Chapter 158: A Shocking Reunion

Duchess Liddell frowned slightly, continuing her monologue.

“If that person hadn’t made the sacrifice to turn you into a witch, you would be nothing but bones in a prison cell by now. Did that girl accomplish anything? No.”

“There are some things you need to understand clearly: her purpose in contacting you was not to persuade.”

“Although her Majesty ‘allegedly’ has strange fetishes, as a loyal subject, she absolutely cannot accept her master being stolen away.”

“She planned to prepare Alice psychologically, ensuring Queen Isola’s dominance in this romantic entanglement. How could the person in Her Majesty’s heart be so easily snatched away by a stray cat?”

Alice quickly gestured for Duchess Liddell to be silent, but it was already too late.

Jeanne Decker was completely petrified by the shocking revelation.

Maplewood City, wrongful imprisonment, becoming a witch… Crucially, the Duchess had twice mentioned that Jeanne Decker “hadn’t done anything,” striking a chord deep within her heart.

The information conveyed by the words from the magic mirror surged into her mind, rapidly piecing together a truth she had never dared to imagine.

The scene from that day remained vivid in her memory: her friend, scarred and broken in a cage, and her own powerlessness to help.

That feeling of helplessness was an enduring nightmare. So, when Duchess Liddell spoke, Jeanne Decker immediately recalled the boy she had believed only lived in her memories.

Now, that boy and the witch before her suddenly merged into one.

That day, on the pyre, as she watched Alice Liddell walk towards her, she had, for a fleeting moment, remembered that specific day.

After her release from prison, she had coincidentally encountered that very day, though from a different perspective. This time, however, it was she who was trapped in despair.

She had saved the other person back then, but this time, the other person had saved her.

“You, you are…” she stammered, pointing at Alice. “You are…”

“What’s going on?” Hearing Jeanne Decker’s voice, Duchess Liddell sensed something was amiss.

She then looked at Alice, who had been trying to stop her from speaking, and immediately understood.

“Could it be… you two haven’t recognized each other yet?” Duchess Liddell asked suspiciously.

Alice sighed helplessly.

She had agonized for so long over whether to tell Jeanne Decker, only for the unwitting Duchess Liddell to expose everything, catching them both off guard.

“Oh dear, I truly apologize,” Duchess Liddell said, covering her mouth with an expression of regret. But the next second, her face changed, and she frowned at Alice, demanding, “Do you think I’d say that? So, you two have progressed to this stage simply with new identities? A saintess and a witch—how could this even happen? Tell me honestly, what did you do?!”

She truly hadn’t expected them to not even have recognized each other yet. Given Alice’s current identity as a witch, she couldn’t imagine any way to get the former Saintess of the Church into bed, other than by leveraging her life-saving grace as blackmail.

And Alice dared to claim it was an accident? What kind of preposterous accident could lead to this?

“It really was an accident, I’m not lying!” Alice was utterly helpless. She desperately wanted to explain everything to Duchess Liddell, but at the moment, she had to focus her primary attention on Jeanne Decker.

“Are you really Levi?” Jeanne Decker stared at her, asking in a daze.

After a moment of silence, Alice could only nod. “It’s me.”

“But, but…” Jeanne Decker, engulfed in confusion, blinked her eyes repeatedly.

The truth was laid bare, yet her understanding struggled to catch up.

“If a male profession transforms into a witch, they are converted into a female.”

“Since things have come to this, Alice could only explain, helping her understand. ‘I experienced some things in the dungeon and survived by becoming a witch.'”

Upon hearing this, Jeanne Decker finally understood a little, and then everything began to click into place. All her previous questions were answered.

Why did Alice Liddell casually mention her favorite flavors? Why did Jeanne Decker always feel a reassuring sense of familiarity when she was with Alice? And most importantly, why was Alice Liddell willing to sacrifice so much for her?

“You’re alive? Really? I’m not dreaming, am I?”

Jeanne Decker’s eyes widened, carefully fixed on Alice, not daring to blink, as if Alice were a bubble that would vanish from her sight if she lost focus for even a second.

The fact that Levi was alive was like a dream to Jeanne Decker. She was terrified it truly was a dream, because dreams always end. She had dreamt of Levi being alive many times, and each time she woke, the disparity with reality was unbearable.

Seeing her reaction, Alice couldn’t help but smile. “Ah, it’s true, I’m alive. You’re not dreaming.”

Without warning, tears streamed down Jeanne Decker’s face.

“Jeanne Decker!?” This reaction genuinely startled Alice.

“I’m sorry! I just, I just…” Jeanne Decker laughed and wiped away her tears, but the more she wiped, the more they fell. Eventually, even her voice took on a slight sob. “I’m just so happy! You’re alive! You’re alive!”

“Hey, don’t do that. You’re making me feel like crying too.”

Alice suddenly felt a pang of emotion in her nose.

Despite numerous twists and turns, they had finally transcended the barriers of identity and position to recognize each other.

The atmosphere at this moment was incredibly infectious for the two of them, immersing them in the joy of reunion to the point where they temporarily forgot an important matter.

Fortunately, at that moment, a “kind soul” was there to remind them in time.

“I say, have you two forgotten something?” Duchess Liddell suddenly interjected. “Not long ago, you two were in bed together because of a so-called ‘accident,’ weren’t you?”

The two, who had been gazing at each other, froze simultaneously. Duchess Liddell’s words forced them to remember everything that had just transpired, whether they wanted to or not.

This was exactly what Alice had been worried about. Their relationship had already soured because of this incident; the joy of their reunion was matched by the awkwardness it brought.

Of course, Jeanne Decker was the most impacted.

She had only just reconciled the Alice before her with the Levi from her memories. Recalling what had just happened, she instinctively replaced the Alice in her memory on the bed with Levi.

This meant that she had just forcefully pressed her long-lost, cherished friend onto the bed, ignoring their resistance and pleas, and committed an indecent act…

The shame she felt this time far surpassed the embarrassment she had experienced moments ago when their misunderstanding was resolved.

“Miss Liddell… no, Levi.” Jeanne Decker offered her friend a somewhat desolate smile.

“What, what’s wrong?” Alice asked, treading carefully.

“Please, just do me a favor and kill me,” the female knight pleaded, her eyes devoid of light.

“I told you to calm down!”
