Join the ServerThe book is set to officially launch tomorrow. A substantial collection of pre-written chapters is scheduled for release this Saturday at 9 AM. While some of these chapters are still undergoing revisions, any that aren’t quite ready in time will be promptly updated later the same day.
I spent several months designing the outline and power system for this book while I was still working on my previous one. I originally considered it a work of confidence, never anticipating that its release would coincide with a wave of suppression against certain genres.
Furthermore, I’ve observed that this book’s style likely diverges from the mainstream of similar works on this platform, preventing it from accumulating significant popularity. Consequently, after receiving two prominent recommendations, the promotion abruptly ceased.
This struggle inevitably reminds me of my previous book, *The Warden of Witches*. I initially published it on Pineapple Bun, only to find it garnered almost no response. It was only after I submitted it to Qidian and received an internal contract offer that I decided to sign with them.
Undeniably, Qidian is a tough place for new authors, often dubbed a ‘graveyard for newcomers.’ After writing over a hundred thousand characters without receiving a single trial recommendation, I finally couldn’t help but proactively contact my editor.
The editor’s reply was stark: ‘Your retention rate is only a little over thirty; the data is quite dismal.’ I was left speechless for a moment.
After the first trial recommendation, the editor responded again, saying the retention rate had risen to over fifty. They remarked that the content seemed decent and could warrant further promotion.
By the time of its official release, the less-than-stellar early data meant it received fewer recommendations than hoped, yet it had still managed to accumulate a respectable number of收藏. On the day of the initial subscription, I quietly checked the numbers, finding it had barely scraped past the passing mark.
Subsequently, the editor expressed that the book had a chance to become a ‘premium’ title. Over the next six months, it received all the recommended promotions, and a week after its completion, the book was finally, if barely, elevated into the premium channel. It felt as if every step had been taken right at the edge of the passing line.
*The Warden of Witches* was an entirely new endeavor for me, and by my own assessment, it had its fair share of flaws. Towards the later stages, the power system also became somewhat unwieldy. Overall, its performance was quite acceptable.
To my surprise, over a month after its completion, the chief editor of Qidian’s Ninth Group informed me that the book could actually be adapted into a comic. Perhaps, despite my immature prose making the book fall slightly short, its core concept still held some merit.
Now, as I embark on *Black Fairytale*, I’ve chosen to publish it only on Pineapple Bun, considering the potential risks of the gender-bending genre on other platforms. Additionally, I’ve been actively participating in SF’s grand writing contests since their third iteration, and despite winning only one novella award, I still harbor a passion for involvement.
However, I never imagined this book would be born at such an inopportune time. Given the current trends, the chances of it truly flourishing seem quite slim.
This feeling is truly awful. You believe your skill is no less than others, you put in the same effort, yet the opportunities and rewards you receive are only a fraction of theirs.
But as things stand, I’ve surprisingly come to terms with it. Having written this much, I no longer doubt my own abilities. If one book doesn’t succeed, I still have the next.
Perhaps this book won’t have many opportunities, and perhaps the subscriptions will be rather dismal. Yet, even if I don’t receive much recognition, one must at least respect oneself.
While this book falls under the gender-bending genre, it isn’t solely focused on that; the primary emphasis will remain on the power-leveling progression system.
The power system in this book is modeled after *Lord of Mysteries*—yes, I believe the title evolution system in *Lord of Mysteries* is so incredibly stylish that it could be popularized much like the common cultivation systems in xianxia novels or soul-like games. In addition, I’ve incorporated some class concepts from *Fate*, though the abilities and titles are largely my own creations. Readers of *The Warden* might even recognize echoes of *The Warden*’s authority system in some of the abilities.
Furthermore, readers should find many classic fairytale and legend tropes in the character designs. Astute readers might have already realized that this concept draws inspiration from the RPG game series *Black Souls* (which, despite being an adult game, is an excellent title worthy of praise, and can be purchased legitimately on DLsite).

As for donations, I personally do not recommend them at all. On one hand, I only receive less than half of the money (after the platform’s cut and taxes). On the other hand, donations don’t significantly impact my overall income. Comparatively, I would much rather that readers who support me use that money for themselves, to treat themselves or buy something for someone they cherish.
As I’m currently raising my daughter, my time is difficult to manage. Updates will likely be based on the minimum attendance requirements. I dare not easily promise extra chapters, but I will do my best to update more frequently to reciprocate everyone’s monthly votes. Depending on my income, I might consider a dual-writing plan (as I need to support my family), which I will announce separately if it comes to pass.
