Chapter 71: An Amusement Park Invitation

I pushed Dragon Brother out of the sprawling hospital.

The sky remained overcast, yet thankfully, dusk was already approaching, naturally deepening the twilight.

Had it been daytime, witnessing the sun obscured would undoubtedly have cast a pall over anyone’s mood.

But with night already fallen, the darkness wasn’t so much a result of the poor weather as it was the natural course of the day, thus preventing it from souring our spirits.

Dragon Brother, for her part, seemed entirely unfazed by such matters.

The outside air felt remarkably fresh.

Dragon Brother narrowed her eyes, taking a deep, almost intoxicated breath. It was evident she was truly delighted.

“Where to?” she asked.

I pondered for a moment. “How about we sit for a while at a coffee shop?”

Upon hearing this, Dragon Brother pouted. “You’re so incredibly dull.”

I had merely offered a suggestion, feeling no particular attachment to the idea myself, so I nodded and resumed my thoughts.

Having been confined to a hospital bed for two days, she naturally yearned to explore somewhere.

However, a coffee shop, where one simply ordered a drink and chatted, was clearly not to Dragon Brother’s liking.

This city, unfortunately, was too small, offering little in the way of entertainment. Typically, residents would gather to sing at KTVs or feast at restaurants. Yet, Dragon Brother had just been discharged; such activities were unsuitable. Singing karaoke in a patient’s gown? What would she sing? ‘The Blooming Life’?

Dragon Brother continued to pout, her messy little head bowed, awaiting my brilliant suggestion.

A gentle breeze swept past, lightly stirring her hair.

Still, I deliberated.

A cyber cafe was out of the question for me. The air would be thick with cigarette smoke, and Dragon Brother would undoubtedly light up while gaming.

While I didn’t truly mind her smoking, for someone who loved cigarettes, even a fresh dose of smoke after a craving had been satisfied could trigger the urge for another. I wasn’t keen on taking her to a cyber cafe, especially right after her discharge. Smoking felt profoundly wrong.

Taking a stroll through the nearby park, however, seemed rather cheap.

After all, Dragon Brother had just left the hospital. In the past, we would have gone out for a celebratory meal and drinks to welcome her back.

Yet, Dragon Brother didn’t seem to care about the destination. Simply being outside appeared to satisfy her.

Another gust of wind blew.

Dragon Brother lifted her head, dangling her feet, and gazed at the clouds in the sky.

Suddenly, I recalled the neighboring city, where a new amusement park had recently opened.

Three months prior, I had traveled there. From the car window, I watched the Ferris wheel towering high, wishing I had a girlfriend to bring along. I’d promised myself I’d take her there.

At the very top of the Ferris wheel, with the entire city spread beneath your feet, it would be incredibly romantic.

But Dragon Brother wasn’t my girlfriend. Despite the affection I harbored for her, I had no idea how she truly felt about me.

Moreover, a persistent hurdle remained in my heart, one I couldn’t quite overcome.

At that moment, Dragon Brother was still squinting at the clouds, breathing in the fresh air beyond the hospital walls.

Watching her idly swing her feet, I decided to ask anyway.

“Dragon Brother, want to go to an amusement park?”

Dragon Brother instantly lifted her head, staring at me in a daze.

“An amusement park?” she echoed.

Dragon Brother was clearly intrigued. However, she had never been to one, having only seen glimpses on television.

Truth be told, I hadn’t either. When I sat in that car, looking at the towering Ferris wheel, it had merely been a fleeting thought.

Dragon Brother’s eyes widened, filled with an eager curiosity.

Looking at her, I realized that I, too, truly wanted to ride that Ferris wheel just once.

Yet, riding a Ferris wheel with a friend felt strange, and riding it alone would only emphasize loneliness.

Dragon Brother, though looking at me, was still lost in thought. I prompted, “Do you want to go?”

She nodded her small head.

After a moment, she said, “But we don’t have an amusement park here, do we?”

I smiled. “Not here. We’d have to leave the city.”

Dragon Brother’s expression began to show signs of internal struggle.

After a long pause, she cautiously looked up at me. “Then… we’ll go?”

This time, Dragon Brother seemed rather embarrassed.

I had covered all her hospital expenses this time. Thinking back, that rascal had certainly fleeced me more than once.

I chuckled, reaching for my phone. “Then we shall go.”

The amusement park was in the next city, so we’d definitely need a car to get there. I took out my phone and started sending messages.

Dragon Brother sat in her wheelchair, tilting her head to watch me. “Who are you messaging?” she asked.

I smiled. “You’ll know when they arrive.”

The person agreed, but it would take some time for them to get here. So, I pushed Dragon Brother to explore the nearby area first.

Near the large hospital was a middle school, and beside the middle school was a park. I pushed Dragon Brother there and stopped at a long bench.

I bought two bottles of iced red tea from a nearby convenience store, handed one to Dragon Brother, and then sat idly on the bench, lost in thought.

The sky had already begun to grow dim when we left the hospital. The last vestiges of light on the horizon struggled, faintly glowing, while the park’s streetlights had already flickered on.

“It’s so cool,” Dragon Brother murmured softly beside me.

I turned my head.

Dragon Brother held the iced red tea with both hands, sitting in her wheelchair, the IV pole beside her. Seeing me look back, she offered a gentle smile.

Ever since she had transformed into a woman, her eyelashes had grown long, fluttering like delicate little fans. Now, she smiled sweetly, resembling a docile cat.

My heart inexplicably skipped a beat again.

With an impassive face, I twisted open my bottle cap, gazing at the distant street. “Yes, it’s quite cool,” I affirmed.
