What he had seen until now had been nothing more than child’s play. Seeing how Lee Ah-seong treated Tae Seol, Ha-jin could roughly imagine what kind of life he had endured.
Last night had already seemed harsh, but that had probably been restrained a little because Chae Woo-seok was present. Or perhaps it was because of what happened yesterday and the conversation he had with Woo-seok.
“I don’t have any such ambitions…”
Tae Seol, seemingly used to this situation, simply picked up the crumpled receipt from the floor. His composed attitude only served to irritate Lee Ah-seong further, without him even realizing it.
“Then why didn’t you go today? Aren’t you part of this family? I’m not even telling you to earn money, just go and do what you’re good at. Is that so hard?”
“What I’m good at” was obvious. Laundry, cleaning, bathing, things like that.
“I wasn’t told…”
Tae Seol’s gaze briefly turned toward Ha-jin. The meaning was clear: Ha-jin hadn’t told him, so he couldn’t follow.
“Sigh… You can’t even manage a kid younger than you. Get out.”
Ha-jin couldn’t understand the situation. Before leaving, he had spoken to Tae Seol as well. It wasn’t that he expected him to come along, but he had at least suggested it to clear up yesterday’s misunderstanding and asked if he wanted to join. Tae Seol had only said one thing then,
“No.”
That meant Tae Seol already knew about the volunteer work. But Ha-jin couldn’t call him out on lying here. In no way would it help him.
It would only worsen his relationship with Tae Seol, and there was no guarantee Lee Ah-seong would believe him anyway. And if he did, that would be even worse, he would likely tear Tae Seol apart.
So he kept his mouth shut.
“I’ll make sure to tell you properly next time.”
He said this toward Tae Seol’s back as he left.
“Haa… Not a single proper child in this house. And you, too, behave yourself. I’m only letting it slide this once because it’s your first time.”
“…Of course, Father.”
How absurd. In this household, the only people who could land a blow on him would be Lee Ah-seong… or Chae Il-joo. Yet it had been Tae Seol instead. There was something about that man. Ha-jin’s long experience warned him.

“Ah-boo!”
What was this creature?
As Ha-jin was about to leave the main building after a short conversation with Lee Ah-seong, he spotted something strange. Was it a doll…? It was speaking?
“Boo!”
The creature in the maid’s arms stretched its hands toward Ha-jin. Its small, delicate fingers looked like toys. It was a baby. A pale, round-eyed baby with a bib that suited it perfectly.
It had been so long since he had seen such a small human being that Ha-jin unconsciously walked closer.
“Whose baby is this?”
“Uh…”
The baby in the maid’s arms waved its hands as Ha-jin approached. Unable to guess what it wanted, he held out a finger, and the tiny hand suddenly grabbed it tightly.
‘Cute.
Even though it was drooling, it was still cute. He felt the urge to kiss its plump cheeks.
“Let go of it!”
Lost in the baby, he didn’t notice someone approaching. With a shout in his ear, Ha-jin’s body was shoved aside. The force nearly made him fall.
“What… are you doing?”
“…Don’t touch my child.”
It was Tae Seol. Without even looking at Ha-jin, he took the baby from the maid’s arms. Ha-jin didn’t notice the sharp look he sent toward the maid.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was your child. But that was a bit much, wasn’t it? There was no need to shove me like that. You seem to have misunderstood something, I wasn’t the one who told your father about yesterday’s department store incident.”
“So what?”
“…Ha.”
‘What an infuriatingly shameless person.’
Tae Seol looked as if he already knew everything about yesterday, or perhaps simply didn’t care. Ha-jin let out a dry laugh.
“I don’t know what kind of inferiority complex you have toward me, but this will only make things harder for you.”
“…”
“Just live more comfortably. Stop twisting everything you see.”
He could have said harsher things, but he didn’t feel like it. He forced down the emotions tightening in his chest and walked past Tae Seol.
He wasn’t a particularly patient person. Nor was he kind. But wasting energy on unnecessary things wasn’t his style. Tae Seol wasn’t a threat. People who showed their emotions so openly weren’t dangerous.
Like Chae Jae-yi.

“Team Leader Yang?”
“…Yes.”
Yang had worked for the Chae family for over 30 years. He had endured countless hardships. If he were cremated after death, he might as well turn into a pile of relics from how much he had endured.
Because of that endurance, he now held a position where no one in the Chae family could treat him lightly. But lately, his mood had been worsening.
“You ran the washing machine, didn’t you?”
Chae family’s young omega son-in-law, Ha-jin. The young man leaned against the doorway, casually spinning a piece of cloth around his finger.
“No. I personally washed it by hand.”
“Really? That’s strange. I just saw it being taken out of the washing machine.”
He had clearly seen it, so why ask…!
Still, he kept a straight face. He must have seen wrong. There couldn’t be any proof anyway.
“Underwear, of all things, it doesn’t matter how you wash it. It’s not like I’ll wear it for life, right?”
Ha-jin tossed the spinning underwear into the trash.
“Ah. By the way, you didn’t hear this, make sure to see off and welcome the chairman when he leaves and returns home.”
It was an order.
Ha-jin was dumbfounded. This was crossing the line.
“Team Leader, how long have you worked here?”
“Why do you ask? Over 30 years. I’ve been here since before Young Master Woo-seok was born.”
“So roughly… you’re about 70?”
“59! …I am.”
Ha-jin smiled brightly as he closed the distance.
“But you must have had a hard life.”
Then his expression turned cold.
“In all those decades, is this how you worked? Laundry worse than trash, cleaning barely brushing off visible dust… and even ignoring the master’s orders? After all this time, did you start thinking you were part of this family?”
“Family… yes, I suppose so.”
Yang also wasn’t inexperienced. He had seen plenty like this. And he had leverage, everything in this house passed through him. One word from him could easily ruin Ha-jin like Tae Seol.
“Interesting. But what if you found out someone you treated like family wasn’t actually yours? That betrayal must hurt, right?”
Yang’s heart dropped.
Ha-jin smiled at the panic on his face.
“Redo the laundry.”
“…Yes.”
“And pull everything you threw in the trash out and wash it again by hand.”
People don’t change. Threats work best.

“Haah…”
There was a reason Ha-jin had searched the dressing room thoroughly. It wasn’t just to catch a maid’s mistake.
Today was the day he would have s*x with Chae Woo-seok for the first time.
That thought had consumed him all day.
When he woke up, it was the only thing on his mind: s*x.
The feeling lasted all day. At the volunteer site, he wondered what to wear at night. Too formal would be strange; pajamas would feel sloppy. He even stopped by a department store on the way home to buy underwear.
Back home, he dealt with people, took a bath with bath additives, and brushed his teeth three times after sunset. He even considered going to the dentist for scaling, but there wasn’t enough time.
If it weren’t for this cursed household, he would have gone a hundred times.
‘Of course, you don’t need scaling before your first time having s*x.’
