Join the ServerSilence descended abruptly.
Jeanne Decker’s heart pounded uncontrollably.
When the silence fell, she was too nervous to offer a proper response.
Under Isola’s direct inquiry, she unconsciously revealed the answer hidden deep within her heart.
This was the first time she had admitted her affectionate feelings for Levi were, in fact, romantic.
For some inexplicable reason, looking at Isola, she vaguely felt that this person would understand her, thus prompting her subconscious confession.
She was incredibly nervous, having confirmed her romantic feelings for Levi.
It was this realization that made her so anxious for Isola’s answer, especially since it was clear something had transpired between Isola and Levi.
To be honest, she was somewhat afraid Isola would give an affirmative answer.
She couldn’t deny that the Red Queen’s charm far surpassed her own, making such a rival in matters of the heart rather disheartening.
Isola remained motionless in the image, unmoving for several long seconds.
Jeanne Decker couldn’t help but fall into doubt.
‘Is it stuck?’
She turned the magic mirror over and over, then tapped the glass with her hand.
“I…” Isola finally began to speak.
Jeanne Decker immediately fixed her gaze upon the mirror.
Under her eager scrutiny, Isola slowly uttered the latter half of her sentence: “It’s probably just as you imagine.”
This enigmatic reply left Jeanne Decker momentarily stunned. “What exactly do you imagine it to be?”
“Must I spell it out word for word for you to feel even more shy?” Isola frowned with a hint of pity, shifting her gaze.
This sight made Jeanne Decker hold her breath.
‘This is simply too adorable! Is this truly the same Queen who, just moments ago, commanded the Duchess and the Mad Hatter to retreat with such imposing majesty?’
Even though their rivalry for affection was now confirmed, Jeanne Decker couldn’t help but feel a sense of ‘pity and fondness’ for Isola.
“Your Majesty… you’re actually such a shy person,” Jeanne Decker voiced her straightforward thought.
Called out so directly, Isola had no rebuttal and could only respond with silence.
After laying everything bare, Jeanne Decker found herself at a loss for words, and an awkward silence stretched on for a while.
Eventually, she couldn’t contain herself any longer and directly questioned Isola’s intentions: “Did Your Majesty seek me out solely to confirm this matter? Or… do you wish for me to relinquish my pursuit?”
Jeanne Decker was not one for beating around the bush when it came to such things, so she opted to ask everything outright.
“I have no right to demand you give up anything,” Isola said, lowering her eyes. “Even I have only just confirmed my own feelings.”
“I do consider her a special person, but I wasn’t certain if that special feeling was indeed romantic affection. I once saw your future through a premonition and grew anxious because of it, but I deliberately avoided the matter, for I had a more important mission. I didn’t want my thoughts to be disturbed by such things.”
“Until…”
“Until what happened today,” Isola suddenly met Jeanne Decker’s eyes. “I saw everything you did in my divination.”
“I-I’m sorry.” Guilt made Jeanne Decker avert her gaze, apologizing reflexively.
“If you must apologize, you should do so to her, not to me,” Isola replied. “Only after the prophecy came to pass did I realize that no matter how much I tried to avoid it, it was useless. That feeling of restless agitation, like a hundred claws tearing at my heart, could not be suppressed. I believe this must be the first time I’ve tasted such intense jealousy.”
Jeanne Decker’s heart slowly sank.
It seemed the Red Queen’s feelings for Alice Liddell were identical to her own.
“Then what exactly does Your Majesty intend to do?” Jeanne Decker posed her earlier question once more.
“How about this…” Isola pondered for a moment. “You go and ask her what she thinks. That way, I can also know her answer through divination.”
“What? I go ask?!” Jeanne Decker was taken aback. “Why me?”
“Just go ask if I tell you to,” Isola stated.
“This…” Jeanne Decker felt her face flush again.
After what she had done, merely facing Alice Liddell to express her feelings was already incredibly difficult.
How could she possibly have the audacity to confidently ask such a question as ‘choose me or choose her’?
Moreover, she was terrified of receiving an answer she didn’t want.
Once rejected, how would she ever face Alice Liddell again?
Jeanne Decker, typically brave and fearless, found herself uncharacteristically contemplating retreat.
“Why doesn’t Your Majesty go ask?” Jeanne Decker retorted. “Don’t you like her too?”
“Didn’t you just thank me for saving her? So, you go ask,” Isola said, unyielding.
“That’s cheating!” Jeanne Decker grew a little anxious.
She thought for a moment, then threw out another question: “Then, if she chooses me, will you willingly give up? Please answer me seriously!”
“I…” Isola hesitated for a moment.
Without an immediate affirmative answer, Jeanne Decker instantly understood.
“If that’s the case for Your Majesty, then there’s no point in me asking,” Jeanne Decker said with a touch of helplessness.
It seemed this formidable rival’s difficulty wasn’t just her charm.
The depth of her feelings meant she wouldn’t give up easily.
Just then, from a crack in the door behind Isola, the Duchess Liddell’s voice of encouragement drifted out: “Your Majesty, you absolutely cannot yield! This concerns the dignity of the Night Kingdom! It doesn’t matter if Alice agrees or not. With your capabilities, if you can’t win over such a young girl, how can you call yourself the Queen of Witches in the future?”
“Patra!” Isola twisted her head around, blushing with annoyance. “How dare you eavesdrop!?”
The door crack immediately closed, and the Duchess Liddell swiftly made her escape.
Jeanne Decker watched this scene, speechless, unsure of what to say.
“Very well, let’s just pretend I said nothing.” Isola adjusted her expression, turning back to Jeanne Decker. “I cannot restrict your actions. Though I am not by her side, my divinations can foresee what she experiences. From now on, I will also take action when appropriate.”
“We are, after all, on the same starting line. This seems fair.”
Jeanne Decker paused, then couldn’t help but smile.
‘A remarkably straightforward approach.’
“However, there’s one thing I must warn you about first,” Isola suddenly said.
“Is it… that I’m not allowed to do such things again?” Jeanne Decker recalled the previous events, her voice instantly growing softer. “You can rest assured about that. Even if you asked me to, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.”
“No, I hope you never appear before me again,” Isola said.
Jeanne Decker’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Given the disparity in our power, a single word from me could kill you. I’m truly unsure what I might do out of jealousy, but no matter what, I don’t wish to do anything that would make her hate me,” Isola stated earnestly.
Jeanne Decker understood.
In a way, this could be considered the greatest act of goodwill Isola could show her.
“I understand,” Jeanne Decker nodded.
The two exchanged glances, suddenly sensing an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
When it came to matters of the heart, they were indeed quite similar.
“Hmm?” Just then, Jeanne Decker suddenly realized something and asked, “Your Majesty, allow me to ask, what did you mean earlier by ‘on the same starting line’? Could it be that you and she…”
Isola’s expression stiffened for a moment.
She immediately waved her hand across the mirror’s surface—
“Let’s part ways here. Farewell!”
As soon as her words fell, the image in the magic mirror vanished.
