Chapter 2: The Day Dragon Brother Turned into a Woman

The day Dragon Bro turned into a woman, I got out of bed close to noon.

I lazed around on my phone for a bit. Not very long. Around twelve noon, I finally crawled out of bed, planning to make a bowl of instant noodles.

The weather was perfect. Clear sky, high clouds. Sunlight poured in through the window, golden and bright, spilling across the wooden floor. My mood lifted with the weather. I slowly took the noodles out of the cabinet, tore open the seasoning packets, then stood by the table, still playing on my phone.

The water heater rumbled for a while. The button popped with a click. I yawned, picked up the kettle, and poured water into the noodle bowl.

Just then, the doorbell rang. I froze for a second, then got up and walked toward the door.

Not many people look for me on a Sunday.

Yeah. It was probably that bastard Old Han. A few days ago he’d been pestering me to go watch the girls’ basketball games at school. Said watching pale thighs in real life was way better than the internet. If I went, he’d even buy me a Coke.

I hadn’t really wanted to go, but thinking it over, it didn’t sound bad.

Cloudless blue skies. Look up once and it’s blinding. Sitting under a sun umbrella with my phone, watching a bunch of girls with ponytails bouncing around, chasing each other.

Young girls in their prime, sweat beading on those pale thighs… me under the umbrella with a Coke in hand. Honestly, not bad at all.

I’d told him I’d give him an answer on Sunday. So now he was probably here.

The person outside started mashing the doorbell like crazy. I cursed and opened the door. What the hell are you doing? You trying to break my doorbell?

Standing there was a rather pretty girl.

She had long, bleached hair that stood out immediately. Her features were fairly delicate, but there was a vicious-looking knife scar slanted vertically across her right eye.

Her outfit was a complete mess. She stood there sloppily. A green short-sleeved shirt under a bright red tracksuit jacket. On the bottom, a pair of men’s loose shorts. Pale thighs stuck out from under them. On her feet were filthy, torn white sneakers. Honestly, I felt kind of proud of myself for even being able to tell they used to be white.

She looked confused and asked right after the door opened, “What, were you jerking off in there?”

Putting aside whether I actually was or wasn’t, who the hell was she?

I looked her up and down. She looked totally calm, dressed like Zhao Si himself. I definitely didn’t know her. Unless I had amnesia, if there were a girl around me dressed like Zhao Si, I’d remember her forever. Even if she turned to ashes, I’d still recognize her.

But I couldn’t stop staring at the scar on her eye.

I knew that scar. The angle, the depth, the color. It matched one of my friends perfectly.

When she saw me standing there not saying a word, she scratched her bleached hair and gave me a strange look. I stared at her like an idiot. She pushed me aside, stepped in, kicked off her shoes, and walked into the apartment.

I followed her shakily, not even closing the security door.

As soon as she got inside, she collapsed onto the sofa and stared out the window. Suddenly she jumped up like she’d lost her mind, picked up her foot and sniffed it. After confirming it didn’t smell, she put it down gloomily and scratched her neck like she had ADHD. Her stomach started growling, then she turned and looked at me.

“Got any more instant noodles? Where’s Old Han?”

When she turned her head, my eyes locked onto that scar again.

Then it hit me.

Out of everyone I knew, only one person had a scar like that.

Nicknamed the Little White Dragon of the Pearl River. Bai Hailong. Social Dragon Bro.

This girl sitting on my sofa right now, with that impatient little stare and sloppy attitude, was almost identical to Dragon Bro in my memory. If you told me she was his twin sister, I’d believe it without hesitation.

But their family passes down scars like this? That hardcore?

I grabbed another cup of noodles from the cabinet, poured in hot water, found two pairs of chopsticks, and sat beside her.

I hesitated for a while, trying not to look at this girl who was sprawled like a lonely old man, staring out the window in a Ge You slouch. I was already convinced she must know Dragon Bro. Otherwise there was no way she could find my place so easily. I figured I’d ask her what her relationship with Dragon Bro was later, just in case she was some kind of sister and I ended up looking rude.

The moment I turned my head, I saw her basically lying half-flat on the sofa. Her loose green shirt had slid halfway down, exposing half of a round breast.

My question got completely stuck in my throat.

I… I actually saw her boob.

My fragile little heart took an unexpected critical hit.

Anyway, sitting was sitting. I went to the kitchen and cooked her a bowl of noodles. I sat back down beside her and calmly told her that there wasn’t much food. Just instant noodles. Eat if you want. If it’s not enough, there’s more.

She sat up reluctantly, face full of annoyance, ignored me, and started slurping noodles.

I watched her for a bit, then pretended to go to the bathroom. Inside, I took out my phone and called Dragon Bro.

After a moment, I heard: “You smell like her perfume~~”

At that exact moment, a phone rang in the living room. Aside from the ringtone, all I could hear was her slurping noodles. I froze. Dragon Bro’s phone was with her?

The ringtone kept going. After a while, she finally answered. “What’s up? I’m out of toilet paper.”

“Wrong number!” I pinched my voice like a eunuch and hung up.

Dragon Bro’s phone was in her hands. No doubt they were connected. I mean, even their scars were on matching sides… wait, are scars a couple’s thing now?

I started thinking that feeding her instant noodles was kind of shabby. Maybe later I’d go get some mala tang. Once Dragon Bro showed up, I’d just make him reimburse me.

I came out of the bathroom. Dragon Sister looked at me suspiciously and asked with concern, “Your name’s literally in the contact notes. What are you two playing at? What were you doing in the bathroom? You really out of paper? You didn’t wipe and just came out, did you?”

“I wiped… I wiped…” I said awkwardly.

She snorted, tilted her head back, and drank all the noodle soup from the plastic bowl. Then she stood up and said she needed the bathroom. I scooted over to make room and watched her walk in, thinking I’d ask her what she was to Dragon Bro later.

A moment later, a scream came from the bathroom. Then another. And another.

Not a sexy scream. The soul-ripping kind.

I panicked. Did she really not have toilet paper? She yelled, “Hey I— Lao Lu! Lao Lu!! Come here!! Come here!!”

I rushed to the bathroom door in a panic. Was there a cockroach? Something else? I was about to push the door open, then hesitated. At least she was a girl. Bursting in didn’t feel right.

“I’m coming in, okay?”

“Lao Lu! Holy shit, Lao Lu!!”

I shoved the door open.

Right in front of me, Dragon Sister sat on the toilet in total panic. No cockroach. No rats. The faucet was fine. Her face was pale. Her chest half exposed. Her men’s shorts were down around her ankles. Her pale, long legs were trembling, spread apart—

And I slammed the door shut.

I collapsed outside the bathroom, gasping. “Little sis… little sis, Lu-ge’s heart isn’t great. You can’t do this to me.”

From inside the bathroom, Dragon Sister screamed in panic, “Where’s my d*ck? It’s gone…! My d*ck is gone!!”

The weather was beautiful. Sunlight poured in violently through the window, making the floor so bright it was almost blinding.

Standing outside the bathroom, listening to her screams, I spent about five minutes painfully sorting through what had happened.

Oh. Dragon Sister wasn’t Dragon Sister.

She used to be Dragon Bro. And she used to have a little Dragon Bro down there.

And now, through science, she’d turned into Dragon Sister.

Holy shit. This felt like the plot of some sci-fi novel.

I’d read a short story once. Forgot the title. It was about me getting a s*x change and then using a time machine to screw myself.

Dragon Bro took half an hour to calm down. Now she was sitting on my sofa like someone whose mother had just died, sunlight still shining outside. We sat there in silence.

I used to believe in science too. Overnight, a violent but loyal guy turned into a soft, weak girl. Turns out my worldview wasn’t that solid either. It collapsed pretty easily.

Back when we used to drink together, we even joked that if one of us ever turned into a woman, we’d let the brothers have their fun first. Four idiots laughing obscenely at the table.

And now fate had other plans.

The same Dragon Bro who once drunkenly yelled, “If any of you turn into a woman, I’m f*cking first, don’t fight me for it,” was now sitting on my sofa, all curves in the right places, head buried between her thighs, curled up like a ball.

I tried to comfort her. “Dragon Bro, pull yourself together! What’s a d*ck, anyway! You’re Dragon Bro! You’ve walked through blades and blood. You’re not scared of losing an arm. What’s one little worm? If it’s gone, it’s gone!”

Her head stayed buried between her thighs. Her gaze was blank, fixed on the flat space between her legs. She didn’t say a word.

I tried again. “And those little punks who’ve been messing with you. With you like this, would they even recognize you? How would they find trouble with you now?”

Dragon Bro sighed. “Them? They mess with me? What do I do now? My old man didn’t strangle me back then only because I had a d*ck. Otherwise he’d have killed me already. What the hell is this?”

I really wanted to say, how big is your heart exactly? You grew two things on your chest and didn’t notice the whole way? What did you think they were, tumors?

But she was clearly miserable, so I stopped joking and sat there silently beside her.

Back when Dragon Bro still had those few ounces of meat downstairs, she was the boss of our high school’s outside crowd. White hair, vicious fighter. Looked glorious, but enemies came with that territory.

This year some transfer students came in from out of town. A few had rich, powerful families. These first-year brats didn’t study, spent all day obsessed with gangster novels, full of hot-blooded fantasies, planning to buy their way into the underworld. It sounded stupid, but money talks. With some networking, they got to know quite a few so-called “big brothers.”

No idea whether those brats had real judgment, or if they knew those big brothers were all bark and no bite, or something else entirely. Anyway, they set their sights on Dragon Bro. Wanted to invite her out for meals, build some “brotherly bonds.”

They called politely once. Dragon Bro was gaming at an internet café and snapped, “Who the f*ck is this?” After the kid explained carefully, Dragon Bro bluntly said she was busy and told them to f*ck off.

That was just how she was. Stubborn, didn’t take bribes. The friends she acknowledged were life-and-death brothers. Everyone else was a stranger and didn’t deserve face.

But those brats didn’t share her simple values.

They held a grudge. And since Dragon Bro had tons of enemies already, the brats used their money to treat various big brothers to free drinks. Over time, they got to know Dragon Bro’s enemies, and even some of Dragon Bro’s own brothers. Everyone drank together, life was good.

Slowly, Dragon Bro was left isolated.

Anyone who’s been around these outside-school circles knows how it works. You know everyone, everyone knows everyone. But when real conflict happens and people start grouping up for revenge, the guy you want to stab a dozen times and spit on is very likely a friend of a friend of a friend.

Big cities might be different. In small cities, the circle is tiny. Once something happens, everyone knows. People hold back when fists start flying.

Dragon Bro, though, was hot-headed and bad at socializing. Over time, her reputation remained, but fewer and fewer people were actually willing to help her.

She became the wall everyone wanted to push over. She was the Little White Dragon of the Pearl River. Taking her down meant instant fame.

At first, those first-year brats only held a grudge and didn’t plan on touching her. Later, probably egged on by her enemies, they started with verbal provocation. After Dragon Bro knocked out a few teeth with her fists, they escalated.

Now they showed up in groups, politely carrying clubs and knives, waiting silently at the internet cafés she frequented.

At first, Dragon Bro could still kick a few down with her skills. Lately, their numbers kept growing. Escaping got harder each time. The bruises on her body piled up.

A few times she coughed up blood while smoking. It scared the hell out of me. She just wiped it on her clothes and went back to gaming. To her, it probably wasn’t even a big deal.

The once high-spirited Little White Dragon had fallen with the turn of fate.

Dragon Bro said bitterly, “Do I have to bleed every month now? I gotta buy those big Band-Aids? Are they expensive?”

Talking about a period like it’s a horror story… I did the math for her. “I think X-degree Space is seven fifty. That’s like a pack of Red Golden Dragon cigarettes. You can even get a drink.”

She asked, “Can I just not buy them?”

I looked at her in pain. If you don’t buy them, are you washing your own underwear later? Dragon Bro’s place didn’t even have a washing machine. Plus, there were always people hanging around the internet café entrance waiting to beat her up.

No way I was letting her go back.

I said, “You short on pad money? I’ll front it. We’ll figure it out later. Don’t go to the internet café. You don’t really have any luggage anyway. Stay at my place tonight. As long as you don’t mind it being small.”

Dragon Bro sighed, looked at me, and loosened her arms wrapped around her knees.
