Chapter 46: A Morning Visit and an Evening Promise

The morning living room was very quiet, with only the soft ticking of the wall clock.

Luo Xiaoyun’s bedroom door remained tightly shut, not a sound coming from within.

Su Muxue came out of the kitchen holding a glass of warm water. She glanced at that door, a slight curve forming on her lips. The scene of Xiaoyun fleeing to her room last night was still fresh in her mind—the tips of her ears bright red, her flustered gaze.

She smiled quietly.

Just as she was thinking, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Su Muxue walked over and pulled open the door. Standing outside was a tall figure. The visitor wore a long black trench coat, her long hair casually draped, her brows and eyes carrying a hint of lazy heroism.

“Sister Ci?” Su Muxue was a bit surprised. “Why are you here?”

Mu Qingci raised an eyebrow, her gaze sweeping past her into the room: “What, not welcome?”

“Of course not.” Su Muxue stepped aside. “Come in.”

Mu Qingci changed shoes and entered, naturally sitting down on the sofa, crossing her long legs, her posture as casual as if she were at home. She looked around, her eyes landing on the closed bedroom door, a meaningful smile curling at the corner of her mouth.

“That one of yours still not up?”

Su Muxue sat down across from her, her tone light but carrying an unconscious softness: “She went to bed late last night, let her sleep a bit longer.”

“Oh——” Mu Qingci drew out the syllable, squinting slightly. “Went to bed late? Doing what?”

Su Muxue caught on, feeling a slight warmth at the base of her ears, but her face remained calm. She took a sip of water: “Sister Ci, why are you really here today?”

“Alright, alright, I won’t ask.” Mu Qingci laughed and withdrew her gaze, pulling out a document from her bag. “The bar anniversary party checklist, take a look.”

The two began discussing business. Sunlight gradually crept over the windowsill, falling onto the coffee table.

After a while longer, the tightly shut bedroom door finally opened.

Luo Xiaoyun walked out rubbing her eyes, her short silver-white hair tousled from sleep, her face still wearing the daze of just waking up. The collar of her pajamas was askew, revealing a hint of her collarbone.

Then she saw the person on the sofa and paused in her movements.

On the sofa, Su Muxue and another woman sat side by side.

“S-Senior Mu?” Luo Xiaoyun instinctively straightened up, fumbling to adjust her collar. “What are you doing here?”

Mu Qingci looked up, her gaze sweeping over Luo Xiaoyun’s figure. The corners of her eyes curved slightly, a hint of playfulness in them. She leaned back, her tone lazy but threaded with amusement: “I came to talk to Xiaoxue about some business.”

She paused, her expression turning meaningful. “Came to discuss some work matters with Xiaoxue. Didn’t expect you to be together with our Xiaoxue so soon.”

Luo Xiaoyun felt a little embarrassed under her gaze, scratching the back of her head, but the corners of her mouth couldn’t help lifting: “Just… going with the flow…”

“Alright, alright, I won’t stick around as a third wheel.” Mu Qingci waved her hand, smiling with curved brows and eyes, rising to leave. “You two lovebirds take your time being lovey-dovey.”

The tips of Su Muxue’s ears quietly turned red again. She lightly chided, “Sister Ci…”

Mu Qingci stood up, brushed off some non-existent dust, and looked at her with a half-smile: “Alright, Xiaoxue, I’m off. Remember to come by tonight.”

“Okay, goodbye Sister Ci.”

“Goodbye, Senior Mu.” Luo Xiaoyun also waved.

The sound of the door closing fell, and the living room was silent for a few seconds.

Luo Xiaoyun turned to look at Su Muxue, curiosity in her eyes: “Xuejie, where are you going tonight?”

Su Muxue sat back down on the sofa, picked up her water glass and took a sip, her tone casual: “Sister Ci and I co-own a bar. Today is its first anniversary, so I need to go over.”

“I see.” Luo Xiaoyun nodded as if suddenly understanding.

Su Muxue suddenly lifted her eyes, a hint of playfulness in her gaze, the corners of her lips slightly raised: “I heard there will be lots of beautiful rich ladies there tonight—do you want to come too?”

Luo Xiaoyun’s eyes instantly lit up, and she blurted out: “Really or not?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, she received a light tap on the head.

“‘Really or not’?” Su Muxue withdrew her hand, looking at her with mild exasperation. “You actually want to go find rich ladies, huh?”

Luo Xiaoyun covered the spot where she’d been tapped, pouting pitifully, looking straight at Su Muxue. Her voice carried genuine sincerity: “With you here, my eyes can’t hold anyone else. You’re the most beautiful, the gentlest, the one who makes my heart flutter. Other people can’t even leave a shadow in my heart.”

She leaned in a little, softening her voice, the trailing tone carrying a hint of coaxing: “My heart is completely filled with you, it’s been overflowing for a long time. Where would there be room for anyone else?”

Su Muxue was momentarily stunned by this string of straightforward and scorching confessions, her ears quickly flushing a deep crimson.

She hurriedly turned her face away, pretending to reach for her water glass on the coffee table, but the upward curve of her lips couldn’t be suppressed.

“Smooth talker.” Her voice was soft, carrying an undeniable hint of delight. “Then… are you coming tonight?”

Luo Xiaoyun thought for a moment, then frowned with some regret: “I have class this afternoon, so I won’t go… but I’ll pick you up in the evening, okay?”

“Okay.” Su Muxue looked up at her, the tenderness in her eyes almost overflowing.

In the afternoon, Luo Xiaoyun went to class.

The room fell quiet again. Su Muxue sat on the sofa, holding a glass of water that had already gone cold, her gaze fixed on the window, lost in thought.

After a long while, she set down the glass and stood up, walking into the bedroom.

The closet door swung open, revealing a full rack of clothes. Her fingertips lightly brushed over the hangers, her eyes roaming over the various outfits.

Finally, her hand stopped on a white fitted knit top.

Su Muxue took it down and paired it with a high-waisted black skirt. She changed into the outfit and stood before the full-length mirror, carefully studying her reflection.

The white knit top clung tightly to her body, perfectly accentuating her slender waist and delicate curves. The neckline was slightly open, revealing a hint of her exquisite collarbone, glowing softly in the daylight.

The high-waisted skirt made her legs look even longer and straighter. The overall look was gentle and languid, inadvertently carrying a subtle, inviting allure.

She looked at herself in the mirror, then sat down at the vanity and meticulously applied a delicate makeup.

Finally, she gave herself one last once-over, a satisfied smile curving at the corner of her lips.

This should be enough.

She was never out to attract anyone.

Her target had always been only one—

The one with short silver-white hair who promised to pick her up tonight.

Su Muxue gently pressed her lips together. The person in the mirror had eyes full of flowing emotion, tenderness hiding a hint of determined smile.

Today, she was determined to win over that little one.
