Chapter 150: The Witch’s Demands

After arriving at Old Sheep’s shop, the stronghold of the “Tea Party,” she was asked to wait here.

Until now, she knew nothing about this organization. The only member she was somewhat familiar with was the witch.

However, considering they were willing to risk their lives to rescue her from the execution grounds, their attitude towards her could, at the very least, be considered friendly.

Given the circumstances, the witch would likely come to this room to meet her.

She was quite eager for this meeting. She desperately wanted to know the other party’s true identity and why they had repeatedly helped her.

Still, she genuinely worried the witch might suddenly flee. After all, the witch had a history of doing something “excessive” to her, leaving her behind in an inn, and then making a hasty exit.

Before long, the door suddenly opened. Jeanne Decker turned her head, filled with anticipation.

Then, she saw a man wearing a tall top hat enter the room.

“Thank goodness, you’ve finally returned safely. I was absolutely exhausted!” Mad Hatter, without the slightest hesitation, settled into the master’s seat by the tea table. He then greeted Jeanne Decker with an easy familiarity. “Hello, young lady from the North, the Church’s Saintess—ah, perhaps I should say ‘former Saintess’ now… Hmm, I seem to detect a hint of disappointment in your eyes. Is that just my imagination?”

“My apologies!” Jeanne Decker quickly shook her head. “Hello, I am Jeanne Decker. Everyone calls me Jeanne Decker of the North. I suppose you are…”

She scrutinized the man carefully, then noticed a clue on his tall top hat.

“You are the powerful individual who held back the Senior Inquisitor at the execution grounds, aren’t you?” she asked tentatively.

“Precisely. You may call me Mad Hatter; it’s my codename within this organization. I am the general manager of this underground organization, and I orchestrated your rescue operation.”

Mad Hatter smiled at Jeanne Decker.

“Thank you for your assistance. Your great kindness is something I will never forget.”

Jeanne Decker bowed her head earnestly. “If there’s anything you need me to repay, I will do my utmost! But before that, may I ask a question?”

She lifted her face, meeting Mad Hatter’s eyes. “Why did you save me?”

She knew very well that, in terms of strength, she was merely a Seventh-Tier Holy Knight. As for the titles of adopted daughter of Duke Alençon and Saintess of the Church, those halos had all been stripped away the moment she became a prisoner.

For any faction, expending so many resources to snatch her from the Inquisition was simply not cost-effective.

“I believe you should ask the person who saved you from the gallows directly.” Mad Hatter smiled. “To be honest, this organization doesn’t have many reasons to save you. We took action entirely because of that person.”

“That witch?”

“You could say she’s my student. The previous Killer case was related to our organization, and I entrusted her to help resolve it, so I owed her a favor.” Mad Hatter explained simply. “She quickly used that favor—when the news of your impending conviction spread throughout the city, she found me and asked me to organize this rescue. So, saving you was entirely at her personal behest!”

“Why would she do that? Do you know something?” Jeanne Decker asked eagerly.

“I know, but it’s not for me to say. It’s better if you ask her directly.” Mad Hatter smiled. “There’s only one thing left for me to discuss, and that’s an additional requirement I have regarding your rescue.”

“An additional requirement?”

“I hope you can join our organization.”

“Join you!?” Jeanne Decker’s eyes widened in astonishment.

“Yes. Logically, you have no right to refuse, because you owe us… or, to be precise, you owe your witch friend a life, and she promised to persuade you to join. As for what kind of organization we are, you can learn about it from her. Of course, this is just an additional condition we’ve proposed. As for what you owe her, that’s between the two of you.” Mad Hatter chuckled, making a casual joke. “Heh heh, it all depends on what demands she’ll make of you herself.”

‘The witch’s demands?’ Jeanne Decker mused, her mind drifting to imagine it.

Somehow, she once again recalled the events of that day, and the imagined scene suddenly took a distorted turn.

‘Oh, my dearest Saintess, what demands could a witch possibly have? It’ll be just like last time, won’t it? How about we do things my way? Oh, I shouldn’t need to remind you, should I…?’ The witch in Jeanne Decker’s imagination spoke to her in a seductive tone, enunciating each word. ‘You. Have. No. Right. To. Refuse. Oh!’

Mad Hatter watched the subtle changes in the girl’s expression with interest. On a whim, he used his ‘Devil’s’ ability to scrutinize souls and observed her.

Unlike an ‘Inquisitor’ who focused on the current emotional state of the mind, a ‘Devil’s’ scrutiny of the soul leaned towards desires.

In Mad Hatter’s eyes, Jeanne Decker’s originally pure and desireless soul, after a moment of thought, suddenly became thick with the scent of desire for some unknown reason.

This not only piqued his playful nature, but he spontaneously added fuel to the fire. “Oh, by the way, my student only likes girls. Who knows what demands she’ll make of you!”

He spoke with unusual candor, for he was not lying.

‘I, Mad Hatter, can swear that every word I said is true, and absolutely no slander!’

Jeanne Decker’s expression shifted slightly. Mad Hatter’s words undoubtedly confirmed her previous misunderstanding and her recent vivid imagination.

‘That witch… she wouldn’t actually dare to—’

Then, just at that moment, the door behind Jeanne Decker opened.

Alice Liddell, her face veiled, appeared at the doorway, exhaling a sigh of relief as she saw the two in the room.

“Thank goodness, you’re both safe!” she said, stepping into the room. “My apologies, taking the detour took a while. I’ve kept you waiting.”

“No, no, no, you’ve arrived at precisely the right moment, my student!” Mad Hatter suddenly rose with unusual excitement, striding over to pat Alice Liddell’s shoulder.

“Mad Hatter, why do you seem… more excited than usual?” Alice Liddell looked at her mentor with a touch of surprise.

“Perhaps it’s a lingering effect of the Abyss’s madness.” Mad Hatter chuckled calmly. “Perfect, you two can have a good chat, you and your Saintess friend. A reunion, an escape from death—I imagine you must have much to say. I won’t disturb you any further. Farewell!”

With that, he swiftly slipped out of the room without another word.

Before Alice Liddell could react, he closed the door behind him.

A soft “click” echoed, and the sound of the door locking followed.

“What’s gotten into that guy?” Alice Liddell felt a strange sense of bewilderment.

She then shifted her gaze to Jeanne Decker in the room.

Just then, she suddenly felt a chill.
