, like insects trapped in amber, frozen in a world of ice. The air was filled with a biting chill, as if even breathing carried the taste of frost.

“Hmph…”

Helibea, sheltered within the ice barrier conjured by the Ice Princess, watched coldly, a smug smile on her face.

“So, it’s you who underestimated me, Father.”

Since Superion was severely wounded by Zholu three years ago, most of the administrative power of the Holy Royal Palace had actually fallen into Helibea’s hands.

Anything that happened in the Sun Crown Palace reached her ears.

How could Helibea not know that High Priest Baroye had helped Superion preserve some of his power?

Thus,

she hadn’t come alone to face Superion—she had brought this magical puppet.

Gazing at the slender, petite figure standing atop the ruins, Helibea was brimming with confidence.

Her plan was foolproof.

The Ice Princess, a magical puppet at the high end of the Heavenly Realm.

Even her father in his prime couldn’t contend with her, let alone in his current state of barely clinging to life.

“Time to end this, Father.”

Helibea spoke coldly, looking at the aged figure in the ruins.

Although she didn’t know how that bastard Xiamiya had triggered such a massive undead attack, as long as she controlled the Ice Princess, there was nothing to fear.

After finishing with her father, she would just freeze all those monsters in the Holy Royal Palace.

Tch, it was supposed to be Duke Leipzig’s task—why hasn’t that guy made a move yet?

A flicker of displeasure stirred within Helibea at that moment.

But she didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she glanced at the Ice Princess.

“Yes.”

Feeling Helibea’s gaze, the Ice Princess instantly understood her intent.

The next moment,

the golden-haired girl raised both hands high.

Terrifying ice-blue magic distorted the surrounding space.

In the silent night, a cold blue light suddenly appeared.

As the magic within the Ice Princess surged, a massive ice meteor slowly took shape in the sky.

The ice meteor emitted biting cold and glowed with blue light, as if freezing the entire sky. The surrounding air dropped sharply, a howling wind whipped up, and ice crystals scattered.

“Cough… is this… the end?”

Superion, after taking that palm strike, lay in the ruins, covered in blood, his strength exhausted.

Faced with the immense pressure rapidly gathering above, he could only mutter in despair.

The Ice Princess stared at him coldly, without a trace of pity.

Though Superion was once the child she had contracted with,

as a magical puppet, her duty was to obey her master’s orders.

Even if her current master’s order was to kill the one she once served,

the Ice Princess would not hesitate.

“Meteor Ice Fall.”

Uttering the words expressionlessly, the golden-haired girl changed her gesture, and the massive ice meteor began to fall rapidly, aimed directly at Superion. The meteor traced a blue arc through the air, carrying destructive force like the apocalypse.

Watching the ice meteor swiftly grow larger in his vision, Superion lay in the ruins, his heart ashen.

“I’m sorry, Xiamiya…”

Thinking of that naive, adorable cherry-haired girl, Superion’s eyes overflowed with deep guilt.

If only he had been capable, a qualified king and father, this situation wouldn’t have escalated to this point.

Alas,

no matter how much he regretted or unwilling he felt, now that his power was exhausted, Superion could do nothing.

All he could do was close his eyes, waiting quietly for death to come…

“Farewell, Father.”

Watching the scene before her, Helia took a breath and spoke without emotion.

However,

the scene Helia had anticipated did not unfold before her eyes.

Just as the meteor was about to strike Superion, the massive ice meteor suddenly halted mid-air under Helibea’s gaze.

Wha… what?! What the hell?!

The meteor?

It stopped!

Helibea’s expression no longer remained indifferent; instead, it twisted into shock and confusion.

And the next moment,

before she could figure out what was happening,

silver lights suddenly flashed across the sky.

“Crack~”

With crisp sounds, silver threads from unknown origins shot through like lightning, instantly slicing the enormous ice meteor into countless fragments.

In an instant,

the meteor that had radiated destruction just a second ago shattered into pieces before Helibea’s dumbfounded eyes. Fragments scattered in the air, turning into ice crystals that drifted down. A cold mist spread, and the entire scene seemed bathed in silver light.

“Th… this is? What’s happening?”

Superion felt the sudden change, opened his eyes slightly, and looked around in astonishment.

What met his gaze was a world of silver, with ice crystals dancing in the air, as if time had stopped.

His heart was filled with shock and confusion.

The Ice Princess’s attack?

Blocked by something?

Huh?

“Who… who’s there?”

Seeming to sense a presence, Superion struggled to crawl out of the ruins and cast a wary gaze ahead.

The next moment,

as the icy mist gradually dissipated, a beautiful figure slowly emerged in Superion’s view.

It was a golden-haired girl in a maid’s short skirt. Her posture was elegant, her silver-and-gold gradient hair flowing in the wind, and her silver eyes gleamed with cold light. Her delicate features seemed carved, as if not of this mundane world. Her silhouette was strikingly bright in the silver glow, like an angel descending from the heavens.

She walked step by step to Superion and quietly met his shocked eyes.

Tilting her head slightly, the golden-haired girl gazed at Superion’s face, slowly curling her lips into a sweet yet spine-chilling smile.

“Rest assured, His Majesty the Holy King, I won’t let you die.”

For now…

not…
